The Beatles Abbey Road Medley or the long one as it is called,is an amazing collection of unfinished materials from the Beatles.
Its a shame some of these songs were not longer, because they are truly amazing.

Strange version, many differences. This is not the version to listen to, don’t know what it even is. Listen to the original Harry. And, echoing what many others are saying, even though there are pieces of songs, we know this as one majestic creation, and that is the way you should listen and enjoy.

The original version is much better. This one is pared-down. If you think this one's beautiful, listen to the original, with an orchestral symphony behind them on "Once There Was a Way to get Back Homeward". Makes it so much more stunning. Also, at the next to last part, before "Her Majesty's A Pretty Nice Girl", (where it originally was last), includes a blend of the Beatles' harmonies, singing, ..."and, in the end, the love you give is equal to the love you make."

Hey Harri, this is not the original 1969 Abbey Road version. This is a so-called "restored version" put together for the 50th anniversary of the re-release of AR in 2019. It's not the original "medley" that made Side 2 of Abbey Road so famous. Putting "Her Majesty" right after "Mean Mr. Mustard" kills the energy build-up, momentum of the medley, was not the intended and final arrangement back in '69. I've heard this 2019 "restored version" only once, and that was enough for me! 😲 Here's a brief story behind the arrangement of Side 2 you would find interesting. There was a rough draft of side 2 (as there was with every album arrangement), that was played to Paul who told the engineer to get rid of "Her Majesty" and replay it. It flowed much, much better and Paul told him to print it that way, something to that affect. The engineer on his own decided to "save" Her Majesty and put it at the end with a 15 second lead, the album was printed/released that way, and Her Majesty was not even listed on the cover! John said they liked surprising fans with things like that, his backward voice on "I'm So Tired" and other things. So, no matter what anyone else tells you this version was not "supposed to" or "meant to" be this way. If this had been the version on the original release it would not have been impactful or memorable. But Harri, you must take in the whole Side 2 uninterrupted as it all flows together. You can with this video link and please react (or just listen for your own enrichment) to the ORIGINAL 1969 side 2 in this video to compare, played from an actual vinyl LP record and it sounds great for vinyl!... kzbin.info/www/bejne/pnKshqt9o56feas ✌️😎 Oh BTW, we always took Her Majesty as about the Queen herself! They had received their MBEs a few years earlier and since the Beatles kinda poked fun at the establishment we assumed that was Paul having fun with it. Not printing on the cover helped to fuel that rumor! And other thing about this medley version, the tracks don't sound the same as on the original album, so listen to that vinyl Side 2 link end to end, and I think you will understand... kinda like the difference between "Revolution 1", and the energetic "Revolution" single release. 😁👍

The entire Abbey Road album is as close to musical heaven as I expect to ever come and especially this medley! It sounds as beautiful and fresh as it did fifty plus years ago! Their genius lyrics, their humor, their ability to make my ears ascend to a divine place. The songs are out of order here, but otherwise it’s a great reaction. This string of songs is etched into my DNA because I have listened to this album sooooo many times, so it’s a little startling to hear it out of order and not the original polished version. (I guess that’s my neurosis). It’s delightful to watch somebody listen for the first time. Thanks Harri 😍 I just got to the end of this version snd realized it omits one of my favorite Beatles lyric of all times! “And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make” Genius!

@@briandonovan1584 I agree with you about Sergeant Pepper. I rate Abby wrote above it only because AR had 17 songs while SP has 12. So there’s just more to love. Yes Harry, you'll have to go back and listen to the album version on your on. A must. There are so many versions of classic albums these days, it's difficult to figure out what the right one is. I hear many people reacting to versions that would not have been released back in the day. Although this Abbey Road version is not too bad. The order is different and some missing instruments. It lacks the final luster the Beatles final releases always have. And while you're listening to the original final, you might as well listen to the whole of side two - "Because" is so beautiful. Don't miss it. And it's a tragedy you missed the final guitar solo trade offs, and the final "message."

I think I sent this link before Harri: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qXiuiJqwdtSAqtE There's no real original on KZbin, but this is the one that comes the closest. It has some stuff in the intro that shouldn't be there and at the end "Her Majesty" has a longer guitar outro which was kind of cut off on the album, but I'd say it's about 90 to even 95% of the version we all know.

What was missing from this, in the area of Ringo's amazing drumming, is the guitar battle with John, Paul and George trading off with some incredible lead guitar playing spotlighting each. Overall, the medley, although a mix of unfinished songs, works out perfectly as a whole. One tune blends into the next one in a way that makes it sound like one long jaw-dropping composition. The Beatles, as a band, were coming to an end, and they wanted their final album, with all four of the Beatles, to showcase their abilities in an unforgettable way. The song, "The End", summed up the end of their career together very nicely.

