My God, what an inspirational story... That absolutely gave me goose bumps. As a life long Richmond member it gives you such pride that they not only had the courage to give such a great guy the opportunity to redeem himself but had the strength to stand by him. To Marlion's credit he took the chance and now look where he is. An absolute icon of the community and proof that there is hope for everyone. I wish him and his great family every success and health. Thanks to the Australian Story for producing a piece that uplifts the spirit of anyone who watches. In times like these it's great to see such heartfelt, real content.

Shows footy is just so much more than a game, it’s the glue that binds us all together regardless of race, background, etc etc. As a long time Tiger member (3121) I am just so proud of my footy club for making a difference. The selection of Marlion in the 2019 Premiership Team must go down as one of the most courageous selections ever, is one thing talking the talk, but walking the walk is what Dimma and his colleagues did. They had he courage of their convictions on the big stage with the most to lose. Brilliant stuff!!!! And I love my footy club💛🖤

@@lonewolf6364 It's not about if it works. It's about giving people a chance. Remembering that drug addiction is mental health we should always give people with mental health a second chance... or a first chance. I was a patient at the same hospital as Ben Cousins when I had depression, but not at the same time. While there the media caught wind that Ben Cousins might be trying rehab again there were 30+ reporters at the front of the hospital waiting.. .just in case. No hope of recovery with that. Not saying that Cousins is the ideal candidate for giving a second chance, if there are limited spots, but it's good that they did. Even if it didn't end with a feel good story. The world isn't feel good stories.
@lonewolf63644 жыл бұрын
Adrian Julz firstly I appreciate you taking the time to respond in a decent and respectful manner. Secondly I hope you are doing well these days and have found a way to beat the "black dog" and manage the roller coaster of emotions and feelings that is depression. However, I disagree with one thing. Illict substance abuse, may cause mental health issues as a result of such abuse, but is not a mental health issue initially. - which is how I read your response about Ben using amphet and cocaine. He gave himself the mental health issues by virtue of using a large amount of illicit substances. That is entirely different that someone who has depression or a mental health issue due to a traumatic event or a chemical imbalance in the brain (such as alrered seratonin levels). Equally as devastating yes, but he entirely brough that on himself, due to poor life choices.
@markferrari89554 жыл бұрын
Lone Wolf every mistake you me us make is a poor life choice, are you therefore saying no one deserves a second chance.
@lonewolf63644 жыл бұрын
Mark Ferrari re read what I wrote mate. I stated the direct correlation to mental health, in his instance was self administering illicit substances, versus someone who has experienced a traumatic event/born with lower seratonin levels, etc. My direct point being, whilst I agree the MH issues are terrible, he entirely did that to himself with horrendous poor life choices and illicit subsance abuse. I just wish those with MH issues that are not brought on by such life choices, had the same access and same level of support and "chances" he received..

I bet the other clubs that snubbed him looked and saw his performance on GF day must’ve been pinching themselves so hard of how spectacular Marlon was on the field. I’ve been a Richmond supporter since I went to my first AFL game in 1996? When Boomer Harvey debuted, I was 13 then & since then I hoped we would win a GF & I’ve waited 20yrs until 2017 & I cried. 2018 season was horrible but 2019 couldn’t have come any sweater. We had setbacks but we managed and bringing Marlon on board the 22 train was a gutsy move by our selectors and it paid off. Marlon’s a quiet super star, silent assassin if you will on the field. He gave us the boast we need to win our 2nd in 3 yrs. love yah mate, 2020 let’s get it going!

That's a load of crap to say he was just trying to make money for his family. Aboriginals get more hand-outs than anyone. If he needed help, it was there. He just wanted the quickest way to get cash. He's done very well to get himself on the right track, but his criminal past is completely on him.
