I have been fighting for so long to make my family and friends understand what I feel when that smell turns up on my plates. Finally, there's an explanation for it !

That smell is what Jamaicans call ‘raw’. I smell it and taste it in some meat dishes, but I can never describe it to non-Jamaicans. That’s one of the reasons why we wash our meats, especially chicken, in lemon juice and vinegar. That smell/taste is especially evident on leftover chicken if it’s not washed. I find that quiches and some very eggy foods make me nauseous, because of the ‘rawness’. The smell stays on utensils if they’re not properly washed.

Great video and something I’ve thought about as well! We have a word for it in Vietnamese - “tanh”. I grew up around vegetarians who are very sensitive to this, so I learned to be as well. However, I’ve noticed that non-vegetarian Vietnamese are not as sensitive and English speakers virtually unaware of something being “tanh”!

Wouldn't 3.5/5 be closer to what you would expect if they were guessing at random? 0.5/5 is very close to being perfectly wrong.
