Many churches are being remade into housing, it depends upon the cost of renovations and if Rome is willing to sell. I would turn it into a charnel house.

The statue at the back at 8:30 is of St Therese of the Child Jesus because she is holding a crucifix covered with roses. The grotto is a depiction of the Lourdes grotto where Mary appeared to St Bernadette in the south of France.

This has to be a Catholic Church. I was baptized a Catholic & went to a Catholic school grades k thru 8 which would be ages 5 to 13. We called the room in the back (with the doll) the crying room. It was for Moms and Dads with fussy babies and small children. Mother Mary in the front of the church would be crowned by a student (always female) with a crown of flowers in the month of May. It was an honor to be chosen. As a child the confessional scared the heck out of me:) I really loved the tour but at the same time find it to be so sad that this beautiful church has been abandoned. Thanks for showing us around.

John Di Francisco sometimes people are not “religious” as in “believing in an organized religion” but can be “spiritual”. Believing in a higher power. To me that is Jesus Christ. I always got the feeling Lesley was spiritual 🤷🏻‍♀️ I do love his respect as well ❤️

That cave part of the church was amazing. I'm pretty sure it's called a grotto - they are commonly found near or around old catholic churches or church site. The text reads something like 'This grotto is in memory 'Ms Alix Cobbe' I can't make out the middle text - I think it's the dates of the memorial - but I think the end says "pray for her" Beautiful find, jealous!

The grotto is with the statue of our Lady of Lourdes. The large white basin is a baptismal font. The back room is the sacristy where the vestments were kept and the priest would put on the vestments before mass. The small boxes on the table were used to hold a chalice & paten. Looks like someone took them. The music you was looking at is Latin Gregorian chant for the mass and that piece of music was for solo voice only, not piano. The side altar you was looking with the statue above is St Therese, The Little Flower, Not Mary. The center of the altar you called a vault with the chalice carved on front is a tabernacle. Usually held a ciborium with communion hosts, but sometimes could hold a flagon of consecrated wine. Also kept inside was a lunette holding a large host kept there for reservation of the sacrament and used for benediction. It looks like some few years ago all the main windows were replaced with moderne cheap colored glass. Perhaps the original windows were destroyed during the war. Its a shame the originals are gone. They must have been just as beautiful as the ones over the sanctuary.

The stained glass windows are protected by clear sheets of Plexiglass, a necessary addition after vandals did their damage. fran Obrien the older Gods and Goddesses never abandoned the Earth and its inhabitants either. Its people who so often twist the beauty honest Faith can provide to suit their own agendas....like money, power, and wars. A beautiful glade in the forest is the most stunning of Temples, and always will be. I mean no disrespect to any Faith here, just making an observation from nearly 70 years of observation, interfaith study and dialogue, and history of the changes that occur within all Religions. 🖤🇨🇦

The world is in such bad shape because people have abandoned god? Haha, yeah no... The world is the most peaceful it's ever been, which coincides with secularization. Where is the world in a mess? Places WITHOUT secularization! 'God' requires ignorant, gullible and desperate people to exist. It's no wonder he slowly fades with the build up of knowledge and peace.

Sean: Christianity has been declining for over 100 years and the results speak for themselves...World War l, World War ll, Korean War, Vietnam war, the cold war, wars in the middle east, deaths of millions of people at the hands of dictators like Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, etc., the suffering under communism, ISIS and their public beheadings (including children) and burning people alive in cage, Boko Horam and their kidnapping of children, the MANY terrorist attacks like Sept.11 in New York and all across Europe, the violent no go zones in Europe because of immigration, Sweden is the rape capital of the world, etc. I don't know how you can't see the anger and hatred in this world.....or maybe you're just used to it. We need Christian values like loving your neighbor and doing good to those who persecute you...doing good to others even when you get nothing in return, putting God first, your neighbor second, and yourself last. The Ten Commandments need to be taught once again....forbidding killing and stealing and no adultery, etc....rules to live by. If everyone followed Christian principles, we would have total peace and much less suffering in this world.

