Hey house lovers and explorers!
This upload I take you through another 2 homes. The first being built in 1960 and has a blend of both vintage eras of the 50`s and 60`s. Retro kitchen/Bathroom and living room all reminders of the emphasis on style and entertaining. Added real estate pics give more depth once again.
The second home is one of the most quirky ones I have filmed and thankfully there are some rreal estate pics to showcase just how much of a 70`s time warp this place was.
It was a 1920`s transitional style bungalow that had additions and alterations to create an upstairs living area along with a granny or in law flat adapted downstairs. A real fun home that has now been demolished also.
Hope you all enjoy the tours, cheers for watching :-)

it's just so sad. The homes built in the 50's and 60's were labours of love by people who lived through WW2 and really appreciated having a safe, solid, comfortable home for their family. My dad kept our family home in Melbourne immaculately for nearly 60 yrs until he had to sell it and go into care. People lived in it for a couple of yrs and then it was sold to a huge conglomerate, demolished and now is being built what looks like a huge block of units. heartbreaking. He passed before this happened so he hasn't had to see what they did to his beloved home. Thank you so much for documenting these homes. The pink bathroom is divine. And the house is in great condition. Criminal to demolish it, imo. The 2nd house, did you take note of the amazing Art Deco brick wall on the backyard shed? Looks original .

I'm in the US and I watch a lot of urbex of abandoned homes. I find it so interesting to see the difference in the homes. My ex with whom I am still good friends, was born and raised in Brisbane. Listening to you is like hearing him lol. He once told me there were very few abandoned homes in Australia bc they demoed them pretty quickly. I watch a guy who does what you do in America. Some of the houses he goes in are from 1750 until early 1900s. And so many have everything left behind. I find it so very sad.

Interesting! I had a "discussion" with an man not long ago who was deriding Americans for tearing things down and not fixing them and revering them as they did in Australia where they never tore old homes down! When I told him there was a channel I watched that turned his statement on its head, he demanded to know where all this demolition of old homes was going on. He practically had a stroke when I told him Adelaide - turns out that's where he lives! He wasn't happy when I asked him where he thought the vacant land came from for all the new construction and endless blocks of units going up everywhere and pointing out that he surely would have noticed if all that land had always been vacant. Sadly, he didn't take the question well. Nor, I noticed, did he ever ask the name of this channel where he could view it for himself. Just an interesting juxtaposition of views between "everything gets demoed" and "nothing gets demoed".

The last house was like peeling an onion…so many layers of different wall coverings. It’s always interesting to see the real estate photos. It would be so nice if a family saw those photos and were able to buy the home before a money hungry developer got their hands on the home and destroyed it. 😢 Paul, thanks for filming .

Just subscribed. I am in the US & grew up in what we'd call a 1960 ranch home. Fast forward to the present, I was lucky enough to find a very similar home to purchase. Huge, pre energy-crisis windows. A "stone" fireplace wall, just crying for a sunburst clock (and yes, I have one). Also the ever-so-modern stovetop built into the counter & the oven in the wall, and they still work well. I am having so much fun decorating, trying to walk the line between nostalgic and tacky!

The Modern Maid brand was born in the 1950s, the offspring of the successful Tennessee Stove and Manufacturing company. Tennessee Stove dates back to 1904 when it was started by J.L. Caldwell in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The company stayed in the family, as L. Harkwick Caldwell took over the position of company president in 1961. In 1965, the company adopted Modern Maid as its name. The progressing years brought expansion to Modern Maid, with the addition of dishwashers and microwave ovens to its product lines. Modern Maid merged with McGraw-Edison in 1972 and then sold to Raytheon in 1979. Eventually, the brand was sold to the Maytag company though production of appliances under the Modern Maid name ceased.

@@mamiebobb4173 I know it's been a couple of months, but I missed this one and am "catching up". I couldn't agree more about that first home. When Paul thought at first that it was a newer range, I was like, "Nope! That baby's original and a dream!" That kitchen! ❤ ETA: Nope, I'm the one who was wrong. That brand name didn't exist until 1965. It had a different name prior. I thought it was original since we had one very like when I was growing up in the 60s and the clock was confusing!

Thanks for these two, Paul! I'm just now seeing it and enjoyed them thoroughly. I can't believe I missed seeing you caught out by the owners! Well, previous owners... I really loved the first house. So many memories brought back and it's obvious that home was well loved. Such a shame as it was still a perfect home for a sweet little family. The second was interesting. Clearly loved since the family returned to say a final farewell. Less my tastes - I lived through the 70s and there were lots of, shall we say, *questionable* home decor choices from that decade and into the next! 😂

Hi Paul. Catching up on some of your older explorations. The first house - “Wonderheat” was a very efficient briquettes heater in the 60’s. They had a factory in Croydon, an eastern suburb of Melbourne. My parents had one and the heat, even turned down low, was stifling! The only drawback was cleaning the ash out every morning.

