As a kiddo, I accidentally broke one of those old timey thermometers in my mouth. With mercury. My mom called poison control in a panic, and they were like, ‘lol she’s fine as long as she didn’t guzzle like 10 of those.’ As someone that chugged a toxic heavy metal, a detox wasn’t recommended. Stop detoxing all the damn time, people!

Also, fun fact, I’m sick of people talking about pH. Did you know our human bodies like to be/handle an acidic ph much better than alkaline? Yeah it’s true. Our bodies do not like being super alkaline. In fact, in patients on a ventilator, in order to protect the lungs and prevent barotrauma etc, we actually let the patients have more of an acidic blood pH. It’s called “permissive hypercapnia” because our bodies like the acidity better than alkalinity. So there’s a fun fact 💁🏼♀️

Yes ...in ayurveda too it is implied but the times have changed ... with ingesting chemicals in the name of pesticides and in form of other sources we are tending towards acidic nature without even knowing that is why people are doing good on greens these days!!!! But People should be aware of all the science behind. It's upto individual to figure things out
@fraum37253 жыл бұрын
@@rachana777 That's not how it works. The body keeps a certain blood-pH up by itself - otherwise we would die. Greens are good, but not because of some magical pH-stuff. And no, bodys aren't that individualistic when it come to general physiological mechanisms like pH. So please trust science!

Also there was a study done, I think it was decades ago now, that showed you absorb more nutrients from foods you enjoy. So like dieting when it's forcing yourself to eat stuff you don't enjoy won't fuel your body as much as something less "perfectly healthy" that you enjoy.

are we honestly surprised after seeing Julianne Hough's wellness techniques in the Goop doc series?

Abbey, thank you for the disclaimer. I have dealt with different types of ED for a long time and I actually saw this video and unfortunately it really triggered me. My entire day I was questioning what I’ve been eating, feeling so much guilt and started to throw everything away in the garbage, freaking out basically. I have come a long way but I still struggle, it’s a process and a journey. Videos like theirs is what can be so detrimental to those with an ED or a young girl/boy during puberty going through a growth spurt. I could go on and on but really some people will never understand and that’s okay. *EDIT* I was referring to Derek Houghs video as a trigger. Again I really appreciate the disclaimer as it can be something as small as a video that can set someone in the wrong direction for god knows how long.

I agree, Abbey. I also don't believe in "Detoxes," "Cleanses," "Alkalizing"...etc. Regarding the lemon water -- My family practitioner recommended replacing coffee/tea with lemon water every morning in order to limit caffeine consumption (which can affect some of my personal medical issues). She said that many people find the citric acid in the lemon to be energizing (not quite sure on the science behind this). Can you attest to this? Obviously, if this was true, it would have nothing to do with detoxing or alkalization.

This was great! I would love to hear you talk more about pseudo science and moralizing of food in general. The moralizing part really spoke to me. There is so much elitism, privilege, other-ing disguised as purely healthful advice.

I appreciate your review and more realistic standards set. You seem to be very knowledgeable and have excellent things to teach about nutrition and wellness. I'm also glad that at the end, you said some nice things about them. It was hard to hear so many mean things about two good people. I'm sure they feel good about what they are eating and seem to be happy. But I'm glad you're informing people it's not be feasible for everyone.

Oh what in the hell... on a more positive note, I got over previous disordered eating habits by making myself some homemade caramel latte. Used to have thjs very often when playing video games and now I can have it again whenever I'm feeling nostalgic

@@smithmarina970 Oh it's not really a recipe. 😂 You just mealt some sugar in a pan, add equal parts water (or a little more if you prefer less syrupy caramel), bring it up to a boil and let it simmer for 1-2 minutes. Then you let it cool and after that, you can add it to your coffee

Haha I mean I’ve drunk lemon water a few times to help with my bowels not balance and alkalize anything haha but it could be because I drink that then my big mug of tea or black coffee lol. But the combo sure helps if I feel a little bloated but only if I’m having some bathroom issues 😂😂😂😂😂

I like the think that food should be consumed for both body and mind. So sometimes I choose to eat things to be physically healthy, but I also should choose food for my mental and emotional health. And that doesn’t mean that those are mutually exclusive, sometimes foods are healthy for both physical AND mental health. Others are only healthy for my emotional health (so what if I want that piece of cake...). Other times I want to be mindless and just grab something prepared that I know will help me get through the day, or a workout, etc but I don’t choose it with the taste or my enjoyment in mind (although I often do enjoy my food 🤷🏻♀️)