That room in the back of the church is where the Priest and alter boys put on their robes, and the safe held the Sunday donation collections. That Confessional is really unique. The room where the children sit is called a cry room here in the States & a parent would be in the room with their child. Speakers are piped in so all could hear the Mass. The choir loft is beautiful. The pews on the altar would be for the altar boys, deacons & in some churches the Priests as well. That TV is a hoot! Looks like it's from the late 50's maybe. Great video! Thank you!!

NEW NORM TRUMP it isn't just belgium that people have fallen away. There is a very good minister here on youtube named Amir Tsarfati, a messianic Jew. He said one time in a sermon that if the rapture happened today, nobody in europe would probably realize it until they watched the evening world news. Having many relatives in europe i can attest to this being very true. It's funny that places like china and india and certain places in the middle east are having an explosion in faith at great and dangerous risks for them, and everywhere else in the world we are throwing away what they are dying for. Here in the u.s. atheism among people 30 or younger is at a rate of about 70 percent. As our older generations die off, america will become like these nations of europe... it is foretold.

That's not quite accurate. Young Americans are turning away from organized religion. That doesn't mean they aren't spiritual or don't believe in God. Considering how organized religion has aligned itself with conservative politicians, it isn't surprising.

I think this young man would make a very good preacher, his voice is so calming and he has a profound interest 21st century civilization and its decaying end. He is honest about what he finds and seems to respect where he goes. He has taken us all across European country sides on youtube showing us forsaken homes we never knew could exist. Fascinating buildings and architectures. I enjoy going along for the explore. The only reason that I do watch these videos is because he is so well mannered, engaging and vibrant.

Bros of Decay, I Love your vids, appreciate all your work and am so happy for the growth in your channel. That being said, because we care what becomes of you, you would make me and many other mother hen types much happier if you would take more precautions, such as wearing (hard hats) of some sort, like a construction hard hat, which are made for that kind of environment. Carry particle masks with you, at the very least, rubber gloves, heavier gloves, extra pair of socks and shoes, eye protection and a complete first aid kit. To be the best example of the work you do, it is a must to protect yourselves. I can suggest a couple things for first aid that are natural helps. One is (cayenne pepper) because if someone is bleeding and you pour some cayenne on the wound, it (will clot the blood right away and stop the bleeding). Another is (raw honey) because if you have a cut, chapped lips, scrapes and you apply some raw honey to it and cover with a bandage, because of the substance in it called Royal jelly (it is fed to the Queen Bee), it (rapidly closes up wounds and heals them fast). Some people carry cordizone capsules for bee stings and either swallow it or pour it on the bite, but if not try (mud) If you get a bee sting or other bug bites, even if you aren't allergic, go immediately to the nearest clean looking (soil, mix with some clean water) and apply the mix to the sting. It (will draw the poison out) right away. I have used it on many hornet stings in my life. Works fast. I have many helpful, tried and true remedies that are easily accessible and inexpensive, so if you want more ideas, please let me know. Alrighty? Love your channel and hope to see you for many healthy years.

MerAngel12121 while cayenne pepper will stop a wound from bleeding, pure alum will do the same with less burning. Pure natural honey is a great antiseptic to prevent infection from entering a scrape or wound, as is pure turpentine. What is a swear word other than a sound that man has imbued with power? Fuck isn't a shameful word and people shouldn't be shamed for making a sound that does not harm anyone. It wasn't a word at all when your bible was written, however what was written in that tome was instruction not to worship in gathered in buildings. So, which is the "sin", to say "fuck" in a cathedral or to worship in one?

The child stress is specifically for baptisms. I am especially touched by the fact that the flowers on either side of the altar have faded. It’s as though they have walked right out and left everything is is. I would love to live there. It would make a beautiful, stunning home.

