Love watchin you guys, this is the second time watching this! Tip: If you suspect a vacuum leak around the carb or hoses, use your propane torch. Turn the valve on and walk the tip around the hose or base of the carb. The leak will draw in the propane and the engine idle will pick up and steady out. Now you know where to look for the leak. :)

Chrysler had right hand threads on the lugs on the one side because it was thought to help reduce the risk of the lug nuts coming loose, since they would have to work against the way the wheel was turning. They ditched this sometime in the early 70s.

Left hand threads were a big thing on most makers (Olds and Cadillac and Pontiac did it) in the 30's 40's and 50's but I had no idea anyone was still at it all the way into the 70's...
@brianhdueck3372
@brianhdueck3372 4 жыл бұрын
actually the GMs listed had left thread into the 60’s... not that it matters but just saying it was more common practice than often realized. It got tricky sometimes when front brake drums got interchanged during a brake job. Yes I have run into that.

What ya'll didn't know about these old Mopars is that the pull chain was an available option back then! Those old starters loved 'em! Seriously, what an amazing engine. The body probably can't be saved, but that motor will certainly live on somehow/somewhere. Hat's off to both of you! Wish I could pop the top of a few cold ones to celebrate! Cheers!

What up JYD and TH! Super cool project this one! Cool tip: Look at the end of the lug stud at 6:11 in the video. The drivers side has an L. The pass side should have an R. I went through the exact same thing on a 59 Cadillac coupe Deville I bought 15 years ago. I was green and well and had no idea of the lug studs and threads being a different direction. I used pry bars, torque wrenches, extensions, I even bought a compressor and air impact to get them off. Like this car it was super rusty from Kansas. This was where I grew into big boy toys partly lol. Finally an old timer was over at my house looking at a 59 Ford F1 I was selling and we got to talking. He told me the same thing. I was able to get the wheels off that day after weeks of banging my head on the wall with it. Its so cool you guys are able to do this. I'm working on the same dream right now with my Cadillacs. Its just hard to find time for editing and I record myself so I am learning how to incorporate the actual work in the video. It'd be so cool for you guys to check my few videos out. I know I need a lot of improvement with material and stuff but I'm always doing similar projects like yours. Maybe we could collaborate some time? I live in NM and know where there are hundreds of RUST FREE jewels out here in the SW. YOU GUYS WOULD LOSE YOUR Sugar Honey Iced Tea! I promise. Plus NM has some of the best wilderness in the US. Lemme know guys. Keep up the good work 👌

Nothing runs better after sitting for long periods of time than Mopars. I have no idea why. My mom had an '86 Ramcharger 360 Qjet and you could let it sit for a year or longer and you could walk up to it, no new battery or jump pack, and it would crank and fire on ancient gas every time. Ran fine. Had no parasitic drain so it didn't kill batteries when it sat. The thing was immortal. This Plymouth just proves my point.

I've got an MGB with center lock wire wheels. The knock offs tighten clockwise on one side and tighten counter clockwise on the other side. You're warned against towing the car in reverse for an extended amount of time because the knock offs will loosen and fall off. It's obvious you don't think too highly of Mopar, but you've got to admit, that engine was engineered pretty well. Regards, Tom

Good job guys! The reverse lug nuts are a common thing. The trucking industry used to run reverse lugs on one side for the fear of loosening going down the road. I've been a trucker since 99 and I haven't seen them in the last several years.

For those old brake drums I always just apply some penetrating oil to the center hub and then whack with the biggest soft-blow hammer I can find, around the edges of the drum TOWARDS the car. I hit one side then the other and work may way around and eventually it breaks loose but you can keep hitting it one side then the other and wobble it back and forth until it is loose enough to pull the rest of the way off. Works way better than a pry bar because prying in one location about the axis puts everything in a bind. Always worked for me. Don't be afraid to really whack it as hard as you can.

For next time, there's a REALLY easy way to get stuck drums off. Take a drill and drill out the back of the pin that holds the shoes to the backing plate. Sometimes, you can even just take a punch and punch it through the backing plate. With the shoes not held to the backing plate, everything just falls off loosely.
@ThunderHead289

I have a 68 Charger and I knew that the driver side wheel studs were left hand thread. I went to take the passenger front wheel off with an impact and broke the chrome lug nut clean off. I turned the next one backwards and it came right off. It turns out someone had done a brake job and put the rotors back on it on the wrong sides. They put the calipers on the wrong sides as well so the bleeders were on the bottom. That was some fine brake work I tell you!!! And yes, left handed threads on the left side of the car will help to resist loosening lug nuts. But it turned out to not be as helpful as Chrysler thought and was discontinued after the '70 model year.

I imagine the shoes are glued with rust to the drums, but what I found always worked was a large punch, between the stud on the wheel mount surface, and hammer it good. An old trucker trick. Then heat if its stubborn.

For whatever reason, giving stuck on brake drums hits with a hammer right in between the lug studs has the best effect in my experience.
