In this video we explored "opposite emotions" on the wheel and used the example of disgust and trust. What opposite feelings or pair of blend of feelings are you curious about? Share a confusing feeling in the comments and we'll get your question answered.

Emotional intelligence always sounded a bit new agey to me, and I had problems with a certain home where words like emotional literacy was used. Therefore there always was some aversive emotional baggage for these terms, that kept me from exploring further. I love how you discredited the idea of having more "positive" emotions. It always sounded weak to me. We shouldn't be continuously flooded with unpleasant emotions, but sometimes trying to avoid certain emotions, just leaves us chasing our own tail. It also makes us unable to accept that bad things exist, which just makes those things exist outside of or own perceptions. Hopefully this channel will help me grow a bit more.

"The chemicals of emotions only last for about 6 seconds but our feelings and moods can last for much longer." "When we focus on one thing we ignore the others" "We need to be able to tune in, notice all of these signals, to be more awake in the world" get the energy to move forward to create what we're looking forward in our lives.

I have noticed several new learning points after watching this beautiful video but the most important learning is the emotions work in harmony with basic human needs. This is the biggest paradigm shift for me over last 5-6 years of EQ learning.

Well said Shakeel, the physiological response to emotions which is the base of this study brings up some very interesting points on how we are wired and how do we respond to emotions. Thanks for watching!

I got 2 minutes 27 seconds in before breaking down. I'm 35, socialized female. Why didn't my parents love me enough to teach me this? I know they couldn't. They didn't know how to love anyone, including me. But man, this video hurt a lot. Had to take a lot of breaks. Took over an hour. Reparenting yourself as an adult is hard. To anyone else out there going through something similar, you're not alone. There's other grown adults curled up into balls bawling their eyes out, and realizing how far back they have to start. But we can do this. One step at a time. We can mature. Just let this nice man's words wash over you, and let the grief happen. You're not alone.

Thank you for breaking this down Josh. Kevin Herft re-introduced this model to me in his session over the weekend and it surely adds value to understand the intensity of our emotions and exploring what more we are feeling and understanding the why. The emotion I am most intrigued about is love & remorse. I often find myself feeling sad over someone/something we love. Maybe when a colleague or friend disappoint us. I am very sad by the actions but still love and care for the person.

So insightful that all emotions are positive and we learn to read ourselves better and make sense of what we are feeling and why

Thank you for your comment Paul, it's really important to think about it this way, too often our society tells us that happiness is all that matters, but as we know, emotions are data, and if we only allow certain emotions to come through, what we are doing is suppressing them and ignoring essential information from us to us!

I was helping my class understand the feelings wheel today, you made it so simple easy to understand and relevant that I'm sending them the link : ). So many golden nuggets in your video, I gained so much insight into the physiological opposites of emotions and the complimentary aspect of emotions and human needs, Yes lonely and connected is really not an opposite but an important signal about our need to feel belonged.

Thank you for the video, there is such a mess in psychology field in attempt to explain the difference between emotions and feelings, I wish more people looked into astrological archetypes as astrology explains quite well and easier in a way all that range of emotions and feelings, different states, through the archetypes of planets, their positions in sights and aspects between them, whether in the natal chart, timing, locational influences or synastry (compatibility) etc.

i really like the analogy you use with regard to learning about emotions: emotions are like letters that compose sequences of letters (words) that produce specific outcomes
@isaacbarratt854 Жыл бұрын
the whole is greater than the sum of its parts the analogy i used compared life to chess and the emotions to pieces on the chess board but i like yours better: life is like a chess board whereby life makes the first move, the pieces are unknown to you, but as you discover their functions the pieces become more distinct from one another, and from the sequences and combinations of different emotions we serendipitously discover strategy (with strategy is introduced the concept of agency)

So once you write down emotions and expand them, then what? What's next?
@annetteprice Жыл бұрын
For me the wheel is helpful for me to actually feel emotions. Many of us are closed off to our emotions and identifying them is the first step to feeling them. This “feeling what we feel” can be done through journaling, listening to music that resonates emotionally, watching a film that does the same, or talking to someone.

Doesn't Plutchik consider lust or attraction as emotion and why?
@annetteprice Жыл бұрын
It’s semantics at some point. The opposite of attraction would be disgust, so look opposite disgust on the Plutchik wheel and you have: admiration, trust, acceptance. I think those cover what you’re describing, no?

Those suffering from OCD should not use their emotions as a guide to what is important. This caveat may apply to other mental disorders and maybe to personality disorders as well.
@annetteprice Жыл бұрын
Yes, and the same with PTSD. Although learning about our emotions generally can be very helpful for anyone with these disorders, but - at least initially - our assessments should be taken with a grain of salt.

Wow! You say that “trust is embracing and connecting.” This is in stark contrast to the religious horseshit that “we must be willing to “jump off a cliff”/“make big sacrifices“/“leave our comfort zone”) to show our faith in “God.” OTHERWISE WE ARE NOT WORTHY OF HIM!
