Today we get back to our 1955 Chevy NEWmadd. This car has been sitting in the garage for a couple of weeks while I was waiting on parts. Figured it was time to dive in. First things first, we tackle the horrible hood and roof dents.
At some point in her life the hood flew back and damaged the rare 1 off roof. The hook was pretty badly crumpled as well. Luckily I have no skills but jumped right into the straitening out the sheetmetal. Honestly it came out pretty good! Who needs a professional PDR guy...
With the body pretty much laser straight.... I pull out the front seat and carpet to inspect the rust. We have a little work ahead of us, but i think we can do a pretty good job repairing the floors while keeping as much original metal as possible.

My first car was a 57 in these same colors, bought at age 14 in 1967 for $200.00 I earned busing tables all summer! I learned to wrench on that car, so thanks for the memories! P.S. I guess I’m one of those “old timers” you were referring to when you looked at the hole in floor where a shifter might have been! Remember, we had little or no money and not a lot of tools! So creativeness was the rule of the day! Lol

Yea Robert, know what you mean. My first 57 was at 16 yrs old in 66. I paid 125 dollars for it. Learned a lot trying to get a car running so I wouldn’t have to ride the bus any more. Oh, yea. I’m one of the old timers that cut the hole in the floor for a floor shift. Dan is a wrenching machine. 👊😮👍

@@stomper2582 my first car was a 4 door 1968 Toyota corona I bought off my Pop's for $50.00 buck's. My Pop's bought it for a parts car. It was really nice looking car for the 1990s when the mini truck era was in. I made that little car look older than it was. I chop down a 1951 Buick grill with chrome BMW bumber guards on the front bumber to give it the 50 Buick grill look with Apple ton spot light's smoke tented window's with the stock hub caps with three prong knock offs white wall tires.

Dan, for a while there I thought you were going to do a MMA number on that hood. That would have been a Painful dent removal instead of a Paintless one! Now I'm so gladd( not SoMadd) you're looking at that jewel of a 55 to be a complete and tight car.A great winter work driver, for sure.

Yeah, those Tri5’s were so cheap in 1967, That I bought a 56 wagon for $50.00 from a friend. When I had 2 cars parked outside, my dad said pick one cuz no way we had enough room to park them. I stuck with 57! lol 14 year old thinking! One is good, 2 are better! lol Even in 1967, there was a great love for Tri5’s and were the main way a young guy could get a car cheap! The used car lots were full of them as well as 58’s, and 59’s….

I mentioned all the junk yards were full of these cars too! I bought a power glide for $50.00 and spent all winter putting it in my 57! I remember the driveway was cold! I had to learn the hard way about using a spline to line the tranny cuz you sure could bolt a power glide on without one! lol my dad had pity on me and had my car towed to transmission shop and in an hour, dropped and lined tranny and got me on the road! lol. When I turned 16, I traded that 57 in for a baby blue 67 Ford Mustang! I was in high cotton! I went to Vietnam in early 1972 and my dad sold that car for me……mistake! lol

Three on tree, when the bushings wore out, a floor shift was the easiest repair. The repair parts were not available. The floor shifters I put in did not look like that. I prided myself on how small of a hole I could get away with. No more than a 2" diameter hole. Ah, the good ole days.

I had the exact same "hood incident" happen to my 56 210 wagon in 1985-ish. The main hood latch failed on mine at about 60mph. Drove the bird trough the roof panel. Trust me, it's a thing! All I can say is thank god for the wraparound windshield design and good communication with the co-pilot. For me it was a sunroof (to delete the bird perforations), a new hood and real hood pins forever more. Many Many Many fond memories in that car.

They are trained in the sequence of dent removal; I always did what seemed right, but these gurus work differently than a layman. For the roof dent, try either suction cups or the glue on kits that you mentioned - leave the headliner alone.

I'm glad that you're paranoid about this car but still willing to cut into it. As a collision tech it was a little hard to watch in the beginning but you actually did pretty well with a junk hood. As an old grey beard I can verify that the hole in the floor for the shifter is as good as it gets with a tin snips, the lack of good tools was very real compared to now. Yes, it needs floors and a full floor wouldn't be a waste of time and money if done properly. As said previously the car isn't a perfect survivor so as long as it's done well solid new floors will pay dividends.

Dan let the haters hate. I'm willing to bet they can't do any of what you can do. You care about this car and it shows. I get your way of thinking and for those that don't they can go pound sand.

It does my heart good to watch you and Dani out in the garage laughing and enjoying yourselves, working on cars. Love your videos and content, always watching for the next one! I would much rather watchyou work in this environment than watch some "person" in a warehouse garage magically putting stuff together skipping all the crucial steps that diy guys like us would need to see to accomplish the same tasks. Your stuff is real, there's isn't.
