@@TxHoneyBeeDefinitely. The fact that she continued posting her children after knowing that they were being sexualized and their school address was leaked, but just “concealed” their identities says everything. She saw the dangers firsthand but continues posting her children in what she sees as a “safer” way. It’s not safe, everyone who has continued watching knows who her kids are and where they live, where they go to school. Why add fuel to that fire?

Yes but the argument is that kids/minors don’t have a grasp on long term effects of having their whole lives online and CANT give consent.. So whether a kid says they want to or don’t want to be online, they are not old enough to understand what they’re giving consent to, so we as parents need to protect them by waiting until they are old enough to have their own social media and are able to make that decision for themselves, There are legit child predators online who save videos & pics of young kids for nefarious purposes

If so then I guess the number of children filing for emancipation from their abusive guardians will see a rise too The adults responsible for parenting and supervising ought to know better. There's nothing preventing developers and bigtech from providing consistent privacy check-ins, safety education and preventative tools and quarterly screening to proactively keep their communities safe - well, they'd get less revenue based on their current business models so I guess that's a bit of a deterrent 😕

There’s a family vlogger here on KZbin that posts her child with special needs and her daughter.. and overshares. In one video, she was telling everyone how constipated her daughter was (while daughter was crying in the background from the pain), and I found it incredibly disgusting of her to do something like that. I told her in the comments (nicely) how she is exploiting her children (and a couple of people even agreed with me) but she had her “defenders” who told me and others who brought up the issue to “leave her alone. She tries very hard for her kids.” I had to unsubscribe. Parents, keep your kids off social media

I've personally seen gross behaviors from mothers and their social media addiction, using their children to get attention. One mother pulled up to the park in her car, got her and her child out, put him onto the swing for max 5 minutes, and took pictures the entire time before waddling back to the car when SHE was done. Another one, almost the same thing, but at a splash pad, almost begging the child to "smile x 100" while she snapped loads of pics and then flopped down to watch and not play at all. Outside of KZbin, I no longer use social media, it's become so toxic, if people want to see what I'm up to I'm a call away.

The need to protect your children’s privacy should be inherent in every parent and pre-dates the internet. Those of us who were around before the internet know that there have always been irresponsible parents who exploit their children for their own self indulgence (children’s beauty pageants). The internet simply provides a tool to enhance the thrill for those selfish parents. The mom who said she started dancing with her kids to keep them entertained still has no self awareness of her own need for attention, she only posted the videos for herself, not for her kids and she only removed the videos when she felt threatened by the responses. If the responses had all been positive or if she had not read the comments, she would still be posting her children to get “likes” and to feed her need for attention. These internet parents need therapy and parenting classes.

Sensitive, introverted children suffer the most when their parents discuss their lives without any regard for the children's privacy. It can be difficult for those kids to speak up because those types of parents don't listen or change their behavior anyway. I feel badly for those kids especially. They are trapped in a world of broken trust through daily disrespect for their feelings.

My mother got her first video camera the year I was born. I have known what it is like to be publicized and displayed for public scrutiny without consent. Doesn't feel good being videotaped while vulnerable and my 25th birthday video montage gives me nightmare flashbacks to this day. I am so glad my husband and I got on the same page keeping our kid off of social media right away. It is strange to me that this concern was not considered by other parents... Have parents of today not been paying attention to the negative impacts of publicity for child actors/actresses or the crime cases involving young kids even with people they know well? Doesn't it seem significant that many of the most beloved famous people keep their families out of the spotlight and blur the image of their baby/kids when possible? I definitely want to stay connected with people, so I do understand the appeal especially coming from a big family. However, the number one rule of boxing is "always protect yourself"... That should be said for our kids too, so don't take away their choice to stay private and protected.

I’m very thankful that I made the decision to stay off of platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, and Snapchat. I’ve never been on TikTok and Snapchat. I haven’t had Twitter since high school and I haven’t had Instagram since college. I graduated over five years ago. It will be five years in September since I’ve had Facebook. Im near 30 and it’s been so beneficial to my mental health. Don’t get me wrong: it’s great to reconnect with friends and it does have its perks. However, now that I have a child, I have to be very careful. It’s not me being mean but I’m being cautious because you don’t know about some people now a days. 🤷🏼‍♀️. I don’t post videos on KZbin either. Only comment on videos. Keeping my life journey for me to enjoy! Be careful out there everyone.

