My daughter is now 29 years old. She was the first child in the USA diagnosed with PANDAS .. Sadly she never recovered but is a strong young woman. She deals with the damage the disease did to her with courage. Hopefully her treatment helped. They didn’t know how to fix my daughter since she was the first. Antibiotics. Years of seizures hospital mental illness. Big hug hope they get her positive results.

I am so happy she was diagnosed! My 7 year old suddenly woke up like a different kid. He was diagnosed with PANS/PANDAS. 30 days of antibiotics and OCD meds and I have my baby back. Parents if your kiddo suddenly changes overnight. You don’t recognize them push the doctors to find the cause. Many doctors don’t know of or even believe this is real. THIS IS VERY REAL. Don’t stop until you find a doctor that can help your kid. I wouldn’t have believed it had we not lived it. May God’s grace lead you to doctors who can help.

You make a great point on noticing behavior changes because I think a lot of people from the outside would (understandably but incorrectly) assume this was just the child’s behavior and she needed some different parenting techniques but if your child is having any kind of erratic or sudden change in behavior, there’s probably an underlying cause that can’t just be explained away as a “behavior problem.” This would be so scary as a parent, especially the suicidal thoughts in such a young child. I’m glad at least that videos like this can succeed in bringing some awareness.

I am a clinical social worker and specialize in OCD. We will occasionally get kids with PANDAS. Some insurances won't recognize the disorder and so won't pay for the very expensive treatment. Therefore, some families have to go without the treatment their child desperately needs or go into debt because the goal for insurance companies is to figure out ways to not have to pay for services.

Update on Alexia’s story: Alexia was successfully diagnosed with PANDAS. PANDAS is a disorder that causes the immune system to attack the brain whenever you get infections, leading to irrational, erratic behaviour (sometimes also physical symptoms such as seizures, but this didn’t happen in Alexia’s case), and is initially specifically triggered by strep bacteria. Source: kzbin.info/www/bejne/onixeWWalJ6Aja8 For a while, she got the right antibiotics which got her back to normal. But soon the antibiotics stopped working, so she’s now having other symptoms such as hallucinations, hearing voices, and suicidal thoughts.

I was like this as a kid. It terrifies me to think that I ever was this bad. I was dealing with a mother who had NPD as well as lashing out from meltdowns and sensory overload ( I am Autistic but only just discovered this at 28). A large factor in my bad behavior was dealing with my mother; she was cold, uncaring, and to this day puts her desires above the health and will being of her children. I feel for this little girl and I hope she gets the helps she needs. It often unfortunately is the parents that cause their kids to lash out. This little girl likely is not having all of her needs met.

And the worst part is in my opinion, people would expect the mother to be able to handle her because she is a special needs teacher, but the biggest difference is, after a hard day at work she could go home to her well-behaved, neurotypical children. She had a break. It is a completely different story when you are dealing with it 24/7. As someone who worked in a care facility who dealt with behaviors, it is unbelievably frustrating to handle destructive and violent behaviors and what gets me through those shifts with my head on straight was knowing I could go home and decompress. I feel sooo bad for that mother.

Antibiotics and vaccines cause or worsen the immune system. Now proven to mentally and emotionally caused cautious. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and medication "antibiotics" for recurrent urinary tract infections didn't help improve my body, but made it worst. I also worked in a special needs kindergarten class room and observed another little girl with same behaviors. She had been exposed to trauma by watching violent and disturbing tv shows and movies though that left her that way: psychiatric paranoid at 5yrs old too. God help the psychiatrist find better cures for those forgotten.

The behavior is alarming because you can easily tell that this isn't a personality issue. The first worry you have is a behavior altering medical issue (like a tumor or chemical imbalance). It doesn't always have to be a trauma that causes something like this. This is a case where you have to bypass the behavior to find the issue instead of being reactive to it.

And I was beaten with a belt but it never taught me good behavior or respect, it taught me fear and discipline and it definitely affected me negatively. There were even times where I didn't know why I was punished and expected to know but it was never explained to me. And stop bringing race into issues like this. Whenever I see the "[insert minority race] beat their kids" argument, it doesn't make me change my mind because, like I said before, all races have beaten their kids and second; all your argument does is tell me that minorities are abusive towards children. What kind of argument is that? Are you seriously trying to turn everyone into a racist with this?

