Why do these almond farmers insist upon leaving the soil bare and thus exposed to the elements? Doesn't this result in water and wind erosion of this most valuable of life-giving resources? What about allowing grasses and/or ground covers grow under a grazing herd? Wouldn't this also add to income through livestock and/or meat sales?

Monocrops are bad. They don't care about the land or environment.. It's all about greed !

Varroa mites now entered through Australia’s port of Newcastle and most of the people in charge are not doing enough to stop it. And a lot of people not realising how significant this situation is. Most are saying “they’ll contain it” fools!!!!

Sad week for Beekeepers. Varroa mite now in Australia. Mite is way in front of the DPI. Once again, had to do very little protect an industry and they have stuffed it, not checking sentinel hives regularly enough and not maintain a healthy relationship with hobbiest, lot of unregistered bee hives out there!!!! What isn’t measure can’t be managed..

All come in off shipping containers thru Newcastle. Thousands, used to ship pine from Werris creek to port. No biosecurity at all !

The thing is the scorched earth policy off the nut growers reduce the capacity off permanently beekeeping and goat and sheep keepers, there no ecological balance at all

Would it benefit to plant legume cover crops in the orchards for sequestering moisture and providing off season blossoms etc

This is a monoculture farm with the same trees throughout & therefore will be more prone to pest & disease. Biodiversty is better. As long as there are no poisons around when the bees come, the bees should be ok. But other problems will arise as time goes by because of the design flaw.

There are some bee brokers now in the USA now who buys all beehives up in the states to guarantee the California almonds pollination, scary stuff if those companies fall in the wrong political hands. This is because most beekeepers don’t give their bees anymore for this pollination trips seeing they come back after almonds, apple, pears, apricot, melon, etc, with more than 120 chemicals at least. Meaning sick as can be.

They are not, but it’s all about the money. Every hive move or hive opening kills some bees.

Greed, profit. Biosecurity. But that's today's bee keeping, spread varroa and afb. Woohoo. The industry is doomed.
