We're getting going on the 1955 Chevy Nomad. I've been putting off starting on the floor pans for a while now. The car was both so good and bad at the same time. The first cut in the deepest and I just had to get started.
I decided to patch the floors instead of putting in a full floor. It ended up being A LOT OF WORK. By the time I'm done all the braces and floor pans will be in tip top shape!
Fire and sparks where my biggest fear. So far so good.

i am old school 69yo. i approve of everything you are doing to these old cars. back in the day we couldn't get parts like today. we went to the junk yards to find the best parts we could get. if you lived in the rustbelt like me . the parts were just as bad as what we started with. thumbs up for DD Speedshop

I'm just past started on replacing my full floor plan on my '56 210 HT, and my favorite part of this video was you taking the time to explain how all the panels fit together, even though I'm not doing it that way. It helped me better understand how the floor is engineered & fastened to the frame - much appreciated!

My first rust repair was a 64-65 Chev PU entry steps that were rotted away. The old man got me a piece of flat steel and I bent and cut and bolted in a new step. I think I was about 12 then. I was pretty proud of it!! Haha.

Dan, Thanks for showing us how it is done. I had a '57 ragtop back in 1977 that needed a full floor replacement. I found a 150 2 door sedan on its' side and salvaged the entire floor for that project. Never got time to put it together as had to sell it to move to a new job. Strange that the gents who bought the car didn't want the use the salvaged floorboard, so it got tossed out. I especially enjoyed seeing the underside as you carefully explained the good, the bad, and the ugliness of fitting all those panels and underfloor stiffeners together. Beautifull looking Nomad in a very cool color. Keep up the great work. Jim

I did my 57 Ford Retractable in hand made pieces, but I did find full rockers and did patch the inners. I did it all with oxyacetylene welding, So I can appreciate the effort and with mig welding it would have made life much easier and better if I had one then.

When I do floors now, I started painting inside of the braces and rockers. I also drill 3/16-1/4" drains on all it. Where the brace holds sand and rots the floor/brace I use a small hole saw so it has room to dump the garbage out. It seems to work pretty well. Not criticism, just sharing what works for me. I love this Nomad btw. Awesome car

Great journey, Dan! 55 is sure a sharp looking Chevy....... In 1966 I had a 56 Ford Sunliner convertible that had a rotted back floor. When it was taken in for its six month sticker, it was rejected. The mechanic told me I had two things going against me, I was a teenager, and I had a car! A friend and I jury rigged a corrugated piece of steel, formed a hump for the drive shaft using a telephone pole. When taken back for reinspection, the mechanic actually jumped on the floor to check it.

Before pulling the body off the chassis and cutting the entire floor out of my 1940 DeSoto, I welded in temporary beams - one crossways to the B-pillars (its a 4 door) and one each across the door openings from pillar to pillar and to the cross beam. The body has stayed straight, the glass is all intact and the doors still close and latch. I also ended up welding lifting brackets to the temp beams across the rear door. opening

Could you take a full floor pan and cut it in two down the length of the trans tunnel? That way you could still get each half into the car through the doors and not have to disassemble the front of the car. I would think it would be easier to use only two pieces for the entire floor, and weld one seam down the center instead of using 6 (or more) and having to weld all four sides of each piece.
@BearGrils55
