I'm an aerialist, I am at heights hanging on by own hands. It's a risk, and at the same time, I don't take risks. When I did Half Dome in 2017 I climbed with a harness and clipped on to the cables because I knew granite is slippery and all it takes is one little mess up and you are done. After having climbed with a harness, even more so I wouldn't do it without one. There's always that one Person who has something to prove abs will recklessly climb around you (I went at a normal pace with a harness). Those kind of things can make someone fall too. And if you are in a harness you can try grabbing for someone Oc they fall. If you are not in one, you'll just have to stand there and bid 'adieu' to the faller.

In my much younger days, I climbed Half Dome a total of six times, the last one in 1980...when I was 40. Once, the cables were not yet in their elevated position, but my younger brother and I climbed anyway, just picking up the cables as we went along.

I have hiked there twice- NEVER go when theres a forecast of rain ..even of it rained early morning the rock will be extremely slick.No amount of grip or the best hiking shoes will work.Follow the weather ask around if in Yosemite.

Yes because they could take a number of people with them as they fall and slip by them...like bowling pins. (not trying to be funny).

@@dodgedabullet670 It's hard to believe there aren't more regulations. They even let children under 10 hike the cables. Lots of people have fallen to their deaths. Usually if a roller coaster kills someone, the ride gets shut down. It seems crazy, but I'm also afraid of heights.

A climber I know was getting ready to climb Half Dome when he found a shoe at the bottom of the cliff. He was thinking a hiker had dropped his shoe and had to hike back without it, then he realized there was still a foot in the shoe. He found the rest of the body near by. Falling that far actually shatters the body on impact.

There have only been 2 deaths since 1910...this one in 2018 & a young woman in 2019...so I'm wondering where your story is coming from...made up?
@erictaylor54624 жыл бұрын
@@dodgedabullet670 There have been over 300 deaths in the last 15 years. And this story was told to me by the person who wrote a book, Mark Wellman, and the story is also in that book, so you can look it up yourself. Sorry, I don't remember the book's title, but you can find it with an author search. I first heard the story in 1992, but I think the book might have come out after that. The book is Mark's autobiography if that helps. It is extremely rude to accuse someone of lying without providing evidence, which is why I'm not accusing *YOU* of lying with your "2 deaths since 1910" statistic. I'm just assuming you are wrong Here's Mark's Wikipedia page to help you find that book. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Wellman

A word of caution: Do NOT pull up on the cable poles, they will pull right out of their holes.

Stupid people need to be banned. Half Dome with solid planning and getting off the rock before a storm rolls in is done everyday it is open and 425 people do so each of those days. Stupid people don't know what storm clouds look like apparently
