911 operators are obligated to stay calm. The reason is to keep the person on the phone from being delusional. They need the person to try to stay calm, so they can tell the 911 operator the most amount of information possible. Though, I will admit that saying "hello" by itself is a bit weird, the best you'd do is ask straight away where they live and other important information. For calls like this, it's important to be as quick as possible before anything happens.

We had a home invasion when I was about 10. I woke up and was walking down the hallway and I saw a man at the end of it. I freaked out and it was just us staring at each other for a few seconds. Then he started walking toward me and I screamed. I sht you not, my 4 year old scrappy cat come running up the hallway behind me and totally annihilated this guy. He got scared off and ran out of the house. I literally got rescue by my own cat. She was like a guard dog but I didn't think she would literally attack someone. Love you Kitty :) RIP

in situation like these, and I've been trained for few hours, you are supposed to get as much info as possible, not saying "HeLlO?" First of all, U gotta ask for the place, u gotta try you hardest to understand where help is needed. As soon as the other person tells you, NO MATTER WHAT, be ready to send ambulance and police to that place as fast as you can. In my country we have different ambulances for different things so we gotta ask what is the situation, but since she was screaming her sister was being stabbed, it is clear that [A] Someone is assaulting a person (send police) [B] The person is probably wounded from a sharp object (call the appropriate ambulance for such damages). Asking "hello hello" doesn't even calm down the person. Yeah they even need to calm down the other but asking HELLO HELLO doesn't do shit but actually aggravates the situation since the victim will think you cant hear them and they will continue to say the same thing even louder

I served for 21 years, 17 of which I was a Force Recon bubba, and I now do contracting work. I have a wife, and 4 kids, 3 of them girls. It has gotten to the point in this country where I have trained my family what to do if God forbid something happens. My son is 16, and he knows what to do. I also have a Malingator that was trained by a guy that trains them for the special operations side of the military. 70 grand is a ton of money, but when it comes to my family, if I could buy a Tyrannosaurus Rex, I would.
