Returning to Australia, he struggled to adjust to life outside professional sport but eventually found purpose again as an assistant coach with the Australian national team, the Boomers.

I had season tickets for the 95 season .. I was also really sick and going through chemo for the first time .. I had got to the point where I thought my time had come and was confined to a wheelchair .. still I made every home game traveling from Springfield , Illinois ( downstate ) ... Every now and then some of the players would give me a nod or a thumbs up ... except for Luc .. EVERY single game he came over and talked to me , asked how I was doing and if I needed anything .. this wasn't a few seconds canned convo .. He really cared about what was going on with me .. I never had the chance to tell him thanks but Luc if your reading this please know ... it meant the world to me and as you can see .. I made it :) .. Thanks again

100 percent. Ppl think it was Jordan, Scottie and a bunch of ppl just making up numbers. Luc was one of the most agile and intelligent big men in the L then, incredible passer for a 5, Kukoc was one of the purest shooters in the L, BJ was an exceptional PG, Grant was an elite defender. A very complete team, and Jordan would have the same amount of rings as Reggie Miller if it wasn't for his team mates and coaches. Simple facts.

Kukoc is Croatian as me. He was at the time European MVP,won everything in Europe as a main role player as MJ was in NBA. Shot,threes,assists,driblle,playmaking,everything except no.5. Real team player. But in NBA they weighted him and put him on the bench.

Thats a 100% fact. Was born in 82' and was in elementary school watching the bulls dominate. I vividly remember Luc to this day banging in the paint like an absolute monster with impossible coordination at 7'2" lol. MJ was who i tried to emulate shooting and ill remember Luc till the day i die.

Yes - great observation Ven. This chapter is a more complete telling of Luc's story than would have happened in the original documentary. And the additional interviews with Scottie Pippen, Phil Jackson, Steve Kerr, and MJ add a lot, and would not have happened if Luc hadn't been mostly left out of TLD.

Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls franchise should have included Luc Longley and his story into the original series in the first place. Luc deserves a bit of recognition and for them to shoe horn a series exclusively for him after the initial series aired. They have the funding and facilities to get Luc's side of the story as well. This documentary made me cry. I grew up watching the Bulls. I always loved Luc and to see his struggles in life and basketball I can really relate. I played basketball several times a week and blew my knee out when I was 38 years old. It changed my life. I couldn’t play the game I loved so much after the injury and I couldn’t find my purpose. I really identified with Luc there and to see him being hurt about being left off The Last Dance made me feel bad for him. But Michael Jordan giving that interview about Luc was VERY kind and I’m sure made him feel better. Enjoy your quiet life and your family! MUCH LOVE LUC ❤️

I was extremely fortunate to sit next to Luc on a 2 hour flight just at the end of his career. As a Chicagoan, I recognized him immediately and we began to talk. He could have been a bit grumpy because his flight was cancelled and he had to take a middle seat, not in first class (super extended legroom though), his ankles were giving him problems and it was the end of his career, but instead he was completely upbeat and just a happy person inside. We had a great conversation, talking many of the topics in this doc, and I can say confidently that Luc is a great guy and a great human being. His sense of humor is even better than we get to see in the documentary, though the bit about the Russian dolls gives a glimpse. He would be a great friend. Easy to see (in retrospect) why he fit chemistry-wise with the Bulls, along with Steve Kerr, Judd Buechler, and the other non-big 3.

As an avid Bulls fan, Phil Jackson , & that whole 90,s dynasty, I was very pleased with “The Last Dance”. And now having seen this, am almost glad Luc was left out, though clearly he deserved the acalades. Perhaps had he not been left out, we would not have gotten to see this exclusive glimpse of this gentle giant. This is very heartwarming. Not only do I appreciate his basketball talent that contributed to 3 of the Bulls 6 titles, but now I appreciate the man, and this glimpse of his unique and humble heart. Thank you for this documentary, and yes it very much warrants being an episode of “The Last Dance”.

I was thrilled when I heard we had gotten him in 1995 and felt both he and Wennington flanked by Parish, Buddah, Salley and others were a fine bunch at center. Suitable replacements for Cartwright.

