Five days later and this is still a grower. The more one listens to it, the more the brilliant little touches and nods to past ABBA songs are in there. And OMG, Anni-Frid's voice. Fragile tenderness to amazing power whilst still retaining those velvety tones. It's a brilliant return and these two songs have actually entered the UK singles chart in high positions. For a group that has been basically inactive for forty years and generally has an older fan-base who are less likely to stream their music, that's an amazing achievement. They are much more likely to top the album charts and I'm sure they will.
The more you listen to it, the more it grows on you, the sweeter it sounds.

I am a lifelong ABBA fan from Sydney. I will never forget freezing when I heard SOS on the radio in my Grandmother's room. It changed my life. Being from Australia, I lived through ABBA MANIA. It was So Special. 40 years on, I have never had SUCH a reaction to any song (save for SOS), but this time with "I still have faith in you" it's way bigger. I am weepy, always crying with joy, not believing it's even real. The images of the Australian Tour, the ABBA Plane, all the outpouring of love, and everything about this song is SUCH a trigger. It is a masterpiece and has come at a time when the world SO needs it. I really love your raw reactions to these clips, as well as your technical inputs. We are witnessing a life-changing moment in history & it is really demonstrating the power of REAL music and of this special group in particular. But if your looking for background, feelings that have lasted and evolved over 5 decades between 4 people then this is the song! It's an Anthem of themselves and it's a question to themselves asking if they can still do this. Is it still inside them to project out and be done in a quality manner, or has time erased all that. I'm 29 years old. Being Brazilian, i primarily speak Brazilian Portuguese. I grew up surrounded by LPs. Classics were the soundtrack of my almost 3 decades of life, and ABBA accompanied me in every step of the way. English, lyrics were not the main meaning of a song, but the emotions that transpired in each key, each intonation of each word. ABBA was there to embrace me when I laughed in happiness and cradled me and my tears in those endless nights, until i could fall asleep. Later in life i learned English. And those songs... they just got such a deeper meaning, the multitude of complexity of the human emotions declared in those words I now learned to understand. My first travel outside my home country? Will be next year. I'll see them in England. Because they had faith in us for 40 years. And I have faith in them, even when new spirit has arrive to keep them going, when they are no physically with us anymore. I'll carry their new spirit within me. I forever will.

Hej I still have faith in you Is one of the most beautiful touching/heartwarming and sophisticated ballads I’ve ever heard David 💕 It’s got so much heartfelt sentiments within the lyrics the production the four vocals the whole heart and soul of ABBA is within this beautiful recording ❤️ Frida has got a voice that instantly warms your heart it goes deep into your soul and mind it’s can give you so many emotions joy sadness and happiness and all at the same time 🥰 Unbelievable but like many ABBA songs it’s a true emotional rollercoaster of a banger that keeps your heart pumping and for me the tears flowing 😉 Agnetha and both BBs just add that magical complicated unison and unique ABBA sound ❤️ Without a doubt it’s an absolutely stunning recording the long and emotional awaited song wee have been yearning for and Wow I’ll say that again Wow 🤩 did they deliver 🤩 A wee story 😉 I have been an ABBA fan since 1981 or 82 It’s so long ago now Haha 😛 So I’ve listened to ABBA for over 40 years but sadly in 2016 I lost my mum to cancer it’s was a shocker 😿 but not wanting to damper my comments I’ll be quick 😉 I stopped listening to ABBA as these songs gave me so many reminders and memories involving my mum it’s was her who gave me my first ABBA single who introduced me to ABBA so one way or another I just couldn’t bring my self to listen to ABBA because it became to hard and emotionally wrenching 🖤 But gradually i learned to cope ect 👍 So in 2018 when ABBA announced the new songs I knew I had to listen and would 😉 that September night 2021 was so so emotional like so many who listened to ABBA the first time in so many years it was so special and I had tears or joy but also of happiness I I have to say this is now my fave ABBA somg for many reasons if you get me 👍it instantly makes such an impact on your heart and soul you can feel the rawness and emotions in it’s entirety and for what it stands for Ps I’m back to being my ABBA old self specially since the new songs arrived it’s brought me so much joy happiness in more ways than one ☝️

