He says Marjorie Taylor Green intentionally delayed his release. See his interview with CNN. ABC didn’t cover that in this clip, if at all.

Trevor Reed is the perfect example of American parents and the American Marine Corps turning out incredible citizens and soldiers. What Russia turns out are obedient mall shoppers, ill-trained cowardly military personnel, willing to commit war crimes at the drop of a hat, craven goons running prisons and all conveniently stripped of the human courage it would take to bring about change. Trevor Reed's courage and moral strength are the hope and fiber of our democracy and freedom.

@@mesi9018 Trevor Reed is not from the Vietnam War generation. This is now. This is today. And, yes, the My Lai massacre was a war crime. Richard Nixon was as indiscriminate and vicious as Putin, when it came to bombing. We, however, had protests against the war, which the Russian people either seem incapable, indifferent, or lacking in courage. And the war crimes being committed in Ukraine are being sanctioned from Putin on down. This was not the case in Vietnam. And none of that takes away from Trevor Reeds courage. My Lai was addressed by military courts. It was discovered that other massacres had occurred, but none represented the behavior of the majority of soldiers sent to Vietnam. Richard Nixon resigned for other reasons, but resign in disgrace he did. We as a nation do not sanction war crimes. What you have in Russia is the blanket approval of war crimes from the Putin right on down to the average soldier, with no accountability from the Kremlin the Russian, military leaders, the Orthodox church ... run by a former KGB agent ... and the Russian people, who wouldn't know a protest from a May Day Parade. Trevor Reed is his own case for courage and moral strength. So, if we're going to bring up Vietnam and My Lai ... lets not forget John McCain and his courage and moral strength. The Cleveland Plain Dealer broke the story of My Lai ... we wait patiently for a Russian paper to brake the multiple stories and instances of war crimes committed by poorly trained soldiers and their pitiful excuses for generals. We wait. But, we won't hold our breath.

They are fighting war that was effectively over on the 3rd day after it started. The silly Americans soak it up like a sponge you pathetic morons. I wish you all would stop ignoring the political prisoners taken in Oregon. I spent 6 months in jail on false charges in Polk County and the crimes my ex-wife committed were swept under the rug by Judge Sally Avera. Then attorney and judge Pro Tem Jon Weiner and associate Katherine Trottman entered a guilty plea on my behalf in spite of my objections. Then a deputy attacked me in the courthouse in Marion County and it took 2 years to get the charges dismissed. Those charges were false and designed to cover up the deputy's horrid behavior. This needs to stop but you wont do these stories.

If they go ahead and give someone for Paul Whelan, then won't Russia just put someone else in prison, justly or not, to get more? What if you were that person that Russia arbitrarily put in prison? Would you think that it was a good idea for Reed and Whelan to have been swapped, knowing that that's why you are now in prison?

Reed may have been arrested for his behavior if it had happened in the US. He probably wouldn't have been sentenced to nine years here, but laws are different in other countries and Americans need to keep that in mind when they travel. Being drunk in public and then grabbing the arm of a police officer driving him to the police station, possibly causing an accident, would have been a crime here, too. Americans in other countries always act so innocent when caught breaking the law where they are. Don't get drunk in another country. Don't fight with police. Don't expect to be treated differently because you're American--it does not absolve you from fault. I'm glad Reed is free and home again, but I'm not interested in his story of the innocent American taken advantage of by a foreign government. If he hadn't gotten drunk and caused a problem, none of this would have happened to him.
