I took 4 courses at the University of Phoenix and had: 98%, 97%, 96%, 98%. This is unbelievable. I'm smart but those marks are simply not realistic. I transferred to a "real" university where I had to go and sit in a classroom. I thought I was pretty bright until a "real" professor straightened me out LOL. My 1st paper had as much red ink as black. I studied my butt off and graduated with a 3.68 GPA and have a real degree to show for it. Those schools should be illegal.

Sometimes first generation college-bound students just don't know because they don't have informed people in their family or social circle from whom they can seek out sound advice. Keep in mind that this woman isn't a high school senior with the luxury of having a daily guidance counselor to help her map out her post-secondary education plans. Of course, she could have hopped on google, but she also had these shady, convincing-sounding recruiters feeding her conflicting information. In the face of contradictory information, folks who lack the resources can't necessarily distinguish accurate advice from hogwash.

I met with a UoP recruiter back when I was active duty Marines and living in SoCal. My first impression right off the bat wasn't a good one; their campus looked more like an office building and you'd never guess it was a college. The recruiter was more like a salesman and kept pressuring me to sign up that day, but I told them I'd think about it. For the next week they called every day to pester me and it got to the point where I told them to stop calling and I wasn't interested. So glad my common sense kicked in.
@GodKing6669 жыл бұрын
1. Your credits are most likely NOT transferable. 2. Regional Accreditation (Harvard, UCLA, UOP...etc.) is better than National Accreditation (ITT, Everest, DeVry...etc.). 3. The Recruiters job depends on your enrolling. 4. They call relentlessly because they're told to call at least 3 times a day, until they reach you. 5. Remember, in the Admissions Department, you are a number. 6. Recruiters are still taught to dig for pain. And will use the death of a loved one, if they have to. 7. You are more than likely paying, double or triple the tuition of other schools. 8. STOP HANGING UP, when they call, like a child. Take their name, schools name, number with extension and email. Then ask to be placed on the "do not call" list. Also send an email confirmation of your call and reiterate the "do not call" request. 9. Remember the Admissions Department is really the sales department. They are no different than a Chevy Dealer. Your enrollment helps them maintain their job. You are one of maybe 10,15,20+ students, they've been made to recruit before the start. And that goal is aggressively sought after. So when that happens, remember #8. 10. When on job sites, watch where you put you info. You'll accidentally fill out a school form which seems like a application. IT IS NOT! That's how they get your info and you didn't realize. You have to scroll up or down and find the "skip" or "no thank you" button. Which is usually grayed out. You are the low level leads these schools get. And if this happens, again refer to #8. These schools pay halfway decent wages to be be salesmen. Especially if you don't have a degree. But the turnover rate is incredible! These recruiters usually have some angry idiot screaming down their necks, who's being screamed at for more numbers. And the owners in turn are disconnected from reality and are only profit driven. The students in these schools are usually degenerates, ex-cons, current hustlers, rapists and some murderers. Be careful. Do research. Don't do For-Profit. - current shamed employee of a for-profit

I'm an undergraduate at a major research university. I believe that, while the internet is a valuable tool for education, it can never fully replace brick and mortar universities and schools. Why do I think this way? Because there is only so much the internet can do. Why can the internet replace newspapers and libraries? Because those two media are sources of information and nothing else to those who use them. The internet can provide that information much more efficiently and effectively than either of those two sources, so they have fallen by the wayside. Then why can't the internet replace colleges and universities? Because colleges and universities do more than just provide information. They also provide real hands-on experience and are Americans primary laboratories for scientific research. I'm going to join a grad students research team next year and will get valuable experience in my field that will aid me in the future. Students at these major universities do more than just sit in class. They also participate in undergraduate research, co-ops, internships, and so many experiences that you simply can't get online. Trusting someone who only got their degree online with a job is like asking someone to swim after only reading a book on how to swim. Besides, the biggest complaint about universities is that students are often put in lecture halls of over 100 students and thus never get one-on-one time with their professors. Do you really think the best way to solve that problem is to replace physical lecture halls of 200 students with virtual lecture halls of 20 thousand?
@natemotivation85236 жыл бұрын
Christopher G I agree. But, if your a serious online student, and the school is of quality and accredited, you can maximize your growth on the same level of that of a brick and mortar school. You have to work harder online and that's a fact. I have degrees from a brick and mortar school, and now go to an online college. I've seen both sides.
@tincredible6 жыл бұрын
I agree. I graduated from brick and mortar institutions and have never taken a substantive course online. In fact, I only had one class that was partially online. It was a remote internship that required us check in with the professor once a week and chronicle our work experiences. When I applied to law school, I needed several letters of recommendations from professors. It helped that my professors actually knew me as a HUMAN BEING. They knew me beyond the marks that I made in their courses. I'd gone to their offices and interacted with them. They knew my personality, work ethic, attitude, and dedication. This allowed them to write glowing recommendations for me. They were able to personally attest to my both my academic strengthens and character, and subsequently illustrate why I'd make a good law student. I'm not sure if they would have been able to write anything beyond a generic recommendation if they'd only known me through emails, assignments, test/quiz scores. The human touch is so important to education. As you said, a student's education extends beyond the mere receipt of information.
@beautyintheskies4 жыл бұрын
I go to a fully accredited online university and I like it much more than traditional university because it allows me more flexibility in my scheduling. I think it is kind of elitist to say that brick-and-mortar schools are better. Many people have kids, families, jobs and don’t have the time to drive to a campus, sit down, listen to a lecture, pack up, and drive back home. All that takes time that you could spend studying, reading and doing your assignments. It can be more time-efficient.

