This couple was going to put $200,000 in a trust fund for this man because they didn't want it to be "inappropriately" spent? The irony of it all.

Yeah that's what I thought. There house doesn't look too special and she couldn't afford gas but now they have a pretty nice BMW which the police only would have confiscated if they had good reason to think it was bought with stolen money, trips to Vegas and lots of other bling around them, it seems me that there disposable income got a sudden boost from somewhere lol. The sad thing is that what they had said about him spending his money on drugs is probably true? they'll go to prison for fraud/theft and he'll go to the morgue after an overdose? there'll be no winners at the end of this.

Why doesn't gofundme show how "kind" they are by just giving the guy the money NOW and filing a lawsuit against the couple to recoup their losses. What do they mean they are waiting for the outcome of the investigation and trial. That will take YEARS. Gofundme does absolutely NOTHING and gets 30% of all money raised. Once donations have gone over a certain amount, like 10k or 20k it should have to be distributed by a professional finance company to make sure it is spent on what it is raised for, not released to the people who set it up or receive the money. That way people can donate knowing it is legitimate and going on what it was raised for.

People like this piss me off. They ruin it for actual people who need help. My sister was disabled in chronic pain and decided to sign up for disability and got denied because some woman who made the news with a disability scam had a similar story. My sister eventually attempted suicide because of this intense pain. She survived and it actually helped her have a new perspective but people who actually need disability have it almost impossible to get it

A friend of mine started a GoFund Me account for me after I got sick and my husband walked out. It only raised $300, but I never received that money. My friend swears she didn’t receive it either. We have since drifted apart. I never pushed the issue since it was only $300, but it still bothers me. At one point, I was very comfortable financially. I put myself through college while raising my son alone, and I built a successful career in the IT field. Over the years, I loaned money to people who never paid it back. I gave money and food to the homeless and less fortunate. I have purchased bus tickets, fixed vehicles, and given jobs to people who needed them. And yes, some people took advantage, but I never regretted a single thing. My son’s father owes me over $50k in child support. My ex-husband owes me $70k in alimony. I have been denied for disability, and I am appealing. But if I’m approved, I will be owed $30k in back payments. I am struggling and can not afford health insurance, which I need desperately due to a degenerative connective tissue disorder. There are people like me who have been generous with their money, time, and resources. But when we need help, we are forgotten. Again, I regret nothing. I was not being helpful to get anything in return. I had no idea I’d end up in this position. But it is a bit disheartening to not have your good deeds reciprocated when you are the one in need. And then there are scumbags like this who scam honest, generous, hardworking people, and steal from those who truly need it! Our veterans should NEVER be on the street!! And for these people to take advantage of him for their own gain makes me sick! I don’t know if they can file criminal charges against these people, but if they can, I hope they get jail time!!!

She was working as a Secretary for Transportation Dept at 40k year was reported. The most I ever made per year was maybe 35k and that was with a lot of overtime pay! I never recall running out of gas! His job pays rather well too as a carpenter. They had plans to scam this guy from the start! A BMW? Really? Especially if purchased after the GoFundMe started growing, it is obvious! And then go on a TV interview and lie about it. Shameful!

As of January 8, 2020, Bobbitt has been sentenced in state court to five years of probation conditional on him successfully completing the county’s drug court program. McClure pleaded guilty in April to theft by deception and is expected to be sentenced to a four-year prison term as part of a plea agreement with prosecutors. Sentencing for Bobbitt and McClure’s federal crimes has been postponed until after the federal case against D’Amico is completed. If found guilty, D’Amico faces a potential sentence of 20 years in prison and $250,000 fines for the wire fraud and another 10 years and a $250,000 fine for the money laundering.

I did not say it was right. What I said was that is it strikes me as weird that people would give 400,000 USD to this cause of one man when they could be giving money to charities in their own backyard. It is a weird concentration of resources on one man. He himself said it was like winning the lottery. Is that what people gave money for? So he could win the lottery?

Who do they think they are!? You can't raise donations, then put stipulations on giving it to the person. @ulovetashi

It's not even up for debate at this point (Smh) they clearly took that money and enjoyed every penny of it. I think it's so gross. No matter what he might have used that money for, it wasn't for them to keep. They raised it for him and that's where it should have went. If they thought he was such a terrible person or a drug abuser, why not get him help instead of raising money and not give it to him. People from all over donated that money thinking it would help someone in need, but instead this couple went on lavish vacations, purchased a BMW and went shopping.

The couple goal was only 10000$ if they only raised only 10k that might have gave home the money but they got 400k the average human does not make that much money in a year so when they saw that had that much money greed set in and I am pretty sure when Johnny Heard they had 400k he got greedy to

How is it that he got greedy? The money was raised FOR HIM. That means that any and all funds were to go to him, not the people who set up the fund for him. If they really wanted him to have the money they could have set him up with a financial advisor. It wasn't up to them how the money was to be spent. They treated those funds as if it was their own and that was purely greedy and wrong!
