I started making a list a while back of songs I basically know all the words too and in 20/30 minutes I was up to over 130. I had to just give up cause it was just getting crazy. I've had a musical soul since I was old enough to put my parents records on the player,put on their big koss pro headphones,and put the needle to the vinyl. I always thought it was so cool you could hear the music coming right from the needle. Man,young people don't realize what they are missing out on not getting to have the experience of playing records. From the big sleeve covered in pictures and art work,to watching the record spin,and just the physical involvement you put in. Really helped shape my absolute love for music.

I spent most of the weekends helping our neighbor restore their house. I learned a lot about carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electrical wiring, drywall, etc... Always had rock’n’roll on the radio. Somewhere in the timeframe of 15 to 25 years ago, I met two members of ABBA. They had their YACHT, docked at Bayside in downtown Miami. Was just plain old serendipity of me being in the right place at the right time. I told them how much I enjoy their music and how important it was to my childhood years. Very nice, down to earth people. Remember, for a long time, ABBA was the biggest export from Sweden. There was a time when they made more money for Sweden than Volvo. No joke.

This was an early ABBA song, long before the drama. The song is about the girl who has been a friend wanting you to take a chance on her. This is actually my sister's favorite ABBA song, and I admit, it is a great song. As for the drama, They got through the Agnetha and Bjorn breakup pretty well, but when Benny and Frida broke up, it was meltdown. Of course now, decades later they are on much better terms with each other. Benny, Bjorn, and Frida have done several public appearances with each other in recent years, and Agnetha has even done a couple, but her big concern has more to do with crowd anxiety than any past drama in the band.

Abba is my favorite group and this is my favorite song of theirs. For reaction videos I recommend reacting to what I think are their two best "live concert" performances. Why Did it Have to Be Me (from Abba the Movie - 1977). For that you will know you have the correct video if Frida (the one with darker hair) has a hat on and is in shorts and gold boots. Summer Night City from Abba in Concert (1979). This one has everyone in blue and purple costumes with a big set behind them of stylized triangular looking mountains. Though Abba did not like to tour they were excellent live performers that put it all out there and did it up right when they did it.

Amen, Autotune, background twerkers and every other form of distraction is meant to hide mediocrity. Again, I stand by my mantra, back then, we had music with talent. Now, we have manufactured songs (not music) and all of these timeless artists prove it with every reaction. Keep it up.

I completely agree. Back in the day, you had to have talent because there were no devices to hide your lack of talent.

I remember reading in a book about the launch of MTV how pissed a lot of artist were who were used to just making music and playing music live. How now they had to be pretty and learn dance moves and dress in a flashy enough way to stand out, etc. I wonder how many great artists we've missed out on because they weren't "attractive enough" for the music business.

Natalie 1982 we would have missed out on brother Christopher Cross. All talent and voice without all the fluff facade.

"Four People and Two Chairs!" I love it Jamel! So true! The thing I've always loved about ABBA - thing that always keeps me coming back for more - is their song structure. It seems like every one of their songs has an addictive harmony, a fantastic hook, a great transition from the verse to the chorus and a strong bridge section to tie it all together. Their chord progressions are second to none. Such talented writers vocalists, and musicians.

Yes they have so many other wonderful songs it's just that's what they were mostly known for I think so they get overlooked as That band from Sweden who sang Dancing Queen.

I think one of my favorites from them was....'SOS' (.....Just pronounce the letters....like you learned to do with ELO....). One thing I remember hearing about them....was they also became so HUGE.....because their upbeat music appealed to both young AND older folks. I mean, for example.....you probably weren't gonna' drag your small children & your grandma' to a Black Sabbath concert, right?

Oh had such a crush on Agnetha.
@brt52734 жыл бұрын
Both ladies have such great voices. I love in this one when Agnetha takes the short solos "Cause you know I've got" and "Let me tell you now"....that tone and perfect pitch pierces me to the heart. Not sure if you know but in the 1990s the dark haired lady Frida Lyngstad married Prince Heinrich Ruzzo of Reuss, Count of Plauen, so she officially became Her Serene Highness, Princess Anni-Frid, Countess of Plauen. Quite a life

I always interpreted the lyrics as being an unrequited love with the singer totally in love with someone who isn't interested in her in that way.

i dont think they are saying "try me if all else fails". they are saying "get out of your comfort zone and try someone you might not normally consider". they might surprise you.

"If you're all alone when the pretty birds have flown, honey, I'm still free... take a chance on me." To me, that does sound like she's saying "I'll be here when you've lost interest in the others". As Jamel notes, that isn't something you're likely to hear said these days. Your take, although I don't think that's what they intended when writing the song, is much more acceptable now. (It also has special appeal to me, as I'm presently in such a scenario... but that's another story.)

My first hubs asked me out for three years before I said yes. He had balloons delivered and a singing telegram sing this. It took a bit more. But he and the groomsmen did a kareoke of this at the wedding. (I have issues... It wasn't weird stalking)

Made before Protools. Made by actual pros. I have a whole new respect for even the worst songs from long ago, because they were actually handmade with care by human beings in real time playing instruments and singing without any phony help.
