There looks loads of stuff that can be still be smashed up though! Those windows and sinks/toilets. My new wave Urbex smash group would totally trash all of that crap in a few visits. Wish we were in the States or wherever, we would soon bust this!

malthof200 I don't think you would "beat the shit" out of us. Three or four of us are martial arts experts which we use to break up stuff with kicks and the like. It would only be used as self defence, but you would end up in hospital for a long time. That aside, we don't post threats against people. We are not of low IQ like some meatheads on You Tube who can't write proper English. We only break up inanimate objects and buildings in fairly well defined conditions.

My Relatives worked there in the 1970's, They did tell me about the reason it closed. The reason was because of the decline of the people that were coming. There was enough money to support the place for another few more years but the owners decided they should just get it over and done with. Another reason why it was declining was because of the one or two murders that happened. No one found the killer but there was a woman who died in one of the empty rooms by being stabbed in the neck and wrists were slit, she was in the room that no one had booked when the people came in the found her stuffed under a bed after they could feel a lump and smell something rotting. Another death was outside by around some bushes ( They did not tell me much about this one. ) Woman was found bashed and died later on. This hotel was thought to be haunted at some point by the woman who was stabbed in the room.

Thank you! These videos provide way better info and history than this video ever did sadly. Josh could have made an amazing video by adding additional history. Glad to be able to go watch videos that do provide that. Hope Josh will take note to make his videos better. I'd love to keep watching his videos, but with lack of historical knowledge, kind of is a let down.

I remember coming to Grossinger's in the early 70s - by that time you could see fewer families and more and more older tourists. It was the inspiration for the resort in Dirty Dancing (along with Brown's Hotel) - but since both were shut down by the time the movie was filmed they actually filmed it in Virginia and North Carolina. Now most of these Catskill resorts are abandoned or gone (Brown's Hotel burned down 4 years ago).

Josh i do worry about you in regards to the asbestos i noticed you have a beard and when i'm working around asbestos it's heavily recommended that i shave the day before so when i wear a mask its completely sealed everywhere. Asbestos is such a small and fine substance and you would be surprised at what it can get through.
@ExploringWithJosh
@ExploringWithJosh 7 жыл бұрын
+Djanio yes i wear my mask so tight it leaves a mark on my nose. My beard is very thin. Thank you! I feel i should be ok.
@LakeNipissing
@LakeNipissing 7 жыл бұрын
A good test to do is block the exhalation check valve and breathe out. If the mask does not inflate a bit when it pressurizes, but blows out somewhere at the perimeter, you have a poor fit / seal. Similarly, if you block both of the filter cartridges with your palms, the mask should collapse, and you should get no air at all when you inhale. always good to do this quick test each time, since the exhalation check valve could fail, and allow unfiltered air in, or facial hair growth does not allow for a proper seal. Stay safe!!
@nicolaxoxo1
@nicolaxoxo1 7 жыл бұрын
take care with the mold as well. Can enter thru any orifice including eyes, etc and for those sensitized any skin contact can cause a flare. I am extremely sensitized to mold so alas my urban exploration days are over but enjoy living vicariously thru vids like yours. Thanks and stay safe. Youth and health are not to be wasted.
@jonathanstump1639
@jonathanstump1639 7 жыл бұрын
really this is not a good indicator. The only way to make sure that you have a good seal in a mask is to do a qualitative fit test. If you do not, you might think that you have a good seal and it will collapse, but it does not mean that the mask is working correctly.
@sportsterrider37
@sportsterrider37 7 жыл бұрын
Pretty sure it has been shown for gas masks it has shown that a beard, at least within limit, does not hurt the seal. A mask like that should be no different.

Another amazing location, Josh. Kind of reminds me of some of the locations in the Poconos series Dan Bell was doing a while back. Regarding the pool... don't think it is 20 feet deep. :) More like 10 to 12 feet deep. Olympic diving wells with 10 meter platforms are usually only 18 feet deep.

a bunch of places opened up around NYC catering to the highly marginalized jewish community, and as more and more started popping up they had to keep expanding and trying to one up other resorts to get people to continue coming to theirs, and around this time, airfare was becoming cheaper and cheaper for the average american to afford, and so they started going elsewhere, which sent all the resorts into rapid decline, thus forcing them to close. :)

The people who own the property are very, VERY strict about not ever allowing people on the premises. I've contacted them before about even using the grounds for filming outside the buildings and they flat out said no in various ways. The only way to get inside Grossinger's now is to break in. Not that it's hard to do since almost all the windows of the buildings are destroyed (easiest entry is on the back side of the Jenny G tower). Security hounds the area, though, when the golf course is open, so you have to be EXTREMELY careful.

@miss_mer 7 жыл бұрын
it's not illiteracy, it's called dialect. I found it odd at first but it's how a lot of americans talk in different parts. not illiterate, again. You obviously are illiterate with not knowing what that word means. Has nothing to do with how one speaks.

He dropped out of school early. He has no teacher or professors to correct his English. His vocabulary is very limited to basic high school English. Don't expect too much from him, and then get butt hurt about it. You don't like it, you can always watch other explorers since he's not competent enough to live up to your expectations.

Mer Ault So basically dialect means lacking good vocabulary? English is not my main language.

Please look up the definition of dialect. Some people speak the way they do in America purely because they were raised that way in the area they were born. Same as any other country. Every country has dialects and different accents.

Thanks for sharing. I used to live there in 1986-88 after it was closed. My Dad was the managing director of the first company that tried to renovate it(Servico). They failed as did all the others who tried the same. I started a website about it in 2004 and it's still active today with pictures of how it was before the scumbag vandals got to it. Even though some of your descriptions are wrong, it's still cool to see it. It's been a while.

The place is Grossinger's, one of the most popular of the Catskill mountain resorts with The Pines and the Concord matching it in size. With the concord demolished and The Pines half Demolished, Grossinger's is currently the biggest Catskills Resort left standing. Even with the damage it has sustained over the years due to the elements its still a popular spot along with whats left of the Pines. Good exploration, i do recommend the Pines next man both great places. I got alot more info on the place if you wish to know more.
