Proud smother of a helpless 16 year old kid. In this video, can you not see what all the incessant “help” the other smother is giving is doing? It’s stealing a learning opportunity from the child. She has to keep the child helpless for herself to have a life. A smother can raise 100 kids and 99 would be messed up.

Having the honor and getting to share some of your special and fun moments has reminded me to STOP TAKING LIFE SO SERIOUSLY and that I’ll never be too old to have fun and be the silly girl I really inside full of hope and happiness. Like I haven’t listened to fear news in 2 days thanks to you. This weight I’ve had has fallen off and tonight I’m gonna text all my friends I’ve been feeling guilty about ignoring ❤ you are so special and beautiful. gosh why did this make me tear up?? i am autistic and struggle with failure. but the past 3 years i have been working as a caregiver for disabled adults/seniors and they help me understand myself so much. this interaction could have been copied and pasted out of my day at work. my client is quick to quit at things because he cant focus or doesnt want to fail, but his empathy is off the charts. if i explain things through my lens, he can understand/regulate how he feels. its amazing. its more than the rest of the world has done for me, and i love that it is reciprocal help. we also have goofy moments. if he forgets his glasses, i take mine off and pretend bump into stuff. or i pretend to be him with his walker to show walker safety. when he fails at a task and says he cant do it/needs help, hes never more proud/present and aware of his achievement than when i tell him to try again. of course its easier to do it for someone. but this video shows exactly how much us autistic people benefit from routine, firm encouragement, and lots of praise. christine and abbey you are amazing!!!

Good job Abby! I've been cooking eggs for myself and others for over 40 years, and I still don't get them perfectly all the time, and it's ok. You just get more comfortable with it the more you practice. And knowing you can feed yourself and someone else, is the greatest feel-good reward for having completed the task 😊

Just be careful with stardom Ms. Abbey. Stick close to your Mother and family so they can make the correct interpretations of people's needs/actions/messages. Keep a constant loop of communication with them as it appears you are - from someone who dealt with a taste of stardom years ago while be on the spectrum. Congrats on all your accomplishments and David!

I’m going to die someday and then… We’ve all thought it. I’m glad you’re able to say it out loud because families that love their loved ones that we care for fear that fear. It’s our biggest. Not just wanting to know they will be cared for in a loving way but may be able to help care for themselves AND not be hurt or taken advantage of with no advocate. No one can ever love them like we do but it feels like Abbey and David have some very loving family that will be there for both of them. Such a blessing. If only everyone could understand this of all our most vulnerable people in our communities ❤

Very great for frying an egg for the first time. Being an Autistic person myself, I understand how Abbey felt when she felt like she couldn't get the egg "right" for the first attempt. But, it's very important to practice. No one is perfect the first time around and me struggling with perfectionism, I have to remind myself that I don't need to be perfect. But yeah, frying an egg is a pretty big deal.

It took me FOREVER to figure this out. Go Abbey! I sort of devised my own little trick for this. Instead of putting the heat on high at first... I keep it on low -- literally 2 or 3. Then, I crack the eggs into the pan and put a pot lid over it, and turn it on minimum. They slow cook with the yolks solid this way. When they're done I just turn the heat up a bit to make em crispy. Might not work for everyone, but it works for me!
