Don't get me wrong, Johnny Cash was talented and all, but most of his songs from the 60s and 70s have a certain level of twangy cheese that just doesn't hold up today. Also, he didn't learn how to do a truly GREAT cover until the 90s when he branched into pop and alternative stuff. Just my two cents.

Musicians today, before going on national TV, will spend eons backstage, deciding which outfit to wear, how to style their hair and having makeup applied, before they set foot onstage. Johnny Cash was a REAL man. He didn't give a shit. He wouldn't even trim his eyebrows. He was the last of a dying breed. God bless him.
