Part 1 of 2
So we decided to head back to the town where the old general store was located; because last time I'd spotted an old abandoned hotel.
Well we parked up nearby and went and tried the door...it was open! In we went, chattering away, until we heard others chattering as well.
We realised we weren't alone - surveying the old reception we quickly discerned that something was going to happen to the hotel - either renovation....or worse, modernisation or demolition.
I had the gut feeling we wouldn't get permission to film, and so made the decision to sneak around and document it under their noses.
We had several close calls, and at one point I looked over a stairwell and saw two women chatting in the closed courtyard; one looked up directly into my face...I quickly hunched down, lol - but somehow, amazingly she hadn't seen me! Although we made so much unintentional noise while filming (dropping the tripod, opening rusty shutters, creaking on ancient floorboards, etc) ...that the others must have thought the place haunted.
Although the hotel was emptied of furnishings upon it's closure, it gives a unique glimpse of two different eras of design - and even more unique...without vandalism or graffiti.
We hope you enjoy the tour!

Without a doubt, one of the most beautiful videos I have ever seen! I love the way you fade in the people in the video so that we can imagine what it would have been like when the hotel was in use. Awesome! 1st class video making.

I also wanted to add that the people who drool (including myself) over these videos, collect antiques and are obsessed with the past, are old souls that have been here before. That's why it feels so right! Another sign of an old soul is we aren't so much on the social side. We've dealt with enough people before! Can't wait for pt 2!!!

You have to admit that the woodwork in these old buildings was FANTASTIC. Now a days it's plaster and fiberglass. That is original wood !
@LadyCoyKoi
@LadyCoyKoi 7 жыл бұрын
Those wooden details do last long. I have a 1970s furniture piece of a wine storage unit and it has taken so many beatings and it still stands on its three legs. Meanwhile, the modern stuff had been replaced and broken over the years. Original wood aren't used any more. I would gladly pay the extra to have an antique furniture that I can pass on for generations than have planned obsolete items that only last two years, possibly 5 years at best.

I am a classical liberal, a guy in his late 30's, I strongly believe I would have enjoyed an environment like this. So minimal yet so elegant. Nothing about it screams modern and thats fine with me. I love your videos really good production quality. I am impressed with your work lastly I feel they would be foolish to ruin this building without saving much of the decore.

I'm with you Oddie, I hope it's reconstruction and not deconstruction. This hotel craftsmanship is still intact after sitting for 76 yrs, unbelievable. It's beautifully crafted and detailed and in perfectly good condition still. Glad to see there's no graffiti or vandalism for once. I'm most surprised that the hotel sat vacant for so many years, I wonder why. It's truly a wonderful looking hotel, everything original from first built. I sincerely hope the plans are to bring it back to life and open it for business again. 76 yrs is a very long time to let something this lovely sit for that long. Thanks again Oddie :-)

I have NO exact knowledge of this place; I googled it, and it was all in a different language. German I think. Also, you said it was intact after 76 years, I suspect it was actually built much earlier than that! May I propose reasons for it's abandonment? WW2 would be a big one! Who knows, it might have been taken over by the German soldiers during the war. Then after the war, replacement hotels were built with more modern amenities! Folks back in the day didn't seem as waxing nostalgic the way we do today! I suspect business went down after the war, causing the owners to shut the doors---at least to the general public---possibly family members of owners still lived in it as a place to live. I saw that flat screen TV also.
@ObsoleteOddity

If you read the 3rd text slide, I write that the original structure dates probably from the 18th Century. The flat screen TV is for the architects who are working on the building now. Thanks for your input Michael.

I had to Google Gottfried Keller, I thought it was the name of the hotel: Gottfried Keller was a Swiss poet and writer of German literature. Best known for his novel Green Henry, he became one of the most popular narrators of literary realism in the late 19th century. By the way, great editing with the addition of the black and white images, superb.

Yes Gottfried Keller was a man of many talents, he was also an accomplished artist; his paintings are very valuable now. There are soooo many hotels in Switzerland with the same name....so he really got his name 'up in lights'! Thank you friend, glad you liked that little extra 'ambience'

This German/Austrian/German Swiss hotel is in excellent unrestored condition. Not only are the floors, stairways and wood clad walls in great shape, but the ceilings are fantastic, with no water stains or damage, that indicates that the roof of this building is also in good condition. The videography is well done and I love the interjection of vintage film that depicts what kind of activity was done in each of the areas being filmed. Please keep your viewers informed about the future of this hotel. I would like to know if it will be restored. I hope they do! Thanks again for the wonderful tour!

