The same thing happened to the JW's in the WW2. They were tortured and thrown in the concentration camps because they are politically neutral and refused to support the war. They shared their food rations with the Jews, the homosexuals and the other persecuted groups in the camps. They stood by their God and protected the vulnerable in every way they could. Many were shot. Imagine the world today if everyone said no to war like they did. The Russian situation will spread worldwide, it's going to get uglier, they know that, and even in the face of death, they will remain loyal to their God and peaceful to the end. (1 Pet. 2:11) In keeping with that fact are the words of the apostle Paul at Philippians 3:20, showing that the citizenship of Christ’s true followers is in the heavens. That is why the Christian witnesses of Jehovah do not engage in politics, nor do they buy or carry political party cards. When Jesus Christ was on earth, he set higher standards for his followers, and he refused all involvement in political or military matters. After Jesus had miraculously fed several thousand people with a few loaves of bread and two small fish, Jewish men wanted to seize him and make him a political king. But Jesus avoided them by quickly withdrawing to the mountains. (John 6:5-15) Regarding this incident, The New International Commentary on the New Testament states: “There were fierce nationalistic longings among the Jews of that period, and doubtless many of those who saw the miracle felt that here was a divinely accredited leader, who was just the one to lead them against the Romans. So they set themselves to make him king.” It adds that Jesus “decisively rejected” this offer of political leadership. Christ gave no support to any Jewish insurrection against Roman domination. Indeed, he foretold what would be the result of the revolt that would take place after his death-untold woes for the inhabitants of Jerusalem and the destruction of that city.-Luke 21:20-24. Until his Kingdom puts an end to the rule of political governments, Christ’s disciples follow his example. They render obedience to those established authorities but do not interfere in their political undertakings. (Daniel 2:44; Matthew 4:8-10) Jesus left guidelines for his disciples, stating: “Pay back, therefore, Caesar’s things to Caesar, but God’s things to God.” (Matthew 22:21) Earlier, in his Sermon on the Mount, Jesus had said: “If someone under authority impresses you into service for a mile, go with him two miles.” (Matthew 5:41) In the context of this sermon, Jesus was illustrating the principle of willing submission to legitimate demands, whether in human relations or in governmental requirements that are in harmony with God’s law.-Luke 6:27-31; John 17:14, 15

A religion that shuns previous members is violating human rights. Imagine your family and friends shunning you 100% of the time because you didn’t believe their doctrines. @Eros Caerus - Why do JW’s deflect to other religions when they are trying to justify their actions? Other organizations also refuse the emblems of the last supper, they call it a Black Mass. So based on your justification JW’s celebrate Black Mass by rejecting Jesus Body. JWs DO have interaction with worldly people. They deal with them when working, they go to school with them, they have friends who aren’t JW’s and they knock on their doors to start conversations. But they refuse this interaction when someone leaves or is disfellowshipped. Also JWs do NOT have ownership of God. When someone realizes that the doctrines taught by JW’s are false, leaving them doesn’t indicate they left God. Rather it means they realized what is taught today will become old light tomorrow, or perhaps they delved into the history of the religion, or they began reading the Bible for themselves and realized that the JW application was incorrect. Last I checked children often don’t really understand adult decisions. Nor are they taught to delve deep. Most born in JW children are baptized before they reach adulthood. Jesus didn’t get baptized until he was in his 30’s for very good reason. But JW’s like to indoctrinate children at a young age so they will be dedicated and captured for life. Such is the reason many commit suicide because they feel trapped, be free and lose your family, or stay and suffer in what you don’t believe. Jesus never once shunned anyone, even Peter or Judas, even though he knew they would betray him. The few adults that become JW’s are not fully informed about all the changed doctrine over the last 145+ years. Many of these also don’t have knowledge of all the child abuse lawsuits and investigations currently going on and in the past. This is especially true if they come from a poor background without access to computers or a library. Any growth seen by this organization is currently happening in 3rd world countries, where people are desperate. Numbers have fallen in the US and other industrialized nations where technology is more accessible.

