Eluveitie aus der Schweiz sind auf vielen Ebenen ein Phänomen. So sind sie unter anderem die erste Band, die in ihrer Musik melodischen Death Metal mit keltischer Folkmusik verbindet.
Und das machen sie auf mittlerweile sechs Alben meisterhaft - hier trifft die Double Bass Drum auf die Drehleier und die Tin Whistle auf brutal groovende E-Gitarrenriffs. Das Erstaunliche an dieser Mischung: Sie klingt bei Eluveitie völlig selbstverständlich.
Chrigel Glanzmann gründet die Band 2002 in Winterthur zunächst als reines Studioprojekt. Der Bandname entstammt einer Inschrift auf einer antiken Tonscherbe aus dem italienischen Mantua, auf der das etruskische Wort "eluveitie" zu lesen ist, was die Entsprechung des keltischen Wortes "Helvetios", also "der Helvetier", ist. Die Texte der Band handeln vom keltischen Stamm der Helvetier und sind teilweise in helvetischem Gallisch verfasst. Wer nun denkt "Achtung, Nerd-Alarm!", der liegt völlig falsch, denn die Band kommt von Anfang an so gut an, dass Chrigel und seine Mitstreiter auch live performen wollen.
Mit teilweise neun Musikern auf der Bühne und Instrumenten wie Sackpfeife, diversen Whistles, Geige, Drehleier usw. erobern Eluveitie die Pagan Metal-Welt. 2010 gewinnt die Band den Metal Hammer Award als Aufsteiger des Jahres beim Wacken Festival, und mit ihrem 2014er-Werk "Origins" entern die Musiker und Musikerinnen um Frontmann Chrigel sogar die Spitze der schweizerischen Albumcharts. Im selben Jahr gewinnen sie als erste Metalband den Swiss Music Award als bester Live-Act. Eluveitie sind trotz zahlreicher interner Krisen und Besetzungswechsel nach wie vor Kritikerlieblinge und eine sehr beliebte Liveband.

Well, smoking and singing doesn't really combine very well. If you sing gutural it is even worse. The voice can't really regenerate. You can see that in the interviews over the years. His voice gets more and more fucked.

Why are there people at 4:43 being carried toward people in yellow shirts? I assume that these people have passed out (alcohol, dehydration, heat stroke, mush pit accident) and they are being carried toward the guys in yellow who are the medical crew. I've been to metal shows before, but they were all at small venues (for 200ish people), nothing as big and crazy as this. The guy at 5:32 looks like he got knocked out.
