3:00 Vilter is one of the oldest companies in Milwaukee. I had a friend in school whose grandfather worked for them as an engineer. They made Howitzers during the WWII, and my friend had one in his backyard. It was pieced together from spare parts that were lying around the factory a few years after the war and was about 80% complete. It was an impressive piece of artillery.

In the early 70’s, My family would get ice from that place every summer before a beach trip. It’s located right off of Franklin Rd. The old Hauswald Bread factory was right up the road. The entire area smelt like baked bread in the summertime.

+penniesfromheavon A long time ago, A million years bc The best things in life Were absolutely free. But no one appreciated A sky that was always blue. And no one congratulated A moon that was always new. So it was planned that they would vanish now and them And you must pay before you get them back again. That's what storms were made for And you shouldn't be afraid for Every time it rains it rains Pennies from heaven. Don't you know each cloud contains Pennies from heaven. You'll find yor fortune falling All over town. Be sure that your umbrella is upside down. Trade them for a package of sunshine and flowers. If you want the things you love You must have showers. So when you hear it thunder Don't run under a tree. There'll be pennies from heaven for you and me

Seeing that brick road reminds me of northern WV, Morgantown, in particular. There are still several stretches throughout the town intact, going back to the horse and buggy days. Some have sunken/settled into the earth, and make for a mini roller coaster ride on yr bike or in the car. Marching on them during band practice in high school was a trip. Others have been paved over but peek out when potholes set in. I think some of the earliest downtown area settlements used the same kind of brick, possibly from the same manufacturer, as Baltimore. I've seen similarities throughout WV, and in Cleveland and other Ohio towns, as well as some places in PA, in their building styles and materials.

It's really sad to see baltimore like this.. it was such an important industrial centre for maryland and now look at it. The government just doesn't care about these cities, nor about bringing all the work back.

A remarkable place, Dan. I'm glad you documented it before it's demolished or renovated. My guess is if it's the latter most of the interior will have to be removed. I won't do a spoiler but when you went back down the spiral staircase it reminded me of one of more alarming parts of the 1963 movie "The Haunting"! (It might be in one of the trailers on You Tube.) Many years ago my grandfather delivered blocks of ice in either Chicago or Gary when my family lived in those towns.