You as the student need to understand that its your money, and you get what you put into it. If you think anyone is going to hold your hand through the process, and baby you then give you a job, you will be sadly mistaken. If youre a go getter and know what it will take to get into your field, the exact requirements they are looking for, and have a drive, then you can go to UOP or any for profit college, and do well and find employment afterwards. The instructors are not qualified nor experienced in the fields that they teach. You're using outdated equipment and learning outdated skills. You're not really learning anything. You feel cheated and lied to. They lured you in under false pretenses. You decide to drop out. Even if you finish the course and get a so-called "degree," no company will hire you. Instead of blaming the for-profit school, why not look at it from the employer's perspective. Did she really think she would get a job that easy, especially in the education field? In this competitive job market that we are currently in, do you think an A.A. degree will get you your dream job? Instead, why not transfer those units to another college and get a B.S. degree maybe even a Masters degree? Maybe then you'll have a better chance at your dream job.

Incorrect. She was sold vocational training to become a teacher that did not meet the minimum requirements to teach in Illinois.

***** Right, there are plenty of people that were lied to, and that's where false advertisement comes in. If the recruiter told the truth she could have made a decision based on their honesty. That could've resulted in her either pursuing the required education, or walking away.

Have you heard of any of these schools? They are not accredited and you can not transfer the credits to a normal university.

+teddy black I took Phoenix Classes while in the Army and deployed. Except for 1 class all my credits from my AA transferred to a California University. Phoenix is Regionally Accredited. Get facts before making outrageous statements like "They are not accredited and you can not transfer the credits to a normal university."

Funny, Kris. In 2015, the U.S. Department of Defense withdrew support from University of Phoenix after a 2014 investigation into the university and parent company's records was launched to shed light on finances and recruitment practices. Your anecdote means absolutely nothing.

I'm left holding the bag for a nonprofit in Kentucky. I was screwed our of a crap load. I feel for the staff and faculty there who really care. And especially for the students they scammed.

For profit schools is a great idea, but take away the easy loans, and the shitty schools (most of them) would crumple up quickly.

You wanna give back to the kids? Um I hope you don't give them your horrible skills in making choices.

If you want to be a teacher, go to a traditional four-year college or university instead. Employers won't even hire graduates of these for-profit trade schools and colleges.

She was not smart enough! WHO WOULD THINK GETTING A BACHELOR DEGREE IN BASKET WHEVING, MAKE YOU THINK YOU CAN BECOME A TEACHER at a elementary school. . I'm glad she isn't a teacher for children for public schools . Maybe use that degree at a boy or girl scouts and teach them how to make baskets. Lol common sense I don't think she has

In all fairness, in Community college, once you get our of those prereq courses and into your Major classes, all the self entitled 18 year olds and what not are weeded out by then and do not usually make it to that point. Only the folks that were serious about there education are left... well mostly, one or two seem to squeek by xD

So because people chose not to check out state requirements that's the schools fault? Nope, don't think so. It works like this: Get the degree, get the credentials, start from scratch like everybody else. Don't blame the school for your own lacking in education.

Oh and he stated that money is the reason why schools do not accept credits from these schools, which is false and it is good that credits from places like Phoenix are not accepted.Again not saying everything is perfect,but to make a general statement like college is a scam is nonsense.

I actually ended up with a good job after getting my scam college degree. I'm one of the lucky ones. I don't think anyone else from my class did anything with their degree however. That chick that wasted 2 years of her life and still couldn't get a job as a teacher should sue that school, if she hasn't already.