The stove in the 1960s home was a 1970 stove because of the clock. The analog flip clocks were popular in the early 70s. Beautiful 1960s home. 🥰 I wish my parents would have had the money to buy a home that nice when I was a kid in the 60s. In the US, our builders had no respect for the bourgeois middle class. Oooh the pink bath is a treasure. I also love the vents in the ceiling. Very elegantly done. I am very partial to the driveway design and the garage tile floor in the second house. The 70's into the early 80's is my least favorite period for design. The most fun part of this house is the different periods of wallpaper that is exposed from all the paneling being removed. The blue with roses wallpaper in the bath is very pretty. It is so sweet the family that came back to say goodbye to their home. I feel a bit sad for them. Thank you again Paul for two great home shares. Waving hello from a rainy fall Saturday in Maine.

Thank you so much for keeping all these houses alive in the collective memory, in the history of Australian architecture, while the actual urban mass slaughter of all those beautiful, precious buildings from the past is going on. Do you know if anything is salvaged during the demolitions? Like gorgeous wooden floors or tiles, stunning vintage/old eras bathroom parts, hardware like nice door knobs, vintage mirrors/furniture/cookers in good condition, etc... or are they all crushed by bulldozers and go to the landfill? Sorry about my ignorance, I'm from France and have no idea how it's done in Australia. I'm wondering in each of your amazing videos. The second house was pretty and charming especially from the outside (it was so cool you met the family), and the first house was like a dream home inside out, so healthy, so much light and space, great style and details - why but oh why can't they be saved and sold to people/families who would appreciate them and keep them in good condition? So sad the wall paper was all ripped in the second house but at least there were scraps left on the walls to film. If you took close up still photos of all the wall papers you came across in your exploration, you'd have an awesome album of wall paper samples throughout the last century, maybe a book, very valuable for historical and interior decoration purposes :)

Sorry for the lack of knowledge, why are these houses demolished? What is the reason that forces people to leave them behind?

Oh oh, you got caught in a house, by the owners! Sounds like they were ok with it, I always wonder with urban explorers if this would happen. The second house so looked like a 70's styled decorum.

Loved the first house - but the second looked very dark and rather gloomy to my eyes (maybe because I really dislike 70s decor!). Interestingly, back in the mid 70s - my parents were seriously considering emigrating to Australia as 'ten pound poms' - especially as they were fairly recently married, and mum had attained her State Registered Nurse (SRN) qualification. For whatever reason, my parents never emigrated and myself and my sisters were born and raised here in Blighty 😊 For reasons I know not - watching todays video got me thinking how my life might be today had I been born and raised an Aussie, rather than a Brit, how plausible it would have been that I would have spent my 80s childhood in a home very similar in layout and decor to the properties explored in this video 😊 Anyway, I'm rambling on a bit now - thanks for the great upload and looking forward to next week's adventure 👍

Hi Sarah :-) I think you would have loved being as Aussie :-) But we Aussies have very heavy Brit influence obviously being under the commonwealth :-) Glad you can conjure up all these thoughts while enjoying these videos. Yeah 70`s not my fav but I do love seeing the over the top late 60`s early 70`s decors :-) Cheers for watching

The second living quarters that open to the garage is servants quarters. The butler or live-in housekeeper has there own kitchen and access to the car and rear entrance to the home.

these videos are equally enthralling and so sad, because i know these homes are underappreciated and we have a culture of tearing down to rebuild. but hey. we wouldn't have period architecture to study and enjoy and compare to other periods without the demolition-rebuilding cycle.

Were these, and the other homes you visit, up for sale for a period before they became 'condemned' ? Must have been 'flush' areas when first built, I wonder how the neighbours feel about all the proposed demolition and the effects on the area...

Hello - I am loving all these videos but sad at the same time. These are houses ready for demolition but were "homes" to families so many years ago. I am from the United States and have always loved anything regarding homes either building, decorating, historic and architectural value and of course videos like this. Do you know I've actually shed a tear knowing that memories are becoming rubble. Your commentary is valuable to us so that we can imagine what some of the obscure rooms were used as. I was wondering WHEN these houses are going to be demolished are you allowed take anything from the property? Would you have to contact the owners or the city regarding something like this? I just can't see some of the concrete statues or grill work just going into landfill when it could be showcased in someone's yard. And what about the inside fixtures? I remember the one home you showed us had beautiful "bird vents" high on the wall. I have never seen anything remotely resembling this and just can't think of it as being pitched. I would love to be exploring houses like this with you. I never was into the modern stuff (from the 70's and beyond) but I do love looking at the mid century homes and APPRECIATE the real estate pics to get an idea of what it looked like before. I can go on and on but will stop with a THANK YOU for sharing a part of Australia's gorgeous homes with me.

Hi Veronica :-) Thanks for watching and the great comments. I have seen many really well done salvage processes saving lots of things but I have also seen many things including nice furniture crushed and destroyed the the demolition :-( I have save some things over the years yes but only when I knew they were just about to be crushed instead of saved. I am glad you love all the details and little fixtures of these old homes as do I and I love filming them for you to see :-) Cheers for the support Veronica, more videos still to come :-)
