Kylie Moore-Gilbert and Sami Shah on love after betrayal | Australian Story

When broadcaster and comedian Sami Shah met academic Kylie Moore-Gilbert through a dating app, they were both piecing their lives back together.
She was coming to terms with her recent release from an Iranian prison and the discovery her husband had left her for one of her colleagues while she was in detention.
He was recovering from being dumped from his ABC Melbourne radio show and the collapse of his second marriage.
Thrown together by Melbourne’s long Covid lockdown, they both had to learn to trust again. But love blossomed and they recently celebrated the birth of a baby girl.

Kylie Moore-Gilbert's book The Uncaged Sky is an important read that perhaps gives some clues as to her extraordinary forbearance.. such as continuing a relationship after his initial dreadful gaffe!. I imagine hearing a comment like that could have sent her into disocciation for the rest of that date. I wish this documentary had explored more from her how she dealt with that.

I generally visit Melbourne once a year and remember in 2020 being so disappointed not to hear Sami Shah hosting the breakfast slot anymore. He was the perfect heir to Red Symons. He and his first wife must have something very special about them because they raised Anya to be so wise, mature and open.
