I don't know but these fires are like being intentionally set.
@SoloPilot63 жыл бұрын
Posters asking why they didn't move the coaches: A), the fires started long before sunrise, so there probably wasn't anyone around. B), the coaches need a minimum of 70 psi air pressure to unlock the parking brakes. It can take 5 minutes to build air, because there are not only brakes, but also air-bag suspension and air tanks that have to be filled. C), if someone had seen the fire start and wanted to move coaches, they might have to first know which coaches to get keys for, then get the keys, use the right key for each coach, then start. While one coach builds air, they could repeat the process for the next coach, then the next, etc. This assumes that the coaches' "Front/Off/Rear" switches weren't set to lock out the driver's start switch (which a lot of companies in California do when parking coaches overnight, to make them harder to steal). D), pallet yard fires are HOT, so it would likely have been impossible for anyone to get into the coaches by the time the fire department arrived, and the fire depart would probably keep people out after that.

Buses/coaches are very problematic when parked in any yard. They need to be parked close to fit in, but this unfortunately makes it very difficult/impossible for firefighters to access. wonder if a realistic affordable solution could be to have sprinklers on a metal frame overhanging the parking lanes, or a roof structure similar to gas stations with fire suppression systems. Making a fully enclosed structure would just make fires worse and they can't just make the buses take up extra room and like you said difficult to access in a fire.

Look closely at the right side of the video. You have a "finger" of fire progression. Best guess is it's a fuel fire, fed from one of the closer buses. That row of buses was involved in rapid succession. Time for a foam party.
@johnnytdufc3 жыл бұрын
From the overhead shot, it appears the fire started at the Pallets and it's really hard to conceive of how an accidental fire could be started in a yard literally set up as a gigantic bonfire. I suspect that someone at the bus company may have started it in the bonfire prepared within feet of their buses packed side to side, but because the bus co. couldn't operate in LA, they may have been behind on their premiums. Though I hope insurance covers those buses. Pallets are easy to replace. Toxins from the upholstery and plastics are nasty. A water drop would be helpful on the buses and pallets, maybe many, but overhead lines may prevent their use and fire retardant can't generally be used in inhabited/inner city areas. Having said all that, this fire, as nearly all industrial fires, are the result of at least Negligence.

As if the city of Compton has that sort of money to foot the bill. Your city residents are broke ass poor taxes aren't much and the city probably doesn't have enough to pay for large resources. That why ghettos suck.

So the business owner, knowing his premises were in a high fire risk area failed to do a risk assessment which would have led to the method of parking the buses being such that any fire would be limited to a few buses. Perhaps the insurance company will reimburse him for the few buses he might have lost but not the many his negligence allowed to burn.

Well, it seems bus depots are built next to wood or pallet processing plants in the US as well...we have had a couple of fires in The Netherlands that reached a second-hand bus depot this way as well. I will say I'm surprised to see just 2 trucks doing something for a fire this size, but that said: we typically don't have overhead powerlines in my country so I can understand wanting to back off when powerlines are starting falling down and sparking.... To bad about the buses...sucks seeing them go up in flames like that.

Well... if it started at 4:30 or 5:00 in the morning... how many people from the bus company would have been there and hiw many there could drive a bus? Of course if you'd been there I'm sure you would have jumped right in and gotten them all out... but not all of us are gifted

Because it can take a few minutes to start a bus. Any commercial vehicle with air brakes has to build up air pressure. That can take several minutes.

We gonna base this off of industrial sites. In an industrial setting to do anything that consist of even making a spark a hot work permit is needed. Which definitely wasn’t here and requires a fire watch. And after the job is completed that fire watch supposed to remain there for another hour. To ensure nothing received a spark and eventually lights up. Just 1 hour an this is in chemical plants ect where a fire can be a really serious thing. Not just a bus yard. An I’m sure for places like that. An them choosing an hour was based off study and history because of the level of danger one of them places exploding for the workers and community’s all around for many a miles. So it’s someone standing by for an hour. Which tells me. At some point in that night. Some worker or workers was there. Working on something at 3:30-430 at the earliest if not closer to time of ignition. Or it was intentionally light on fire. As far as busses. A bus drives like a car. Only a simp couldn’t move one. There’s no Manuel transmission. Let the glow plugs do there thing an crank it up an put the thing in drive press gas. And save them all? Yeah right. Had it been early on by competent workers. 2-3 of the closest buses could of been moved and at then may of been enough to keep the fires from the buses and they may of been there to only put pallets out. The busses burning is the fuel there really struggling to put out. And if that was purchased by whoever as a fleet they probably would of only needed one key. If it was bought from a fleet package their usually keyed alike. Same with cop cars

*These new Prevost buses cost over $1 million each so that's a serious insurance claim and will really come through at a time when tourism and sales are down.