I was born in 87 & I’m a diehard Knicks fan from NY.. I hope Luc realizes how well known he was to kids growing up in the 90’s.. Everybody in my class (even kids who just knew the Bulls because it was cool, like the Cowboys back then) knew Luc Longley was the Starting Center for the Bulls. He was a household name around the country for sports fans. As much as I hated the Bulls growing up, I respect the hell out of them now..

Having a calm , caring presence on the team was a great counter weight to the overwhelming pressure MJ put on EVERYONE. @@Dallazification So, it's funny. I've been watching MJ since I was a kid and have observed the marketing of MJ for years as an adult. At this point, I'm so immunized to MJ propaganda that my mind just sort of filters it out. It will almost be like I didn't even see it. I watched the whole _The Last Dance_ series. But I started to realize that I often could barely remember what was in it. 1) Because a lot of it was just repackaged old information. And 2) because I know the true and/or whole story behind the things in the doc, so I was fully aware that the doc is propaganda and misrepresenting events, therefore my mind just filtered a lot of it out as I watched. So it didn't change my opinion of MJ at all basketballwise. But one thing I did learn from the doc is how funny Jordan is. I didn't know that about him. I've heard Jordan call himself funny before and seen a couple of comical quotes, but that was about it. MJ says he doesn't show his humor in public for fear that he might say something that would hurt his marketing. But the dude is apparently hilarious.

From your comment, I'm wondering if it is similar to mine. You say you know the true story behind the events in the documentary, if you don't mind, would you share that with me? I'm also wondering if what you know is what I've suspected. I watched the NBA back then, but not every game, every team, I was sort of a casual fan, with a favorite player, and usually rooting for underdogs, or just a good game. LOL But I did follow enough, and do enough research, looking up videos and statistics to form my own opinions, if that makes sense. The more I find out, the more I think my opinions are mostly correct. But I am always willing to learn more. If you decide to answer my questions, I appreciate it very much, if not, I understand, life can be busy.

​@@mattlenox4361 It would be hard to cite a specific example of knowing the whole story from _The Last Dance_ since I remember so little of it. But if I recall correctly, the doc says Jordan started weight training to get extra muscle to deal with the Bad Boy Pistons' hard fouls, and suggests this is what allowed him to beat them in 1991. But that's not even close to the full story. The real story is that Jordan threatened to retire if the Pistons beat his team again, then the league literally changed it's rules that year so the Pistons couldn't play that style anymore. The Pistons were also so old and decimated with injuries that they would have lost anyway, but the officiating was egregiously lopsided to favor Jordan's team just to make it worse. The league basically removed the Bad Boy Pistons and sent a message. To make it seem like it was because Jordan lifted weights is laughable. That's the kind of stuff I mean. Jordan was the first of his kind marketingwise and the NBA made sure to capitalize off him to the fullest. He was always put in the best position and promoted as a superhero as much(if not moreso) than a basketball player. He was certainly a great player, but he was a marketing phenomenon the likes of which had never been seen before and probably isn't possible to replicate again under today's conditions.

U gotta remember the documentary was published during Covid n Luke was all the way in Australia n probably not connected nor as he says wanted to even be around Basketball anymore. Everyone else that was in the Documentary was in the US. Now if Luke was loving in the US n was still connected with the guys in sure he would have been in the series but he wasn't even around. What I don't get was the fact he wasn't even contacted at least.

Yah it does, cuz they only featured Mike, Scotty, and Rodman, plus some coaches/executives. They would have first told us a lot more about Horace Grant, Paxton and BJ Armstrong before they ever got around to talking about Luc Longley. And none of what you said about Longley is true as far as his fame. He was known as a minor figure on the Chicago Bulls, absolutely no one knew him before he joined the Bulls, and he was probably the 8th or 9th best known player on that Bulls team. His stats are actually surprisingly good, for how little attention was paid to him during the second Bulls run of championships.....if you're from Australia, you know him. If you're an American who watched Michael in the 90s, you just think of Luc as another one of those tall centers they had like Cartwright, until maybe you research his stats and find out he was a little better than you remember.

