Ah, yes! 9w1 here, and all of these are very accurate for me. I have often hated my lack of ambition. I'm a hard worker with a fairly good eye for detail, but I am also a procrastinator who is easily distracted. Spring cleaning during this social distancing is a good example. I work a little then I get tired and want to go do or watch something fun! Keeping up the motivation can be a real challenge. Indecisiveness and passive aggression are also weaknesses of mine. Giving the cold shoulder has unfortunately too often been a go-to response when I get hurt or offended. Keeping up that negativity, however, can be difficult for someone who just wants everyone to be happy and get along 🙂 I have been enjoying your videos, Abbey. Thanks for the entertaining information! 👍

From my own experience as a 9, I think it is not just that sometimes we have difficulty making up our minds, but also sometimes we just don't care. Maybe it depends on if you are more of a P or more of a J on the Myers-Briggs. For me, a lot of times it is not that I can't make up my mind, but that I have made up my mind that I don't care and just want someone else to decide.
@pocasanchez2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I can be like this. When my husband asks what I want to eat I say I don't care bc I legit do not and he does tend to have strong preferences so I leave it to him so that everyone can be happy but then he gets annoyed that he has to pick. However, the few times I have picked, he won't want that. So, I've learned to go along with anything to keep the peace bc as a 9, it is far more important to me that you just eat and be happy than it is for me to pick food.
@denisea.9033 Жыл бұрын
OMG yes 💯 this!!! I genuinely don't care and will just pick anything from wherever anyone else decides .
@warriorcatkitty Жыл бұрын
I can relate to this SO MUCH. I think this is something often overlooked in nines- we can be pretty apathetic to things when we know others feel stronger about it. We don't make the decision becuase we feel it does not matter what is chosen, but others do. And becuase if we chose, when we don't really care about either choice, then someone else may get mad or upset at us for making a decision we literally didn't care about and could have just as easily chosen otherwise, and that can be incrediably frustrating.

Yes, this was quite accurate... yet each 9 has different quirks. This 9 can see everyone's point of view (on this hand,... then on that hand... but then on THAT hand....) and they all seem valid at once. To process all of that information, my brain just goes 'blank'... like it is hard to think. I also often go 'blank' when someone is aggressively yelling/blaming/ letting it all out ... and I just stand there like a 'deer in the headlights' ...having a very hard time just thinking, much less responding. ( 9 wing 1) Another bad habit this 9 has is to 'self flush' myself, because why would someone say something cruel if it wasn't true?! I take their opinion AS truth... and down the toity I swirl... (ug...it takes a while for me to work it all through and come up for air again.) One more... is that every other viewpoint seems SO valid, especially ones with LOTS of self confidence, even if they are dead wrong. Since I have so little self confidence, I am like, "Wow! ... I wonder what THAT is like... to just be CONFIDENT!!!" 😂 9's are not all 'wonderful' inside of our selves (myself) ... we struggle a LOT under the outwardly calm water. ( 'Going to 6' stresses even more...)

E9w8 here i aways saw the 9 sloth as we know the right thing to do but we stay quiet to not start a conflict. Like if someone is being bullied the sin of knowing you should do something and just letting it happen. As 9s tend to see big pictures and multiple perspectives they tend to have a clearer view and still they don’t do anything usually siding with the bully out loud and then quietly comforting the victim. This is my husband. He says yes to other people and neglects his responsibility, I have to do all the tasks he doesn't want to do, he procrastinates then gets upset if I rush him, he won't make decisions but then complains when I'm "bossy" (decisive), we can't talk about anything controversial without him wandering if I hate him, and he won't stick up for himself. Thankfully his strengths outweigh the annoying traits.

@@yeetling901 I have not read that book. But I make lists all the time. When we sit down together and make a list of things to do or a list of groceries he just looks at me and says I don't know why you make me do this. You know I'm not good at this. Why don't you just do it? Now that we have kids I make a list of stuff we need from the grocery store and he will go and buy what I think we need plus whatever he sees at the grocery store that he thinks we need. He's really not bad about overspending anymore. He used to be a really impulsive spender. Early in our relationship when he got his paycheck he would go out and buy all this random stuff he didn't need. I ended up using my paycheck to pay for all the bills. He has less expensive projects now. He spends a lot more time just playing with his kids. He finds cheaper ways to indulge his creativity. He made a sliding barn style door out of scrap wood and sold it the last time he lost his job.

