I've volunteered with them twice (once inside the prison, once outside for low-level offenders) and it's truly such a remarkable organization. Yes, it's for the kids, but the dads are treated with deep dignity and respect- they're not known by their wrongdoings but as their identities as human beings and fathers. It's a weird and humbling dynamic and I wish more people had the opportunity to experience this group's mission.
@brandonizaguirre29633 жыл бұрын
@@annasloan2472 Yeah, and I bet you also treat r@pists and murderers as decent human beings just because they have children and you ignore what they did in the first place, huh? These criminals wouldn't be criminals if they just didn't commit crime. They have no one to blame but themselves. I have zero sympathy for them.
@omgubler3 жыл бұрын
@@brandonizaguirre2963 wow, what the hell man. It's never as simple as that and you should know it. Also, I'm pretty sure there's an extremely heavy screening processes for the prisoners/fathers that get to participate. I'm sure they have to have impeccably good behavior to earn the opportunity and much more. Every case is unique. The father who was a murderer was in a bar fight. It was probably an unintentional murder. Still murder, yes, but it was probably something like involuntary manslaughter. (alcohol + bar fights don't go good together). A rapist would be unlikely to participate in something like this that, again, is FOR THE KIDS more than anything else. Hopefully you at least have sympathy for the children.

This not only helps the children, but it also helps the prisoners. They get to feel love. They get to feel human. You can't lock people up and expect them to retain their humanity. They need to have the chance to feel that. THAT is what will help them reintegrate into society when they get out.

@@ThatGreenCrystal That greatly depends on the level of security the inmates require. My dad served time in a high security prison, which more so resemble prisons in the US. When he was later transferred to a low security prison he got decent meals, got to watch TV, his kids and wife could visit, we could even apply for a certain amount of time where he got to spend time with us outside of prison, like a 24 hour period (sometimes less, sometimes more). He was also allowed to get a job and work if he was monitored by either an ankle monitor or someone who worked in the prison. He wasn’t considered a flight risk or a threat to himself or others so he was given more leniency there than if he had stayed in the high security and clearly wasn’t trustworthy.

Agreed. It seems obvious to us that they'll know that they're hurting them by going to prison .. but maybe, they have to SEE it first hand & spent those moments bonding to really understand that they're actions are hurting the ones they love the most. ❤️ Maybe, this will be an eye opener for them to not go back. For their kids. I wish this program was everywhere. It's truly incredible.

as someone whos dad was in prison, i can tell and feel how much they really love and care about their children, my dad never cared enough to see me, he would call me once every now and then to tell me not to come see him but im so happy that these young children get to have this relationship with their father.

This program needs to be in every prison. Breaks my heart. Yes, children are the silent victims and they need their fathers and their fathers need them. Just because a man’s incarcerated doesn’t mean his ability to love and parent his kids stops. It doesn’t mean that he is not a good parent. These types of programs benefit both parent and child and helps to foster self-worth and attachment.
@jlinaanon37925 жыл бұрын
I absolutely agree with you on that. My ex husband has been in jail for almost a year now and it breaks my heart that my daughter is the one who showed me this video. I'm heartbroken right now and there's nothing I can do to help her. My fiance passed away from brain cancer 2 weeks before her father was arrested and she was just as close to him as she is with her father so she has been through so much. Unfortunately the jail doesn't allow any contact other than video chat or phone calls which cost more for 10 minutes than most people where we live make per hour. The children involved are the ones who are suffering the most and I hope that more facilities will have programs like this one available to help the children not punish them too.

The government should fund programs like this in every prison. This is so important and shouldn't be up to a charity with limited resources.

they already put more money into the prison system than they do into the education system so no. No wonder we have the biggest prisoner population, we arent getting a proper education

@@OrionDawn15 yea but have you ever been to the public schools in new york? or in philadelphia? I feel like if the students didnt go to a dirty ass school with $50 chromebooks and terrible teachers then they would be more likely to be successful in the future and not be out in the streets after graduating.
