Carlita Ticconi i think he was comparing number of viewers globally ,plus you dont use one competition to decide such things, Manchester United is a big team in recent years they've not won the premier league but they still have the numbers, the US men team has players playing for big teams in Europe , so they are known worldwide to both men and women who watch football(soccer) so people take interest in the mens team , the MLS is now attracting big names from Europe which means more money , the quality (supply) of women's football is collectively poor compared men's football , its slow , theres no good skills, so they wont get the viewers ,its that simple.

So, they bring up 2016. Can we assume the men made more in 2017 and 2018? They are not run by the same company. The book and the video doesn't address how the teams differ. Women want to play women's soccer. Men have to be paid a lot more just to lose. The men's team have to go all over the world to find players. Its basically supply and demand. If a company overpays women like the failing men, the team would go bankrupt. Is it fair, no. But its a reality no one wants to acknowledge. Now, when it comes to events like the Olympics or a sponsorship from the US, equal pay all the way.

This statement shows an incredible lack of understanding of an economy. There is a demand for sports by society. The money society contributes to sports determines how much the players are compensated. If society doesn't demand sport, there would be no need to pay athletes. Finally if you put a limit on what an athlete could earn, all you would be doing is giving the billionaire even more money. Is that billionaire contributing to the advancement of society? @@semi6544Semi the billionaires shouldn't get it either. I 100 percent get that the demand shown in society for sports exists. Sports also have many other attributes outside of entertainment. Many have learned cooperation, leadership, team work, hard work, confidence, problem solving, and dealing with failure from playing sports. You can't put your preference on everyone. Human beings have decided the worth of athletes, actors, musicians, artists, and entertainers. You may believe the professions of doctors, lawyers, teachers, scientists, and engineers hold more value, but society hasn't reached that conclusion completely. That doesn't suggest they generated more than men. They just compared their maximum revenue year with the lowest revenue year for the men. They fund the men better because they are more opportunity be rewarded with a turn on their investment. Let get real men's soccer is a trillion dollar global with over 200 competitive teams, female soccer is a 100 million sport where only 6 or 7 nations take female soccer seriously. In that context it is just business sense that the men get paid more.

@@JimFortune The men are second rate because they have to compete against 250 countries that have fully professional teams. The female US team only has to compete again 8 or 9 nations that are professional. The dirty little secret is the only reason the female team was successful because the other traditional soccer nations didn't fund or take female soccer seriously. The US women's filled a void and weren't any better than men. The US female are just as bad as the men, but just play a less competitive level of soccer. Men's soccer is actually 3rd sport of America now. The MLS is has the 3rd average attendance of the major sports leagues, has the highest participation rates of all the sports in America and is the number 2 sport for Americans under 35. The problem is the US media who have an agenda against soccer because all the networks have shares in the NBA, NHL, MLB and NFL. Soccer gets nowhere near mainstream coverage the other sports get because the older generation control the media and they don't get soccer because they never saw it on TV. That is why they give far bigger TV contracts to NHL and MLB even though soccer has past them in popularity.

@Delboy0 when this case goes to court, I hope someone talks about all these great points that you brought up... or at least calls you in as an expert witness. I’m not against equal pay in our world. But in sports you cannot justify higher pay if the money is not steadily coming in. Compared to men sports a very small percentage of people care and attend women sporting events. Its not attractive, its like watching Sunday league sports. If they want more money have them create their own soccer federation. Let’s see how long it takes them to go bankrupt with higher wages and only 1 major women soccer tournament every 4 years to bring in income. In comparison, the mens team usually has a competition every year or 3 out of 4 years at worst. Which means more income. Which means HIGHER pay!!! The wolf comparison does not make much sense at all... Although I agree on the discriminatory issue I think this is making the wrong argument ... Men are also payed different and rarely justified amounts of money in soccer and any sports even though they sacrifice same lifetime and often health ... The basic problem -thinking on a free market positive base here - would be to let them play in the same league ... And then let the wolves restore the biotope ... But obviously I think this is a stupid logic, as no man or woman has ever done anything without building on what others did for them and thus any big result is always the result of a group work of society and of basic human cooperation. Thus the really sensible thing would be to reclaim fair pay altogether for all who have participated in this process ... Stop separating sports by gender, only by levels and pay more to the participating lower leagues who help develop the sport and the players. Reduce the ticket prices and pay everyone who makes it a profession an amount he or she or... That allows them to live a good life. And with all those huge amounts of money on the table ... Don't tell me that would cost too much ... that is just a mere question of political will.