Absolutely beautiful! Was the keyboard for that huge pipe organ under it? So lovely. Leslie, around 2:45 you were wondering what was in the vault. Many churches had vessels for the wine, the water and the Host (the priest would mix the wine with water before he blessed it so there would be enough for everyone who wanted some) as well as candle sticks made from gold or silver. They would store them in a vault, more lately, so that the vessels would not be stolen. That may be what was in that vault. Around 3:06 is a Christening Dress. When a baby would be blessed, Christened or Baptized and "washed of Original Sin" as some religions believe. I have a Christening dress that my dad wore (as a baby), I wore it, and all my children wore when we were Christened as infants. It is 81 years old and I keep it in an acid free box, so it stays nice. I was raised Catholic, but other Christian religions believe in Infant Baptism, too. 7:47 is a Baptismal Font. Where they would use water to Baptize the babies. Great job! Warmly, Mary in Chicago, USA

The small room would be called the vestry. Where the priest would put on his vestments or robes. The safe may well have been used for the collection money before deposit into a bank. In the USA,, it's not unusual for an unused church to be sold for a dollar to a charity or the City for use as a common space for art exhibitions, meetings, concerts etc. Maintaining these old churches can take a lot of money and a City might not want to commit tax dollars to that. Of course, once a church is deconsecrated it becomes simply another building. Good or bad, many in the USA have been refurbished into homes and even nightclubs. Looks like you may have been reared Catholic: be careful, as we say in the USA "Once a Catholic always a Catholic"!!!

i think this might be the right translations for the candle alter : pray for the candle. Lord, let this candle that I burn be "light" so that you hide me in my difficulties and my decisions. Be it "fire" so that you burn roof selfishness, pride and impurity. May it be "flame" for you to warm my heart and defeat me. Lord, I can not stay long in your Church: May this candle prolong prayer to me in the activities of this day. Amen.

If you did some research you would find that there is proof that God does exist, unfortunately it's not out in mainstream where people can see it easily. There is a group that is called Genesis in answers, you can find them on KZbin. They show all the artifacts and stuff that proves the Bible to be true and shows how God is really real. I think if you look them up, it could help you to learn a little bit about who God is. I absolutely loved watching this video looking at that beautiful Church. it is such a shame that it is falling down it makes me really sad to see such beautiful buildings decaying.

That's your belief, but this proof is not existent except if you decide this out of blind faith. He is respectful of these places, but using his politeness as an opportunity to force your beliefs upon him is not being respectful to him. In Europe due to the millennia of Wars by Religion has turned us away from what you have chosen to believe. There are far too many churches that are modern, including this one. In Europe there are thousands of these, so Christians frequently abandon these in favour of preserving the larger structures that hold historical significance. You have to remember that 100 years old is not old in Europe, and if you come to Europe you will see that there are plenty of examples of amazing religious buildings, some of these are still open with services.

I read somewhere that this church was built in 1876 and eventually ordered by the mayor to close only in December 2012. So it's kinda freshly abandoned. It seems like the church structure was deteriorating yet the local government chose to ignore its pleas to repair until the collapse of the ceiling of the aisle in early December proved to be too dangerous. Hope the town, city council can change their mind or some rich person can help to restore and maintain it. What a waste for all the beautiful architecture, artefacts and history to be left to rot and disintegrate. Great video btw!

The marble faucet and basin is actually a christening bowl for baptisms, and whatever looks like a faucet it’s actually for a candle. And it generally holds what they called the Easter candle. It would contain holy water or anyone could dip your fingers in and give them selves a blessing. But baptism is a huge sacrament in the Catholic Church.

Guys...I know its a new world, and people change...but I still find it sad, that all these magnificent churches, and bell towers, and pipe organs are abandoned and silent. Its like people feel there is no mystery to life, or death, anymore. Myths and belief systems used to prop us up while we worked and toiled for our daily bread. Sunday was a special day, and to meet there, and hear a great sermon ...in a magnificent cathedral ...made you feel that there is something greater than yourself, something more to this world than just working and dying and then that's it....I think just getting together person to person was beneficial for people who were lonely, or ill. It used to give us hope...and being good...made you feel ..good !..lol. Good Vid. matt