Way to go on taking care of you & your little one! Making these choices about social media is a hard one…I still have Fb & Ig but rarely post & for Fb try to keep it “private” when it’s of my kids but I still wonder if it’s safe & we have a biz page that we post some pics of our kids publicly but now I wonder if I should go delete those. They are pics of my kids in a bike race & the event is set to public anyways by the host. It’s so hard to keep our kids off of everything. I have 6 kiddos ages 10-20 so I’ve gone back and forth over this topic for years. I used to not think anything of posting pics now it makes kinda sick to think of posting anything on Fb;(

It's saddening to hear the first woman's story because it seems like she genuinely had innocent intentions. People get lonely and I can see how attractive parasocial relationships can be - it must feel like having a few hundred friends/relatives following along with your life at first, and sharing with them probably feels just as harmless as sharing with great aunt Shirley. But as an adult, you need to be the more mature one who sees past that allure to protect your kids. Glad people like these lovely women are speaking out with their experiences.

The 2nd biggest concern, after exploiting their children, is a lot of the younger generation in their early 20’s having kids are not working. Their channels consist of we are going on a cruise (usually with other family channels) then a week later they are heading on an international holiday. They believe taking videos of themselves going on holidays is a “job”. What happens when all this goes away or circumstances change?! None of them look like they know how to hold down a normal 9-5 job. What does this teach their kids? The most annoying thing to hear from them when they are given reality in their comments is people are trolling them or people are just jealous. There is no accountability from them in any way. Will it be everyone else’s fault when they can’t keep doing things the way they want - absolutely! So they keep building fancy houses and take all these trips and when it all comes crashing down they will cry about how unfairly they have been treated or ask their “internet family” for money 🙄 I think it’s wonderful to see some genuine families out there having fun but the fake ones who get defensive about comments are usually the calculating, exploitative people looking for attention and fame using their children. It will be interesting to see in a years time how KZbin and other platforms change the rules around these family channels…..

I have said explicitly to all my family that I am happy for them to take pictures of my kids for there own personal collections but that nothing is ever to be posted or sent anywhere. Snapchat, Facebook, Insta, and definitely not tick-tock. I had a massive rowe with my younger sister over it cause I found out she was sending snapchats of my daughter to her friends (who have never even met her - she’s three). I was furious. I basically said, “she’s a person, and a child at that. She is not here for your entertainment, or to help you get likes or lol online. She is my daughter, not a product. Treat me, and her with some respect.” It’s even more frustrating, because I don’t even have any social media (apart from a KZbin account), and so I’ve discovered on occasion that extended family have posted pics of her on their socials, and have to be told by people who are on social media. I can’t even keep track of it myself. One of my aunties posted a nude video of my little girl playing under a hose a couple of years ago. I was absolutely furious. DON’T POST PHOTOS OF OTHER PEOPLES KIDS WITHOUT EXPLICIT CONSENT FROM THE PARENTS!

This is exactly why I left Instagram years ago. One of my neighbor friends would buy a bunch of trendy clothes online, dress her kids up in them on Sunday, one outfit after the other, and take posed pictures. Then during the week she posted the pictures as if it was what they were wearing that day. But the kids went to daycare everyday. They weren’t home with the mom. Nothing wrong with that, but she was literally lying to her followers that they were home with them. Then she would take her kids to the most Instagramable of all places to get cute pictures of them getting on and off horses, petting animals, drinking fancy drinks, wearing cute hats and shoes. Once we went to a kids play place, kind a like indoor playground gym that my kids love. The whole time she was complaining about it, how gross and germy (to be fair it was grungy but I’m not afraid of it ;) it was and how the lighting was bad. I wanted to say, “well your kids are having a great time here, are you just mad cause you can’t post it on Instagram? That was the last time we took our kids somewhere together. I feel pretty certain that she had a third child just so she could post it on her Instagram feed and get more followers. I’m also very certain that she went to live in Bali with her family just to get pics for her feed. I am and think that every single tattoo that she got, which were plentiful, were just for boosts and her Instagram likes. She was independently wealthy and hired the cheapest immigrant nannies to help all the time (nothing at all wrong with that, but she would brag about how she could pay a 15 year old girl $8 for 3 kids under the table but a real nanny would be at least $25/hour), but she never posted about her help. She acted like she did it all herself. The sad thing is is that I knew she was completely and utterly struggling with parenting, in utter despair, crying, spanking her kids multiple times a day (not illegal in our state but she admitted it didn’t help the kids act better but didn’t know what to do otherwise, she’d even spank them in the middle of the night when they’d wake up with nightmares and cone to get for comfort) and at her wits end. which is normal and perfectly understandable, everybody struggles with parenting from time to time at the very least. But it was the absolute complete opposite of what she put on her Instagram feed. It’s like she was so invested in creating this perfect life online, never talking about reality. But again, you don’t have to trauma dump online either. In any case I just think it’s too messy and weird for the kids.