You cannot pursue higher education and discourage careers. The governing body does not help the witnesses in Russia or any one for that matter. I have plenty of issues with the JW's but I don't wish this on anyone, the fact that it's ideological persecution in our time, and the world is silent, sets a very worrying precedent. Take the plight of Tibet, or the Uyghurs for example, and it begins to dawn on a person that governments can pretty much do as they damn well please, if the group attacked is relatively small, fringe, or isolated no one cares.

I've personally studied with Jehovah's witnesses for 5 years when I was a teen. However, I could never get myself to convert. They didn't pressure me to convert and anyone with a brain is able to distinguish what lines up with their beliefs and what doesn't. Most of them are good people and it's not my place or yours to judge them. God is the only judge. Everyone is flawed. Therefore the interpretation of religions will be flawed because all flawed people assume they have the right understanding of religion that they lose sight of what it's supposed to be about. So they begin to impose their ridiculous views and force people to follow them claiming that's what God wants but in all truth it's their way of controlling others. People should have the right to form their own views without outside influence. Our relationship with God is just that. It's between us and him and no one else. He sees what's in our hearts and is the only one that has the right to pass judgment on us.

@@OTLKuband I like what you are saying but morality based in theism is problematic. It leads to a dilemma: does God command things because they're good or are they good because God commands them? A number of theists assume the latter, so they willingly do awful things like burn heretics and crash airplanes into buildings.

Jehovah's Witnesses match the test for being a cult in the BITE model developed by Dr Steven Hassan, a recognized expert in cults. This model isn't concerned if an organization is religious or not but focuses on its behaviors. Many religions aren't cults when weighed against the BITE model and are certainly less harmful than JWs.

@@boboak9168 fundamentally religious memes are dangerous because they are a symptom of delusion and cognitive dissonance. As long as the social group that is cultivating a certain cult(meme), if they happen to be many enough will integrate the cult into society. This is how religions are formed from cults. Both organised and unorganised superstition is akin to a mental health disorder that can be cured with education. I'm not implying that it is 'wrong' to believe in anything. But it is quite surprising to see that all the major religions have extremist members. The KKK and The Pope read from the same book, their interpretations differ so vastly. It is wrong to force anyone to take up any idea. The autonomy seen in hospitals should also be extended to other health issues like wide-spread hysteria and delusional disorders. Definitions don't really tell us much. Descriptions are better. Take your time and read the history of the church. Wikipedia is a widely trusted source. All the evils you will encounter should not be untied from the narrative of the entire religion. It is dangerous of course to command people to accept information on authority, without evidence. I think the question here should be : Is it possible for a religion or cult to practice extremism that can violate the laws of a country? The answer is too obvious it should frighten us. I think the state should be responsible for the protection of its citizens. Intolerance only breeds hatred and violence. All human beings should be treated justly irrespective of the ideas they possess. The ideas that have possessed them. We need to start learning from bad examples. I hope this clears up what I meant.

@@deeb3077 If this truly were a “””correct””” religion, you would not need to use a website and everything would line up perfectly. Unfortunately, it does not. Notice how the dates keep on being pushed back? I once read in a publication that the world was supposed to end in 1973. And there are others with earlier dates. Not to mention the obvious cult tactics; “The world is ruled by satan” alone is the most alarming phrase. I wish I knew earlier. I remember seeing all of those images in the “Book of Bible Stories” as a kid. That last illustration of innocent people being brutally murdered by an uncaring god still makes me cringe. A lot of people in the organization have their hearts in the right place, but the higher ups are manipulating you, manipulating my family and over 8.5 million people. And the use of specific stimuli and other things has entrapped you just as it did me. I don’t wish to slander you, or anyone, I am just deeply concerned and I’m tired seeing families fall apart and go into disarray because some people in New York said that they must abandon them to bring them back.
