The Navy should have been there too, the rescue efforts were strictly private boats , people fighting the fire with garden hoses . This was a colossal failure on city , county ,state and federal agencies People pay taxes to have these agencies to protect them.

Questions to be answered in the Maui Conflagration: 1. Why were the alarm systems and emergency sirens not activated? 2. Where were the local government officials (the Governor, State officials, Mayors, council members, fire chiefs, police chiefs, emergency services staff) not around to coordinate strategies to control the fires or help residents evacuate to safer grounds? 3. Why were the entrance to and egress from Lahaina apparently closed during the conflagration? 4. If the US military has reportedly around 11 bases in Hawaii, including 2 Coast Guard bases, why were they not asked to assist in putting away the fire and/or assisting in evacuating the people to safer grounds or on board their ships or helicopters? 5. Why were FEMA personnel and police officers reportedly prevented people from safer grounds in Maui bringing in emergency supplies (food, groceries, blankets, clothes, and other basic necessities) for victims of the conflagration the following days? 6. There were reports that a few weeks before this conflagration happened, there were apparently a significant number of property owners that were approached by real estate and/or insurance people offering to buy their properties, which were refused by said property owners. 7. There were also reports that big real estate investors and developers had meetings with State & Local government officials about the possibility of building “Smart Cities” in Maui, and Lahaina in particular. Was the conflagration, which the State Governor quickly blamed on “climate change”, the quickest way to force the hapless homeowners, who inherited their properties from generation to generation, to sell their properties at a BARGAIN? We need answers to these questions that require intensive investigation by both State and Federal Authorities. There could be serious crimes committed here.

Growing up in Hawaii I was taught that the emergency sirens meant a tsunami was coming. The local government repurposed the use of sirens for a general disaster warning. However they failed to inform & educate the public of this change on how they would be using the sirens. The decision to not activate the sirens & educate the public prior to this disaster is probably the biggest blunder on Hawaii's local government

This shows how many people are victims when there is a tragedy like this. Yes, you hear about the people who lose their lives and that’s awful and the ultimate loss, but for every life loss there are hundreds more affected by fires, shootings, etc. It is so important for the people affected to get the help they need not only physically, like replacing homes, but mentally. My mother was a survivor of a workplace shooting in the 80s. She survived that day only to be killed slowly the next 15 years until the PTSD from that day finally claimed her. You won’t see her name on a list of victims anywhere, but if that shooting didn’t happen I would still have a mom, of that I’m sure.

Only 20 percent got evacuation notices, but we never lost the internet. Also many were at work or on vacation.

@Joe-ij6of Жыл бұрын
I think everyone on that island was informed their entire lives that the siren system = tsunami. If siren = tsunami then they head inland for hills/high ground. That would be exactly the wrong thing to do. Many people seemed to have survived by wading in the ocean along the shoreline, which fewer people would've done if they thought a tsunami was coming. Stupidity has nothing to do with it, and if you see smoke then you don't need an alarm to understand there is fire.

To be fair california government might have done the same thing, The head official said water was sacred and needed to be conserved. The same way Califorinia leadership leaves dead trees (forest fire fuel) in the forest because they don't want people cutting down trees, environmentalists cause environmental damage.

For decades, Maui residents have been fighting to preserve this ancient seat of the kingdom of Hawaii. Just last month, the Hawaiian government passed a law that the Lahaina historical area could not be redistricted for any more development of hotels and such businesses, unless a natural disaster occurred. What are the odds..?

I just watched a interview with a elderly gentleman named Fish, he was shopping at the Safeway and began to walk telling people to get out. He said he was walking beside the people waiting in their cars to leave, he couldn’t figure out why they weren’t moving. When he got to the front of all the cars there was a police man, he told him to let them leave the fire was already at the Safeway. Cop said he couldn’t, he was just following orders, old guy said he started hearing cars explode, cop wouldn’t let them through.

The response to this tragedy, as follows any disaster - whether natural or man-made - is indicative of the compassion and empathy, most humans display toward those in need. Our society tells us that money, prestige, and power, are what should make for a 'happy' populace, but when it comes down to basic, common, heart-felt meaning; 'happiness' is truly found in helping others. I'm sure the cause of this horrendous fire, who or what is to blame (which was probably a combination of factors), will be found in the days and weeks to follow. But beyond the deep sorrow felt by those who lost friends, families, and homes, or who witnessed the horrors - I find the instinctive reaction in those who rush to help a stranger, even at their own risk, to be 'heroes' in the truest, most human sense.

Sirens are _primarily_ for tsunamis, but they for other things as well... like fires. I think the average person would have put two and two together and evacuated _away from_ the fire. The idea someone would walk _into_ a fire cuz they misunderstood what the siren was for is absurd.
@eskieman3948 Жыл бұрын
NO - you are DEAD WRONG on the siren use. When the people hear a tsunami siren, do you know what they are instructed to do? Run like hell for the high ground towards the hills. Do you know where the wildfires were coming from? The hills, and going towards the people.
@jackiepaper101 Жыл бұрын

@eskieman3948 I'm sure they would have seen said fire coming down the hill, it was also nighttime and would have been clearly seen! It's the government's fault for not telling the public that they had changed the sirens purpose to indicate an emergency, not just a Tsunami.

It's been going on for ages. I've been studying WW1 intensely during the last couple of years, the elite have always been sacrificing their slaves. Sending soldiers into battles with absolutely no gain to be expected whatsoever, on both sides. Google Battle of the Somme. Casualities of 60000, 20000 dead, the first day alone, on the british side....imagine....A human life counts nothing in the eyes of the so called "leaders". People keep wondering how in Nazi Germany, the entire population could blindly follow Hitler, even when things had already turned very bad for everyone. But today, people still support a system that doesnt give a damn about them. Covid, another example of the complacency of the average citizen who is either too dumb or too lazy to make an informed decision. This will go on if people don't finish this elite off. Which will not be possible by the means of politics and debate.

As a Hawaii resident, we pay taxes for these agencies to operate and have a plan to protect us. This is like living in the 1600’s without power or working fire hydrants. Hawaii wants a refund.