Again loved the angle laid flooring and vintage fixtures. I had the same thought about whether they thought that they had "guest that hadn't checked out yet".Loved the condition of the ceramic covered heater(?). Lovely shape. I too, hope they are there for renovation rather demolition. I guess modernization would at least keep it standing but would seem such a waste. Love these tours as I never got to travel and see such. Oh, my--what a magnificent video! I was transported by the moody lighting (loved seeing some of the rooms in partial darkness) and the images of the past superimposed over the interiors! I think I must've visited there in the "past" because it seemed/felt so "familiar." Gorgeous woodwork, beautiful tile, amazing rooms and suites, just lovely. Please keep us posted and keep up your marvelous surreptitious urban archaeology! Love you guys! 😻👏🏼❤️💜

Everything is in great shape! The plaster and woodwork look amazing for how old they are. Fixtures, tile and cabinets look pristine. Just need to be cleaned up. And the fact that you can still walk around speaks to the structural integrity. Very cool. Hope they don't change it too much. Oh, and your editing is top notch for an old carpenter like me. Overlays are perfect. Really good job producing this.

Wow! U do fantastic work! I would watch one of your explores any time! U are very talented. I watch a lot of Urban Exploration and I wish everyone did them like you do. I particularly like how you show us a room and then follow it up with some stills. Some explorers do that but not many. I also really enjoyed the "ghosts" in this video. Haha. Whenever I look at anything antique (a room, an object) I visualize in my mind what it would have looked like when it was being used way back in the day. Having it literally played out for me just adds to the nostalgia of it all. Thank u! In addition, you are very explanatory before, during and after the video. I love that! It is absolutely wonderful to not have to guess at what is going on or have to try and figure out what it is that we are looking at exactly. I feel you can never give too much information. I just don't understand how a building like this could just sit for so long without being used for anything! That completely blows my mind because in the US that would probably never happen! When do u think this building was last used? The 50's or 60's maybe?

Glad you liked the added ghostly workers, I guess I added them because while I was there I was imagining the place with the staff going about their daily routine. Yes I don't want to viewer to feel hurried, and the stills give the brain time to 'digest' the details; so I'm happy you like my style :) I would say the building closed in the 1940's.

Whenever I'm at a place of unoccupied antiquity I see ,in my mind's eye, a scene of when that place was once vibrant and bustling with people. I get a perfect little movie in my brain. At abondoned graveyards I can picture the grieving standing around the grave in whatever period clothing the headstone reveals. At an abandoned graveyard deep in the woods off a red clay dirt road there is a grave site with about 9 little baby graves with lambs upon the stones and then finally the parents. Not one of their children survived past infancy. I took photos there. I was not " ghost hunting" as is the fad today, but merely visiting and learning history. I wish I could find it again. For You Tube. I think if any energy is around these places you visit and film they know you come in peace and not to have a chat with them. You are just sharing their history. No exploitation. ☮

ibrake4butterflies Very interesting - did anything appear on the photos that was there when you took them?
@ibrake4butterflies733

No.I used B&W film and developed it myself. I only printed a contact sheet and only printed a couple of the negatives. I didn't feel any of the energy I feel in old structures. Whenever I go to an old cemetary I feel very peaceful. In old buildings though it feels different. Do you all get those different feelings as you enter an old abandoned place? We have an old plantation here where slaves once toiled away. It's a state historical site. Kingsley Plantation in north east Florida. There are two houses where the owners lived and a row of little houses made from crushed shells where all the slaves slept. Only parts of the walls remain. It was so heavy. I left some tiny purple wild Violet's in one of the slave's home. I couldn't shake that heavy vibe for a few days. Does that happen to you?
@ObsoleteOddity
@ObsoleteOddity 8 жыл бұрын
ibrake4butterflies Yes I agree, all of the cemeteries I have visited were peaceful; (I've even slept overnight in one with my ex in Australia) because although the human form is placed & remembered there, the deceased usually has no connection to a cemetery. Although I have heard of some cemeteries that have powerful negative entities & energies. Houses made from crushed shells, how interesting; I've never heard of shells as building material before. Yes, like you - I have experienced very heavy energies in certain places; and the more sensitive you are at tuning into whoever or whatever is there (or an 'echo' of what has transpired there) ...the more you will pick up on these energies.
