That is one of the finest examples of an Art Deco style home I have ever seen. My heart breaks for Monica. We lost our childhood home when my parents couldn't afford the mortgage payments anymore. We were devastated when it was put up for auction.

I hope someone gets to keep this place, and make it live again. I live in Florida so not many old buildings last here because of the hurricanes. We got one coming at us right now. Florida is constantly being rebuilt. I wish the daughter could have it back. Love how you are always so respectful of these beautiful places. Blessings

I found that house to have a lot of Art Deco influence; the beautiful wallpaper and gorgeous furniture. Again, I feel so bad for the daughter that she lost her family home. It must hurt knowing that she was barred from getting even those minor personal items, let alone some of her parent's mementos.
@Belle8nTN Жыл бұрын
Yes, i agree- and the colors (use of orange/tangerine) , glossy paints, simple style of the stained glass, simple, straight lines in the kitchen many examples seem to point to the art deco era selections (exterior of home also possibly - just a quick view but did not appear “victorian” to me.) such a shame Belgium penalizes inheritances so!
@Belle8nTN Жыл бұрын
It does seem many victorian influences in the furniture - but the bones of the house do seem to point to an art deco era -imo, its sort of a mix of eras really…

What a lovely cozy house. Loved the architecture--fireplace and door arches, coved ceilings, windows, and doors. Also loved the decorating choices. I believe the little metal tool you picked up that had three "pinchers" was used for picking up ice cubes, or pickles or olives. I have never seen nor heard of radiator humidifiers before, but what a great idea. I noticed quite a few pictures that once hung on the walls were missing. So maybe the daughter was allowed to get a few things? But the government not allowing the daughter to at least sell the furniture and household items and the house itself to help pay debts seems ridiculous. What a waste.

Did you notice the faded wall paper where someone took a painting? I will bet that one painting paid for some of the debts. They should allow her to sell the furniture to go toward the mortgage and then do a short sale on the house. You can do that in the states if your bank agrees to it.

You’re right. The house, the staircase, its ceiling and wall decoration, the small toilet and many lamps are Art Déco at its finest. Furnishings apart from the neo-classical mahogany bedroom are eclectic, many pieces so-called period furniture from the 70’s. I would move into the house immediately with my art déco collection.

Completely heartbreaking for the daughter of the house to be denied her family home. The Art Deco style is stunning and at 25:20 the shadow where a picture had been so prominently placed looks to be leaning against the dresser where you are pointing out the small table at 26:50. Hopefully government rules can change and Monica can get back to this place before it is lost forever. That would be a very fitting end to this sad and all too common story. Dear Lesley, in Australia there is no way any electricity company or the government would allow a trickle of free power to any household in need. Also, no bank that took a house would allow it to sit abandoned. They would sell it all as quickly as possible at what ever price they could get. I feel like there is nothing free or cheap in Australia. It is a country of greed in that way 😔Not me though, I love to feed people or pay a bill or two for them when possible ❤
