I remember when I was a child. We listened to ABBA the whole weekends, specially during holidays. My mother cooked while she and my stepfather drank beer (they never got drunk, though), and me and my sister played. I used to look at the vinyl cover with the image of theses two couples and think to myself: wow, who are these magical people? They are beautiful, happy and their music is perfect. They are like gods. Only almost thirty years later I knew about all their issues and sorrows. I guess nobody is perfect and beauty and wealth and fame does not equal happiness. All I know is that ABBA music will always remind me of a time when MY world was happy and perfect. We weren't rich, but few families were as happy as we where through those weekends blessed by ABBA's music... So, "thank you for the music".

Please don't feed the fantasies of the more excitable fans. Divorce is painful but in a unhappy relationship that is only getting worse, it can be relief to both parties. Some fans bizarrely really want to portray Agnetha as being completely subservient. She was sensitive and had anxiety issues but she was also driven and known to have a fierce temper, something she herself admits to. ABBA was made up of four strong characters who could be stubborn and not give way over decisions without a fight. It's frankly insulting to Agnetha to cast her as some weakling who depended on Bjorn. ABBA DID NOT fold with this marriage collapse in late 1978. The group went on for another four full years, creating three more studio albums plus the 1982 singles including many of their finest work. They continued to go on promotion visits abroad plus embarked on concert tours of North America, Europe and Japan in 1979-80. I think it needs reminding too that Agnetha did not stop her singing career after ABBA effectively became inactive. She recorded three solo albums during the 1980's and even travelled to a Los Angeles studio for the last of those. There are some really fanciful notions put about. Nobody 'used' anyone in the two ABBA marriages. All four were successful recording artists before ABBA formed. Benny and Bjorn were the 'in house' producers for Polar as well as songwriters for other artists. The two couples in ABBA became romantically involved a full three years before the group recorded its first official single. They loved each other, they fell out of love. It happens to tens, maybe hundreds of millions of people around the world every year and it doesn't matter whether you are rich, poor or in a famous Pop band or not. It's just life.

I read the ABBA biography , “Bright Lights, Dark Shadows”, the best ABBA biography, imo. I came away with the impression that Bjorn never tried to understand Agnetha. He did not understand her pain in leaving the children so much and her real happiness at being a family at home. Bjorn, to me is the brains and the rudder of ABBA, on the business side. He can be quite ruthless about getting his own way. I think he had his new wife lined up long before Agnetha realized the marriage was over. He is quite strategic and focused when he wants something. Agnetha is a very sensitive soul that needed a great deal of reassurance from her husband at that time. She suffered from paranoia because the world became a scary place for her. As can happen when you feel alone and not supported emotionally . They were not on the same page about giving each other what they each needed. She needed a lot support and he needed to be going forward with his ideas. It was a very difficult situation and, yes, the winner did take it all.

This was a video with remarkable insight, I have always adored Agnetha her voice and her music and always felt an empathy for her however I always thought that there was and underlying tone within something deep going on, then after her mothers suicide I realised that it was very probable that Agnetha had in fact inherited some of her mothers genes containing depression. But considering all that look what she gave the world. The most fantastic amazing voice that has never altered nor faltered in 50 years. What a gift and I am so grateful I was of the generation who was there to experience, ABBA and Agnetha, for of this I am certain, there will never be another, of either.

There is a great difference in working with someone and growing close due to the amount of time together. No free time from that person and added responsibilities rarely last a lifetime. They all had the world in their hands but fame is fickle. Probably any one of us would trade our youths for travel and wanting for not. My Girlfriend stood by me for 15 years. We broke up after our son was born premature as well but died. Instead of crying on her shoulders I got drunk and hated my religion! I lost everything I ever loved. But I came back to God and Jesus Christ. Life has gotten better. But the hurt and black hole in me never heals. I can't take my own life being Catholic. Sometimes what you need is a good friend to stand by you. Mental health issues are like a long time disease but even with it the person next to you helps you through it and make it easier. That is all you can do. I wish I could talk to you and help you. I think Agnetha could have a good friend who was not after her money, beauty but to just comfort her and make sure she was relieved of her stress- I wish I could have been there for her but I never met her.

This took a massive parts of their-lives relationship, and in life you seek different things, to go foreword and be successful. I don t understand . Lena was Linda her nanny and Björn was already busy, seeing Lena during their concerts in America also in 1978 their divorce was in 1978. Christian born in 1977 . Something happened ja, and Björn married Lena 41 years long. It is virtually impossible to deal with a loved one who is mentally ill even if you love them unconditionally, and at some point, no matter how painful, self preservation kicks in and you must leave or be destroyed. The photo that catches attention here is of Agnatha kissing Freda. There are other photos purporting to show the same thing although none have implied, as here, that if such a relationship existed it somehow was determinative in Björn and Agnatha separating. Their lives have all the elements of Greek tragedy. Happily, time and their very real love for each other appears to have allowed both to heal the pain. @@SCARAMOUSXL5 From what I have read Agnatha hates the portrayal you have depicted. She said she is not a “Garbo” hiding at home. In the not too recent past she may have used seclusion to heal her psyche, but she has long since emerged as a competent and successful performer. She has made a number of excellent and successful albums as a solo artist. Her psychological problems have been treated by professionals, and she has appeared with the other three members of the group in cordial, even loving, settings over the decades. She had a successful career both before and after meeting and falling in love with Bjorn (and he with her) as did the other three members of the group. In my opinion Agnatha has emerged as a strong, loving, and brutally honest person who richly deserves the adoration we fans continue to bestow on her as an icon of her craft. And the way she sings and performs all her moving songs bespeak her many virtues. Quite a remarkable person, God love her.

As I was a child ABBA was on the Top of the charts, but I didn't realize much about them... 30 years later I had heard all their music and I saw a documentation of this band. Their melody and lyrics are outstanding. Mentally instability is a not a small issue, which could be solved by medication or psychologist sessions. It is a real burden for the family members, partners and friends. Mostly they are not capable to support the ill person. Especially if the partners are married to young, with no experience in partnership. Sometimes it's better to leave, but I think I would'nt have done this, because she had a child and leaving the ill partner alone is in my opinion not the way of a real man. But the guy seems to be a little to feminine and too introvert to get through personal hardship. Sometimes life is fucking hard, but that's life.

Björn met Lena and started an affair before he and Anna were divorced, he married Lena but 38 years later he leaves her and she also has cancer, now he has married a Danish woman his daughter Linda’s age late 40’s Björn is 80 next year. This commentary is all about Bjorn and a lot of it is so false, Lena had been a friend of Anna’s as well and yet she had an affair with her husband. My respect has gone down for Bjorn after 38 years of marriage with Lena as well that should have been a happy long term relationship it was once, they had two daughters. Now Lena is alone battling her health but she did not respect her friend Agnetha when she started to have a relationship with him. All very sad, Anna wanted to be a mother with less touring Bjorn loved touring and yes their children suffered as Linda stated in an interview recently.

Being a psychiatrist, I can tell a difference b/w Eastern and Western cultures. In West, husband separated/left and divorced his wife when she really needed his love, care and companionship more than ever. Reverse is the case in East. I know one person whose wife is suffering mentally (Schizophrenia and Fragidity) but he sacrificed everything, every emotion and need for her and still happy, contended and caring.