You know it was an early cut of the album when you heard “Her Majesty” in between “Mean Mr. Mustard” and “Polythene Pam”. In the final album release, “Her Majesty” is at the end of the album and, in fact, there is about 20 seconds of music silence before it finally plays. I really recommend you listen to the album release because there are some great musical elements missing from this version that you will also very much enjoy. And that last song where you heard Ringo’s drum solo also includes a guitar solo each from Paul, John and George. And, to top it off, Paul writes a short and compelling lyric that got added to the very end of the song. I could write it here but I don’t want to be a spoiler. 😉 Yet another great reaction, Harri. 😁

@19:00 - That sounds different than the original. I like this version, too. More raw and intimate. @23:30 - ( or there abouts...) much extended. @24:00 - Some more extension with a slight variation. re: "The End" Ringo showing composition on the drum kit. The solid bass drum and the simple but creative toms, and then resolving into the most delicious driving beat human ears have ever heard. Not exaggerating. I've been listening to this since it came out.

The version of the medley that you reviewed is the original version. The version on the album is the edited version with Her Majesty removed. Paul asked for it to be taken out of the medley and discarded. But the engineer thought better of it and put it on the end of the tape. When they played the tape back and Her Majesty popped up at the end unexpectedly, they loved it and put it on the album as the last thing you would hear.

Harri, rhis medley was bits and pieces of songs they never completed and stitched together. It is absolutely my favorite song by the Beatles. “Sun King” you can just see and feel the sunrise while listening to it….the rocking end, the bluesy passages, it is amazing pice of work.. You picked a great one to listen to.

I was 13 when I saw the Beatles on Ed Sullivan the first time, Feb. 1964. That night my world totally changed for me as it did for most of my friends. The next day was a new awakening. Through the decade those 4 men never slowed down. A new Beatles release was better than Christmas. They made being a teenager in the 60's the most exciting and magikal time of my life. I could never thank those 4 guys enough for the joy they brought to me and my friends. The Beatles were only the greatest rock band/songwriters ever, they set clothing and hair styles, spiritual philosophies, and political opinions that moved the world towards peace. I'm grateful I lived during their lifetime.

You have to listen to the album version rather than the long version. The End in particular has Ringo’s only drum solo and Paul, George and John play solos in that sequence (x3). Plus the lyrics…and in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make. What a way to say goodbye!

-On album original Her Majesty is at the end and not a part of the medley; more like an afterthought. - Mean Mr. Mustard is a John song. You can tell not so much by the lyrics but by the fact that he’s lead vocalist. That’s how John and Paul worked it. - Everyone knows George had grown into a great guitarist by then and it shows. But listening closely, if one doesn’t hear that Paul is one of the most creative bassists you’ll ever hear or that Ringo’s drumming is extremely underrated, you’ve missed a lot. - The mixing on Carry That Weight is not the original. Piano has been raised and bass/drum fills lessened. - That’s Ringo’s only solo in any Beatles song. - Vocals completely missing on last two songs. You’ve been gypped. GET THE ORIGINAL!!!!!

Parts of this reminds me of many, many years ago when I was listening to stereo versions of older Beatles songs that where originally released in mono, but remixed to stereo. What I didn't know as a small kid was that our headset was broken, I only heard guitars and drums , or voices and base. Things are simply missing in this mix, but everyone else and their brother already told you.

There is another medley sequence at the start of Sgt Pepper where the show starts with the album title track and then Paul says " May I introduce to you the act you have known for all these years' Billy Shears " And Billy turns into Ringo who goes into his song. Only 2 parts to that one but very witty connecting the two openers

Of all their iconic, history-changing albums--Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt. Pepper's, White Album--Abbey Road is the one in which the Beatles' musicianship becomes as incandescent as their songs: George Harrison's guitar solos moves him up from the versatile, tasteful guitarist he previously was to one of the great stylist in his own right of the entire rock era: it's all there, his iconic cascading arpeggios; fluent, fluid trills and bends; the sophisticated Jazzy chord tones ( ninths, augmenteds, etc.), and the mix of Quiet Storm soul, chiming acoustic folk picking, and wailing rock struts; Ringo annihilates the naysayers with his stunningly prescient and funk-friendly, phat groove alternating with Latin and Jazzy swing; Lennon and the Macca--already "Of the Earth" become "The Universe"; but wait, George wasn't satisfied with transcending his journeyman's great playing to become literally, one of The Greats on his guitar, but he also singlehandedly composes two of The Beatles all-time classic songs, which means, of course, two among the greatest songs of the latter half of the twentieth century. There's ...well..."Something" about those Beatles, after all is said and done, "And in the End..." They defined their age; now they are forever Of the Ages.

Brow in this iconic side b medley the greatness of it is to listen to it as a medley, as a whole without stopping it, because even though there are 5 or 6 song titles on the album they are not intended by the Beatles to be listened to as individual songs & for a reason most of them go into the next one without stopping except for 1 or 2 that stop for about a second or two, the amazing thing about this medley is that even though they could have been recorded individually it wouldn't have had nearly the impact when you listen to the whole thing without stopping especially after a few times, I guarantee when the medley is over you'll say wow! and automatically you'll wind up referring to it just as the Abbey Road side-B medley like millions of us have since 1969, which is among many the musical genius/magical way of The Beatles.

I first heard Abbey Road off a bootleg I bought in the Navy in Saudi Arabia and side 2 started with Because and then the Medley and then Here Comes the Sun. This to me is how it should've been done. For one I always thought Because was part of the medley and having Here Comes.... end it was perfect because though it was the end of the Beatles, don't worry the sun will rise again. And yes, this isn't the original version of the medley. You've got to hear the guitar solos.
