That, my friend, is a hurdy gurdy. This song is literally everyone's first folk metal song. You are absolutely spot on the melodic death metal part. They do fix Celtic folk metal with melodic death metal. You're getting better at recognizing genres. Proud of you. I heard this when I was 14 or 15. You should do more folk metal and there are three great bands in F you should check out: Finntroll - Trollhammaren Finsterforst - Mach Dich Frei Feuerschwanz - Ding (you wanted more German hip hop, so why not kill two birds with one song. This is a folk metal cover of a hip hop song.)

Eluveitie in a nutshell "So what instruments do you guys use in your songs?" "Yes" Eluveitie has pretty much the largest repertoire of instruments used of any band save for maybe one or two, and actual orchestras. You name it, they likely have it in their songs.

@Galatorn
@Galatorn 4 жыл бұрын
I was thinking Haggard as well. Too bad Alex got the letter H already by now. Haggard work together with a 15 - 20 head counting orchestra live on stage, while the main band plays gothic metal basically. Really worth checking them out, Alex !

@@Galatorn Besides Haggard there is In Extremo, Feuerschwanz, Saltatio Mortis, Schandmaul or Fiddlers Green. At Folk Rock it is prety normal to use more instruments then in classic heavy metal. Eluveitie is just a normal Folk Metal Band.

"Never seen someone look so badass playing the bagpipes" Hurdy Gurdy, Bagpipes, Violin/related instruments, harps, celtic drums, Eluveitie has* a fantastically unique sound on account of all the various things they use, I'm sure I missed some, too. Their second most recent album, Evocations II Pantheon is all more folk music than rock or metal (Epona, Nantosvelta, Catvrix, the whole album front to back is amazing) is a fine example of what they can do as far as range, when compared against songs like King, Inis Mona, Rebirth, and so so many more! Once the ABCs are done, you should absolutely listen to more from them. Edit: Meant to say has, not had.

Inis Mona is actually called Ynys Môn in Welsh and is a large Island on the north west of Wales which is known as Anglesey in English. It is also known for having one of the longest village names in the UK. The village is known as llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch and St. Patrick also built a church there in 440AD after being shipwrecked there for a few years.

The main melody is inspired by a traditional folk Breton song ( ouest part of France that use to be a country before being united), the song is called "Tri martolod" meaning three sailors. Its the story of 3 young sailor going at sea. The song is traditional probably from the XIXth century but was popularized in France by Alan Stivell in the 1970 with the birth of the folk Breton/Celtic wave in France. the song is in Breton language but might be interesting to give it a try once. hope ppl who read this comment learned something and might get interested with Breton folk traditional music .

I don't know if anybody mentioned It yet, but FYI the instrumental tune is taken from a traditional 18th century folk song from Brittany, a Celtic culture region of northern France. It's called "Tri Martolod" ("three sailors" in Breton language). The most famous rendition/arrangement was recorded in 1970 by Breton harpist and singer Alan Stivell.

The chorus of this song is actually taken from an old celtic folk song named "Tri Martolod". It was made famous by french folk musician Alan Stivell. There is also a hip hop version named "La Tribu de Dana" recorded by the french band Manau.

If you're not crazy about the vocals then you have to check out Eluveitie's Call of The Mountain. Whole song is sung by the girl playing the Hurdy Gurdy. Great song! This band is awesome live! Seen them with this line up and seen them with a new line up. 3 members left the band a few years ago and formed a new band, Cellar Darling. If you ever get a chance to see Eluveitie live, Don't miss it! 😁 Also the song Rebirth is a great one with the new line up.

That instrument with the crank is call a Hurdy Gurdy, and it's a medieval instrument created in the 10th Century. The Hurdy Gurdy produces it sound by cranking a wheel the rubs against the strings similar to what the bow makes on a violin. What makes the Hurdy Gurdy uneque is that it's design makes it sound like a cross between a Fiddle/Violin and a Bagpipe, do to drone strings that can produce a continuous, non stop droning tones.

@@Werewolf914 I've been a huge FG fan for years, and always want to expand them to others. The reason why I suggest sugar as the first song is I think it captures the direction that the band is taking shape and going forward with production wise with Paoli back at the mouth piece again. Not saying its too clean, I just think it would be an easier track for a first timer to digest before unleashing the double blast madness that alot of OG Fleshgod songs tend to be. The Violation I feel is one that is going to get picked due to the amount of reaction videos and suggestions here. Epilogue is up there in my favs, including Minotaur, The Betrayal, and the Vulture Beholds. Of course Thru the scars hurts my legs just thinking about it lol.

@Bonk Daddy You're right I guess it does make more sense to introduce everyone to the new style going forward instead of the old style, Sugar is amazing too, I also love The Day We'll Be Gone, Cold As Perfection, The Forsaking,etc.

A little trivia for you: Chrigel, the vocalist and mastermind behind Eluveitie, is the only one from that video that is still in the band. Anna (hurdy gurdy), Merlin (drums) and Ivo (rhythm guitar) have their own band now - Cellar Darling - which is really good, you should definitely react to them too.