To those of us that have so many memories of growing up with their music, this is short of a miracle. We had been given no hope of seeing this. I'm grateful maybe they understood the meaning their music had on so many people around the world. Hang in there, I have shed my fair share of tears listening to these first two songs. And we have more to look forward to!!! ☺️

Annifrid sang lead on dozens of amazing songs, but for some reason few of those were released as singles between 1977 and 1980. As a huge fan then and now, I never understand why and felt that she was short-changed! Hopefully ISHFIY will encourage everyone to explore their back catalogue (and then to agree with me! 😉)
@lounolastname44773 жыл бұрын
@Herman Smeets - both Frida and Agnetha had a similar amount of leadvocals on each album. Benny & Bjorn made sure of that and many others were joint vocals. Agnetha’s voice was possibly more suited to the “poppy” numbers and Frida’s voice was adaptable so often used on their more complex creations that weren’t necessarily mainstream pop of that time. That said: ABBA had 9 Number 1 hits in the UK - Frida was lead vocalist on 3 of those and 5 were joint leads.

Agnetha is NOT 'the' lead singer. I get so tired of this myth. True ABBA fans know that they were BOTH lead singers, and equally shared doing lead vocals. Frida's lead songs actually had bigger chart success, so to diminish her impact in the group is just disrespectful

I just needed one day to calm down and react on your emotional video. First of all thank you very much for showing us your emotions. I'm nearly 57 years old and ABBA were the heroes and the comrades of my youth, their music gave me strength and comfort when things didn't go easy. The highlight was seeing them live here in Germany in 1979. When they left the scene I was very sad, but growing older and turnig to other music. But I never forgot them and was very pleased by the revival of their music and also the appreciation they lately became concerning the high quality of their music. So I went very well and happy seeing Mamma Mia The Musical coming and later the movies. Then they announced their return in 2018 with two new songs and I rather went mad. The delays made me feel sad and in the end I doubted if they really will come back, but I never really lost faith in them. Watching the stream last weeks and hearing I still have faith in you made me cry so much immediately. I couldn't stop crying that evening and was very very touched. Watching young people like you in their interest and love for ABBA makes me very happy. Watching your videos about the new songs not just made me happy, again I cried a lot with watching you and I felt and still feel very touched. Thanks again and a lots of love for you from Germany♥️🙏🍀

Abba just has this way of firing up the full range of emotions in you - all at the same time. There aren't many bands that know how to do this, and Abba do this with unmatched precision. The Day Before You Came and Eagle are perfect examples for this and the new songs simply pick up where they left off.

I just watched your reaction again, after discovering you just after ABBA’s relaunch last week. (I must have listened to each new song about 100 times since then, and I have frequently found myself weeping!). Your reaction video made me weep all over again! Annifrid has been my “spirit animal” since I was 12, in 1975. Watching you cry upon hearing just the first few seconds of Annifrid’s voice on ISHFIY just validated not just my last week, but my last 46 years! Like many other people commenting on here, our enduring devotion to these amazing people who are ABBA is not typically understood by others. For me it’s a very deep personal identification with their inherent humble honesty and deep moral integrity as much as their phenomenal, stunning talent; and the way that their songs offer emotional transcendence. Just hearing A&A’s combined voices again in these stunning new songs hits me straight in the solar plexus. You described ABBA’s return as if guardian angels had come back down to give us all a gift of love and compassion and hope. You nailed it! There’s a deep spiritual significance to their reunion- for millions of us, as much as them. Well done!! 💐🙌🥰

Thank you for your honest emotional reaction - it was like watching a mirror. I have been a fan since 1974, and was destroyed hearing this song in the live broadcast. The beauty of those older deeper vocals and the astonishing lyrics and soaring chorus, which reflect their journey as a band and ours as a fan, would have been enough. But, like you, then the avatars suddenly popped up and brought not only the sound but the band members right back in their hey day, broke me. So many emotions that night. How fitting that the video ends with most iconic ever band logo embedded in the cosmos and infinity, right where it belongs. GivenToe, you reacted for all of us - thank you man.