My daughter had problems like this, violent tantrums that lasted hours. She has just graduated in a medical degree! I always supported her and love her very much, it was hard for years on the whole family and it has taken its toll on my mental health but I am very proud of her. The younger teenage years were the worst, but tantrums started very young. I think a lot of it had to do with high intelligence and frustration that her body would not do what her mind wanted it to do, simply because of age limitations.

i haven't watched the next part, but i'm on the verge of tears. i'm 14 years old, and when i was 5 years old i had strep throat, leading to a terrible infection that both me and my mom had. we had large pustules on our legs, and also on my face. my mom did not like taking western medicine so my mom put bandaids over the bumps and thought we'd be fine. 5 months later they never went away so she took me to the doctor and we got antibiotics. a few weeks later my behavior totally changed. watching this video, alexia mirrored me. i have never seen someone act the same as me. the past few months my parents and i decided i have autism, and im going to get tested soon. i'm going to watch the remaining parts to see if it was possible something else...

kly rand you know, all I said was discipline. Chill. U said abuse, I didn't. Read. Discipline can vary due to the types of parents. It can pretty much be giving a stern and strong command. Like I said, yes she needs help and I am glad she did, but also trying to set discipline (it doesn't have to be spanking. It's whatever works for the child) DOES help the child get a slight understanding of what's right and wrong. Also I advise you to not call someone ignorant and uneducated for a simple thought. It doesn't make you very worthy of respect when you're in an argument. If she did not have a mental issue, I would spank her. Abuse also means hitting your child regularly out of no reason. Spanking is something to teach the child of what is wrong. No u don't just spank them, but you explain and teach what is wrong. But every kid works differently. Are we done now?

+xxxtentacion, As someone who suffered from PANDAS myself, it is a structurally abnormality of the brain caused by the body attacking itself: the brain cannot "learn" like a normal brain can, thus any punishment will not register no matter how much you beat her, even a million times. I hope your first thought to solve a problem is not to beat up a child, and if it is, I hope you will pause and think about the lasting consequences of beating someone vulnerable.

this sounds like an extremely rare (possibly) autoimmune condition, pans/pandas, their symptoms fit this perfectly. when someone has strep, the immune system, instead of attacking the strep, it gets confused and starts to attack the body’s own cells, most specifically brain cells. there are medications to help with this condition, they should speak to their pediatrician.

Sure, my mom might have berated us excessively; but we make sure not to repeat that bad example to my nieces, nephews, and future kids. We even have national laws criminalizing child abuse. Child abuse isn't anything to be proud of, and should never be normalized. Stop the cycle of abuse!

My husband works 60-70 hours a week, and has to travel to different sites around the southeast. He calls his kids everyday, multiple times a day. He calls me to ask how I'm doing and ask about how the kids are, ask how it was getting them ready for school, did they eat breakfast ok, and after he gets back to the hotel he calls and talks to us all again. He plays online games with the older 2 before bed while talking with them on video chat. Friday night, he gets home as fast as he can, showers, and gives every second of his weekend to the kids. He even leaves 3am monday morning rather than sunday night (and stay in a hotel) because the kids want him there for bedtime. It irritates me that the dad's like "i don't have the time to talk to you everyday..." After watching Supernanny, i noticed dads often check out when kids behavior gets hard and they use their job as an excuse. You don't work so much that you don't have the time to know what's going on with your kids and to be a partner to your wife.

@@thevampire6065 you dont understand that your focused on things not being able to be treated, this is one that can be treated, you're focused on the wrong point, you need to look at the fact of what the child could do when he/she is older, or how the parents would deal with it. I said discipline is required in areas of purpose, meaning if the child does something on purpose, there needs to be a consequence, in order to teach the child to not do it anymore, im not talking about beating your child but some parents are just idiots and let their children do whatever they want, and its a bad example, for all families in the world that do let their children get away with it, because look what they would grow up to be.

When I was 13 I suffered from PANDAS. But, me and my family didnt know till this episode of 2020 came out. My neurologist couldn't figure out what was wrong and accused me of fracking for attention. My church thought I was possessed. Everyone thought I was faking or just crazy. I'm 20 now. Its went away as fast as it came on when I was 14. I rammed myself into walls as hard as i could after getting a running start over and over, i tried jumping out of my mothers car on the way home from a hospital, I'd pretend to be a Turkey, I tried setting my brother on fire, running out of the house at night when I was absolutely terrified of the dark. I remember everything, I could control nothing. I knew what I was doing was wrong. I endure painful seizures and would slam my head into my kitchen counters. And my doctor told my mother....."shes faking for attention" After all the time I spent thinking I was insane, to find out that I wasn't rendered me into a pile of sobbing human flesh just out of joy. That now the part of my life that traumatized me and my family now had a name. A cause. I want crazy, I didnt fake it. Strep throat was the beginning, I dont know what the end was, but all I care about is that ended. They cant control it, it's a dark place to be in and the misery of watching yourself traumatize your family stays with you forever.

Im a single dad of 10 year old girl who is just like this. I don’t have anyone else to help me deal with it. I work 6 nights a week on third shift. Some people don’t understand the nightmare. They don’t understand how hard it is when they get into these episodes and they just can’t seem to get themselves out. You try everything. Try staying calm, try holding or hugging, try raising your voice, try punishing, try incentivizing, etc. nothing works. Sometimes it’s over nothing. Sometimes I just need her to text her grandma quick to tell her we’re on the way. Sometimes she just needs to get dressed for school. Sometimes her phone isn’t charged. You have no idea what’s going to set them off, how long it’s going to last or how it’s gonna end. I’m so glad I’m not the only one because some days I feel so defeated. And also, my daughter is autistic and that’s why she is this way. It isn’t PANDAS.

