Abandoned Gothic-Style Lutheran Church in Chicago, Illinois

Today we are exploring an abandoned Lutheran church in Chicago, Illinois. The church shut down in 2012, then in 2015 the City of Chicago sued the church owners for failure to keep the property secured and declared the church hazardous to the public.

If people are going to abandon places at least let an architectural and antique salvagers come in and pay to reuse them or sell them. If the owner isn’t going to. So sad to see all these places with so much beauty get ruined by nature.

I was here recently and the current owner is pretty serious about the future of this building. There were workers sealing the broken windows with cinder blocks, and it looked like possible renovations were being done. The other church in the same area of Chicago, which is German Catholic, is in much worse condition as far as decay. However, the stained glass is in better condition and it is so ornate and beautiful.

Those METAL CROSSES! They are beautiful, and how sad that there they sit! it would be really hard for me to go into a place like this, and not want to recover some of these items, if even just to give them away…

Beautiful church so sad people are destroying it, the stain glass and woodwork is gorgeous and I don't know why the city doesn't salvage what's left of the windows, doors and woodwork.

If the windows had not been vandalized the interior of the churc would still be pristine. However once you start letting in cold in the winter, heat in the summer, rain, snow, wind etc then you get the paint peeling off the walls and the chipped plaster all over the floor.

There was this one house that was a junkie house and one day it was raided bc someone explored it snd called the cops, it was in Elgin IL

Congregation left community due to criminality in area. Once gone, slowly no one attends church n able to support financially. Democrats leadership ruins.