Yippee, another one. I've been banging on about what this song means to me and how unique it is to have a beautiful song that revolves around a long term relationship, as opposed to almost every other song in the history of pop music, which deals with new love. To hear Frida's warm and soulful voice tell the world how amazing it feels to know her closest friends for so long and how wonderful it is to share an entire life with others. It makes me cry, but in a good way.

How wonderful would it be to speak to ourselves, from 40 years, in the future? What story would we have to tell our former self. I have lost friends, in less time, than that. I was just a child, when they were at the top. To be able to have the full ABBA experience, as it was, in the beginning. Just priceless. That they are all still with us, is amazing! Well it’s taken a few days to track this reaction video down, and wow, well where do I begin.......... I am impressed with this song. The beat is slow to start with but then steps up a beat to the chorus, the voices of both females send shivers down my spine, THEY’RE BACK!!! ABBA IS BACK!!! The songs lyrics are absolutely perfect 👌 well thought out , you can feel it in their voices that they refer to their past music, lives, and to their fans. Lyrics like “ the new spirit has arrived” references their return “ passion and courage” their dedication in singing and ability to work together. “ we have a story” “ our story has survived” refers to their past music and new album to which their legacy still lives on. Superb songwriting guys, absolutely superb! Oh My God! What a song! Pity it only reached 5/6 in the top 10 charts. That to me was another number 1 classic by a Superb Group. ❤️👌👍✊️

I've been an ABBA fan since Eurovision 1974, and between then and 1981 got every one of their studio albums, and still have all the vinyl albums. I also have the complete set of Agnetha Faltskog's solo albums in Swedish and two of Frida's solo albums (one in English and the other in Swedish). Having given that intro., I think "I Still Believe in You" may be their finest song. When I heard it yesterday, after getting over the shock of a new song for the first time in 40 years, my reaction was much like yours--speechless. Having had 24 hours to think about it, here's my reaction now: (1) About the song. It is truly marvelous and beautiful. Yes, it starts slowly, with a bittersweet poignancy (matched, I think, by the video), but rises to what I'd describe as a triumphal exclamation of faith. So, the nostalgic melancholy gives way to triumphal hope. The song is executed flawlessly (would you expect any different from ABBA?), Frida's rich contralto voice is at its finest, and the harmonies of the choral parts create a Spectoresque "wall of sound." Bravo! (2) About the video: Yes, this is nostalgia on steroids, and it brought me back to my youth in the 1970s, an era I sorely miss (the music was so much better, and so much more diverse--you didn't have, for example, every female vocalist trying to be a Mariah Carey wannabee). I particularly enjoyed the photos at the beginning when they were youths (Benny's photo, in fact, looks preteen), Agnetha's infectious smile as she faces Frida, the scenes of the two couples apparently dancing, looking still very much in love, Benny, wearing a skin-tight costume preening (in front of a mirror?), and at the end, on the concert stage, Frida briefly embracing Agnetha and Benny--also the scene of Frida waving from a balcony or window like royalty. These images are, for me, a poignant pleasure. (3) I was perplexed about something since seeing it the first time and watching your video. The ending, on the concert stage: from reading Frida's lips, she is singing the words to this song. But the group is obviously young (to state the obvious). Judging from the two women's hairstyles, and that Bjorn is still clean-shaven, it appears circa 1978. I was wondering if this was a song left in some vault for 40 years finally being released now. Your video solved the riddle: they're avatars--something I wouldn't have thought of. I heartily agree with your comment that this is the comeback of the century. I don't entirely agree with your statement that "Don't Shut Me Down" is typically "Abbaesque" and "I Still Have Faith in You" isn't. ABBA"s music had diversity--their songs weren't all the same--and it wasn't just the alternating of lead vocals and that the lyrics always rhymed. Yes, a lot of ABBA's music, especially in the disco years, was upbeat Europop dance music, which is how I'd describe "Don't Shut Me Down" (which I heard after "I Still Have Faith in You"). "I Still Have Faith in You" fits the style of ABBA songs such as "My Love, My Life" (my personal favorite ABBA song),"I Let the Music Speak" (probably my favorite of the songs in which Frida is lead vocal), and poignant songs such as "Our Last Summer" and "Slipping Through My Fingers." Anyway, to ABBA, "thank you so much for the music"! You've touched the souls of millions of people worldwide, and those who have appreciated your talent still you faith in you.