Got to the end part where Luc was a little miffed about not getting any play in the docu....well he must have known since he wasn't interviewed there wasn't going to be much, but yah, ideally the docu would have had more info on more players, you're right about that part of it. They heavily focused on Mike, and then there was a bit on Scotty and Rodman, the main stars of the Last Dance season of 98. This was the Mike Jordan version of the Bulls years, the greatest player who's ever existed.

The only thing I can respond to about this is that they probably only had so many segments they were to. Jordan was apologetic. The producers focused on the most popular players and unfortunately guys like Luke Longley were the ones who were booted. But thank God they kept this footage so we can finally enjoy it. I'm the same age as luc, I remember watching those games religiously! And I've been a bulls fan since '92 , during the the 1992 championship series against Portland! I remember the bulls winning a game and thinking they won the championship, then wondering why they had to play another game until I figured out it was a series and not one game! That shows you my knowledge of professional sports at that time! Didn't take long for me to figure it all out! At the time music was my only release and heavy metal was my favorite, but then grunge took over and I had to find something else to get my "jollys" off! Seems like a lifetime ago!

Same here. They should have mentioned Longley. Also they way they portrayed Toni Kukoc was misleading for people that actually did not closely follow the team back then. Btw he was also not mentioned a single time in this Longley doc, but he was constantly on the photos and video clips...doesn't matter here as it is really about Longley only. Kukoc's role and importance was bigger than what it was portrayed in the LAst Dance. They mainly talked about the entire tensity between him and Pippen+MJ before he joined the team. Instead they made Kerr look bigger than what he was. No disrespect to Kerr, but he says it himself. He is nowadays famous for being the Warriors coach. Much more known than he ever was as a player. So the producers used that to entertain the younger crowd. Kukoc and Longley are probably the "weird" foreigners and too laid back. The producers didn't find them entertaining enough in comparison to Kerr who is a great story teller and famous nowadays. So parts of the Last Dance are really misleading if you use it as your main information source, meaning you did not witness those years yourself back in the days.

Luc was far better than he got credit for certainly better than Will Purdue, Stacey King, and Brad Sellers who Jerry Reinsdorf and Joe Krause brought in to try and replace the aging Bill Cartwright. It took a few years but Luc grew into a solid center. He couldn't compete against some of the better ones like Shaq or Olajuwan, but against the lesser centers he held his own. He basically owned Seattle in that finals series.

Stacey king should have been a premier center in the league for years. He was originally projected to go #1 in the 1989 draft but dropped a tad to #6. He had a good college career but when he hit the NBA he regressed completely and disappeared. Probably one of the biggest wasted picks of that decade and it wasn’t the bulls fault either.

I'm from ABQ. Luc Longley is a legend in that town. He always played a huge part of the community. He held my brother up to dunk a ball one day visiting with special needs kids. Luc and Brian Urlacher are 2 of the greatest Lobos of all time. The love we still have for him is well deserved. He played so well in the absence of Pip. 98 was Luc's greatest season. I've been in Albuquerque, New Mexico my whole life, and I can say I was lucky enough to see Luc play with the Lobos at The Pit his entire college career. He was extraordinary as a basketball player, and I identified with his demeanor, being laid-back and relaxed. Plus, we're pretty close in age to each other. That was my attitude toward life too. When he was traded to the Bulls, at the time, MJ was my favorite player, having followed his career at UNC for the two years he was there, and being picked third in the NBA draft, I was really excited to watch what Luc might do to help the team after MJ came back from his stint in baseball. No one can ever take away what Luc did for that team. I was proud to be a Bulls fan, and a Lobos fan before that...and a big reason for that was Luc!

What a great documentary. Great to finally hear his whole story. I entered The University of New Mexico as a freshman the same year as he did. Was at all the home games he played. It was a great time. I always was a fan of his and thought it was cool that a guy from UNM got to play with the Bulls and win championships. He inspired an interest in Australia and I’ve been fortunate enough to have visited Perth and Fremantle. Happy to see that he has found happiness and his place in the world. Cheers, mate.

So awesome to see luc longley again,i grew up a bulls fan.i think everyone in my home country was a bulls fan at that time.(El 🇸🇻Salvador)and to finally been recognized for your contribution to that great team,well deserved. Amazing documentary