This is all too accurate.. it took me a while to realize I was passive aggressive because I don't resemble the kind in the video... mine comes out as doing something (or not doing something) to exert control rather than using words. The other thing that gets glossed over with 9s is our inaction and difficulty prioritizing. Everything can seem equal in importance (or unimportance lol) and I think that's also why we have trouble doing things that need to be done sometimes. And people can get annoyed if we end up choosing to do the thing that isn't so important.
@MParentWetmore3 жыл бұрын
This so describes me. I'm not snarky to people I just lose the desire to do anything for them and procrastinate. On one hand if something is obviously urgent or needed I do it quickly. Yep #2 is extremely accurate. I would go so far as to stay on a University where my friends are because I don't even know what University I like in the first place and I doubt that I chose the right course at all. The worst thing is that I don't even know what I want in the first place.

I appreciate feeling like I’m not alone especially in the bit about lack of goals and passions. Maybe it just takes a little longer to find ‘em
@МихаилШевелев-м4я3 жыл бұрын
I don't think, that lack of goals is something bad. If you don't need them to feel satisfaction, it's okay. I am related to 6th sort of person and my future plans are just killing me
@jamesfyffe56793 жыл бұрын
I prefer to think of it as “living in the moment”. I’m happy right now, why look any further when so much could happen between now and then? Things change and all that planning will have been wasted time.

"... and you get paid less." *puts head in her hand in frustrated defeat* Holy crap I've had this exact conversation more times than I can count, and not just about work; the *very* rare times that I feel I can make a case for anything I do (or don't do) it usually gets torn apart right in front of me. Most frustrating and exhausting thing ever. That moment hit so close to home it almost made me cry X-D
@ztrglider4 жыл бұрын
Same. That face is exactly the feeling. Every single conversation, I think it through ahead of time and it all makes sense, but then I go and bring it up to the person and it gets ripped to shreds. Do I give in to easily or am I just wrong all the time?

Me, a 9: binge watched this playlist to see if I’m actually a 9 or not. 1 hour later: those 8 videos were cool. Maybe I’m not a 9! Me during the hopes and dreams portion of this video: ... dammit. I’m a 9.

I’m a healthy 9! But I can see the unhealthy stuff when I was younger (20’s) and when I was in a toxic work situation. Also, when I feel overwhelmed or too stressed out. Especially the passive aggressiveness and the not finishing projects. I’m now 46 and more opinionated and assertive, but in a good way! I’m very loving in my opinions and criticisms. My friends have told me they love me because they know I’ll always be honest with them even if it’s something they don’t want to hear.

idk, nines are dreamers and creative by nature. they also aren't always extremely passive and indecisive. this is leaning more towards an average or even unhealthy nine

Yep. I also think the passive-aggresiveness is a bit more common in 9w1s than 9w8s

I asked my mom to take the test and all she told me was: She's at peace and easy to get along with and forgot her number. 😅 Being a five I was really annoyed by this and she asked if I wanted her to take it over, but I figured out she was a nine and my entire life makes sense now!

I have to admit, I'm completely new to the enneagram world. I've recently taken as many tests as I could get my hands on and It's pretty clear, I'm a 9. I have never "agreed" with a video more in my life. I laughed and "woah", I do that, and "omgosh" that's TOTALLY me more than I'd like to admit! Thanks for the video! lol

The one about being taken advantage of at work happens to me a lot because I'd rather do everyone's work than have them explain and make excuses on why I can't lol but also to avoid conflict

yep, I'm 9! Expert at stuffing my feelings away in order not to rock the boat or have conflict!
@epiphany552 жыл бұрын
I actually enjoy a little conflict in debate. That's one of my releases. I hate the thought of 9s being seen as a lame duck in that sense and we should call BS when it's thrown at us. However, seeing how some types can react to being challenged on their BS is probably the sensitivity of the 9. I've often thought the 9's aversion to conflict comes from seeing how other people react to being called out or challenged. We've learned not to rock the boat because a lot of people punish you for rocking their boat, sometimes in very aggressive and irrational ways. I think it's a strategic defence mechanism that you eventually say "it's easier/less stressful to just not deal with your reaction". That's why we make so much effort to choose our words in a way that grants them probably more appeasement/acknowledgement than they often deserve. And I can see how this can play out in situations where stronger words really should be said on the 9's part.

"If you're an enneagram nine, did these resonate with you?" Hm. Well, let's see: 1✔ 2✔ 3✔ 4✔ 5✔ 6✔ 7✔ So, the fact that I feel personally called out means that you've done a killer job! I do all of these things. Seriously. All of them.
