I've watched this guy for a long time. He is very respectful everywhere he goes and is careful not to reveal location or names as best he can. He admits to not having full grasp of all languages and may not know the history of all the things he sees. Just because there may appear to be some kind of caretaker doesn't mean the family did not abandon it. Maybe its caught up in some kind of tax, legal or estate squabble and someone is assigned to keep watch over properties from time to time. He seems to welcome any information commenters have. I enjoy when people post information they have on the history. I will keep watching from America. We don't have anything like the things he finds. :)

I pray someone of some care is maintaining it as it seems very little dust is around any of this home. The dark cherry furniture and the massive detail in some of their furniture u don't get to see that very much so much of the past that is able to videoed have so many hallowed halls and rooms it was wonderful to see how in some small way, of how they lived thru their furnishings . Hello I’m from Italy. You were wrong, Giovanni is the first name and Ellena is the surname! It’s a man named Giovanni and not a woman as you say. XD Professor Giovanni Ellena found a famous scientific high school in a big city of northern Italy in the 60s, his wife name was Mariuccia (don’t know if a professor too but I doubt) and they have a son director in the same institute named Ludovico (probably the owner of the house now).

Very interesting, Ester thank you for the knowledge. Such a beautiful house. I wonder if he knows wood is termite infested in that beautiful wood. It will spread till it infests the entire structure. Can cover big pieces in sealed plastic and it will kill them. Such interesting lives as well.

Have you been exploring together with Jordy in this house, and have you been there last summer? - I wish you all the best and a lot more inspiring and exciting Urbex tours like this one. - I can always feel your passion for the buildings, you are exploring and see your great respect for the interiors and the probable history of the location. - You will always belong to my most favourite explorers. - Stay safe, and take care, dear friend! @kris scarpetti Explainable though. Dust is actually human shedded skin. Notice how the house has all the windows completely closed. There's no one there, no open window to let the dust from outside in. So the only thing that could produce dust is cloth, and it's quite minimal. Also, living far away from a city helps in that. I should know, I've lived in a city and in a town. By far, the house in a town had 1/6th of the dust of the city. And the city had that weird black petroleum-like one. (I lived in a metropolitan area that is only cars... and no public transport ... thank you US modern grid layout). Also, I noticed how dust collects differently when I worked in a story. The part of the store that guests went to was dust laden. The backstock rooms that we rarely went into, was clean all the time. Ridiculous. (By the way, I wouldn't get this mansion if i were in the market looking for stuff. Not as pretty as one would expect).

Very, very cool but it also seems like you walk past many doors. We would still like to see them, even if they are boring and a quick glimpse. You also didn't fully shut the upstairs door. Now the pigeons will truly be everywhere. I adore your love and passion for the little stuff. Keep up the great work. I'm super jealous. Why isn't this stuff in a museum. That horse carriage 😍❤

I believe the cart was for religious processions. You would put a statue of the saint and pull it around town on the saint's day.

I believe you are right, I was having a similar thought about the cart, the reason for it being so colourful and beautiful. Maybe the annual tour of the town by the Virgin Mary.

These decorated carts were a speciality of Sicily - called 'caretto'. They were used just as carts - but why did this family have one, up in northern Italy? Specifically dated 1941. Doesn't tie-in with any family dates that I have found (see my post above)

Somebody is definitely looking after the place. The ceiling in the entrance hall has collapsed a bit, but there is no mess on the floor. So someone has cleared it.

Where did this stuff about a couple of university lecturers come from, Lesley? Another great video - but, as many people are commenting, this place doesn't seem to fit that kind of academic background. The truth is recorded in those framed 'diplomas' left behind - this was the recent home of a titled family, with an old family business supporting them. In Italy, on formal documents, your name is written as surname/first name - so Ellena is the family name, it's not a woman's christian name. The first diploma you found was the award of a qualification in Civil Engineering (the 'Laurea di Dollore') from the Royal Polytechnic in Turin to Geovanni Ellena, on 25th October 1939. With the authority of the last King of Italy (the 5 foot tall Vittoria Emannuelle III), it records that he was born on 10th January 1915 (so he was 24 years old when he qualified); and was the son of Guiseppe Ellena. A little Google research reveals that his grandfather, also called Giovanni Ellena, also a trained engineer, had founded a business in Genoa - 'S.A. Ceramica Ligure' - in 1882. They made ceramic floor & wall tiles, and bricks. But hey! Wow! - the second 'diploma' we see is actually the award of a Knighthood ('Cavaliere') to Giovanni's father, Signor Guiseppe Ellena, in 1956, along with his insignia, from the President of the new Republic. Guiseppe was born on 25 November 1896 in Ravenna, and served in the military; so he was 60 when he was honoured.

The clocks have all been stopped just before (5 mins +/-) 2 o'clock. Someone maybe died at that hour or the time they left for good. Interesting!

Bravo!! That was outstanding, very different than the usual abandoned this or that videos. I have spent a lot of time traveling around Italy doing my own thing at my own pace. I have always admired the Italian minimalist design, yet they pull it off so romantically.