The U.S. women’s team should get far more money from sponsorships and endorsements in the U.S. (from companies like Nike, etc), than the U.S. men’s team, because they can push a product, to the barely tapped market worldwide, of women’s soccer. Girls in Yemen, and other places, can have heroes to look up to, and aspire to a goal. No question there. It would, however, be operating from a basis of false equivalence, to expect that the top women’s soccer player in the world, should make as much money _from tournament prize money_ as Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, or Neymar da Silva Santos Júnior. Worldwide, men’s soccer is far more competitive than women’s soccer. The U.S. men’s team has to face _those_ players on the field. The teams that the U.S. women’s team faces, are not as developed. Women’s athletics in the U.S. is far more advanced than women’s athletics in most other countries-if not all countries in the world. The U.S. has a lot of exceptional athletic talent, both male and female. If you want to attract the best U.S. _male_ athletic talent away from the NBA and other sports, the pay needs to be enticing. If you never want the U.S. men’s team to be able to contend with their Brazilian, Argentinian, and etc counterparts, keep their pay the same as the women’s team from small countries, who the U.S. Women’s team, beats handily.

I totally agree that the women’s team has been doing better in competition but if you look at the stats men’s soccer is actually bringing in more money than women’s soccer. Even though the women’s team is winning more games more people watch and respect men’s soccer, which means the men’s team is making more money and means the men get paid more. Not trying to offend anyone that’s just the facts and logic behind it.

@@usfdave10 The numbers she cites are cherry picked -- from the one and only year that the USWNT generated more money than the USMNT. That is a fact. While I totally agree that women should receive more ATTENTION, and be congratulated for their achievements, the money factor is silly. Nobody complains that the Toledo Mudhens players make less money than the New York Yankees players. "But it is the same sport! They do the same job! Why isnt the pay equal?" . . . . well, obviously because the Yankees generate more revenue. This is the same situation the USWNT faces. They are NOT generating as much money as the men. Again, this is a fact, which can be checked by anyone who cares to do so. If you want to change the dynamic, then for goodness sake, get out from behind your keyboard and go buy tickets to a Women's soccer game. THAT is the sort of thing that will change the pay levels for women. Complaining about it on KZbin, however . . . . . Nope . . . not gonna help.

i believe in equal pay for equal work. however, this refers to workers within the same company. if I work for "A", my pay should be comparable to the men of "A", but I can't complain the men of " b" and "c" earn more - they are employed by a different company which might be wealthier and more profitable. I honestly don't believe the women's league draws as much money as men's sports. men's teams have been established longer and have larger followings, so pay will not be equal.

I think Abby was an amazing player in her prime, and is a great example for women. But . . . . I know people are going to jump on this comment but please, keep an open mind and hear me out. If the USWNT are demanding the same pay as the USMNT for taking part in the World Cup, then they should enter the MEN'S tournament and see how well they perform. The fact that the women's game is not as high-paying as the men's game isnt sexism, it is pure and simple supply-demand economics and the sort of "gender-blind meritocracy" that Abby seems to be championing. While I am a big fan of the women's game (Nadeshiko Japan, in particular), and agree that it is exciting to watch and very competitive, the simple truth is that the USWNT at its finest would struggle to win a single game if they had to take part in the qualification round for the Men's tournament. It is NOT the same game, so of course, the pay scale is bound to differ. Sure, I can see the grounds for an argument that women should be paid MORE. Particularly if you can come up with data on the revenue stream from women's soccer and how much goes to the players, or if you can offer metrics showing the viewer base for the Women's World Cup, or something like that. I CERTAINLY am not disagreeing that women should receive the same pay as men for THE SAME WORK. If there is a woman who is good enough to play for Real Madrid or Man United, then they absolutely should be paid the same as the men who play for the same teams. But that is not what we are talking about here . . . is it? If you agree that the USWNT should be paid the same as the men, my question is - what next? Will you be supporting the demands of players on the Toledo MudHens and the Cedar Rapids Kernels to receive the same salaries as those who play for the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox? That isnt gender equality. Abby, of all people, should know better.

@@eartherinfire I get that. If you want to change the dynamic, then get out from behind your keyboard and buy tickets to a women's soccer match! As I asaid, I am a huge fan of the Women's game. I can name every player on the Nadeshiko Japan (Japanese WNT) squad, and have attended MANY league matches. I would love to see it become even bigger. But the FACT is that it is NOT bigger (at least not yet). The sport is not as popular, and it does not generate anywhere near the same revenues. Where would you propose the money to pay the women players come from? If you dine at a Michelin five-star restaurant, rather than eating at McSDonalds, you pay a higher price, and tend to assume that the cooks and waitstaff are being paid more, accordingly. Why dont McDonalds employees make as much as the maitre'd at a five-star restaurant? I think you know the answer to that question.