The same situation happened to a friend in Venezuela, finally another friend recommended to take her to see a neurologist, they did a brain scan and found a small anomaly that was corrected by a medication that she took for 6 months and she became a normal child again.

It’s so lucky that she has such loving and supportive parents, one of them being a special needs teacher. Many kids like this are just labelled as brats and written off by their parents and teachers and locked away in institutions or care facilities for mentally unstable kids and kept on cocktails of medications to “zombify” them. I’m absolutely blown away by the sheer empathy and maturity in the family, the sister didn’t blame her and suspected something had happened to her brain and the mother even wondered if it was something she had done wrong. Many parents couldn’t even face considering the possibility of a child acting out somehow being due to their own wrongdoing! The world would be an infinitely better place if more people had the same maturity, kindness and empathy as Alexia’s family. Turns out she has PANS/PANDAS a condition that causes brain inflammation following a strep infection. Who knows how many other “naughty” kids out there are also suffering from a medical condition.

Doreen Aihi Farhall Oh wow you have the kind courage to say what I was thinking. Good on you!!! Early in the interview, there’s his input “working 50, 60 hours a week...don’t have time to talk an hour at a time about this...” 😯🙄🤔🤨 Paused the video to reply to your comment, but if it continues and we discover this could be helped, healed or at least not worsened by prompt medical treatment... I am going to freak exponentially. The mom has that look...that look one can’t explain except by clues like her daughter was trying to stab her in the eye with a mascara wand and her car seat rest is impeccable. Sensing pressures there. There’s Keep Calm and Carry On. Then there’s Keep Going Nothing To See Here. Awful.

@@ruffianoo yes, I feel sorry for both mother and daughter. I have a daughter too and she is my whole world. She just called me from her trip with her dad and she said, 'You know how they say, a mom makes a place a home? Well, this don't feel like a home because you are not here!' The bond between a mother and child is indescribable and to see these family like that really tears my heart.

BlackieChan KHD Ah, but you just manned up ( didn’t check your username, hope I do not offend you, this is a compliment), and gave an empathetic and compassionate response. When a spouse is rock-solid by their husband or wife, that solidarity means so much. But to carry this analogy a bit further, he comes across as stonewalling the situation. But who knows for sure? You did make me consider another point: Pretty near everybody does the best they can every day. A lot of families are stretching to their utmost pressure points, just, just, just trying, hoping and praying that they can make it happen, make it happen better! And I could see where some people would just say, “Right. This is not supposed to be the way of things. I am so worried sick and I am worried that my worry will show. Maybe I can “magic” this away by not paying it attention. I don’t know what else to do. “ I do see that possibility now, because of you sharing your reaction. Thanks!

@@NicosW0rld I had dreams when I was about 5 years old of extremely graphic things. One was like some sort of torture thing to where a guy was ripping skin off of another guy. I don't want to write down the rest because I'm nearly an adult now and it's still the most graphic and terrifying thing that anyone could have ever witnessed. I've never watched even a war documentary beforehand and had no concept of what death and pain actually was. It's not far off that a child at that age would know about suicide.

It's also not strictly the bacteria that go to your brain, but your immune response that triggers it. But you're right, she has PANDAs. Just a shame so many parents try to dismiss their autistic kids as having PANDAS and think antibiotics can "cure" them of being neurodivergent.

@@ambercason5100 PANDAS is absolutely a thing, even though it's still somewhat controversial (though it's an autoimmune disorder related to a bacterial infection, not a virus) and it stands for Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorder Associated with _Streptococcus_ - basically, it means that there is a reaction where the immune system, after fighting a _Strep_ infection (usually tonsillitis/throat infection, but it depends, as there are a number of illnesses that _Streptococcus_ can cause) that triggers neurological and psychiatric changes, such as anxiety, panic attacks, violent outbursts, hallucinations, tics, OCD etc. Sadly, a small minority of people in denial about their child's autism have glommed onto the diagnosis as an alternative explanation, but the two conditions are not the same, at all. But if you search for "PANDAS strep" you'll find plenty of info about it.

you don't deserve that and I am sorry you deal with that. when I was in my young teens I was really angry and sad all the time. begged my mom to take me to therapy but she never did. I did grow out of my anger, but I was sad for so long and had never learned how to deal with hard things, so I ended up doing some awful things for a few years. thankfully I'm sober and much better now. idk how old you are, but if you're under 18 there are therapists who will talk to you for free. call your local health department (if you're in USA), hopefully in other countries there are similar services. or talk to your school nurse or counselor, they can probably connect you with someone to talk to as well,

Y does everyone deny discipline. Even God disciplines. U hv to love yourself too (parents) not j others and by showing that u can help get the message across that the child is not a God to b worshipped at the cost of the safety or self of others and that the only option is to hv humanity towards others. Love is not hard to grasp for the child either. Being ill doesn't excuse anyone from being ruthless towards innocent loving beings (the parents) with no accountability.
