Whenever Atreus is in immediate danger Kratos stops holding back, he did it against Magni & Modi, instantly executing Magni with minimal effort when Atreus was in trouble. 6:31 he could easily level this entire building with one punch, "building focus" refers to him pulling his punches and keeping composure, despite being as strong as he is. He is stronger than ever, he chooses not to show it because he doesn't want conflict, he wasn't going to kill Magni until Atreus put himself in danger, he even met Modi walk away.

I think he appears weaker because holding back is harder than letting it all out. His strength is driven by his rage. He’s incredibly strong at base but when he’s mad it’s ridiculous. He’s lived his life fueled by his emotions and now trying to suppress all that takes a physical toll on him.
@brandenmarcum430 Жыл бұрын
Exactly. Being too stressed can make you sick, weaken your immune system and your brain. That in turn creates a domino effect that can take a physical toll on your muscles. Kratos suppressing himself, trying to live the life of a man, brings him closer to the physiology of a human. The more he lets his rage loose, let’s his true self loose, the closer to his younger self he becomes.

imagine if Kratos didn't hold back his emotions. on his Journey Kratos must have hit, yelled at and scolded Atreus. this is something Kratos is afraid of, because he doesn't want to hurt Atreus, and doesn't want Atreus to become the monster like was once before. Kratos is very grateful to have Atreus and Laufey/Faye, because they make Kratos more human.

I think Kratos' fights with Thor show how helping clear his inner turmoil helped improve his strength. In his first fight at the start of Ragnarok he pretty clearly loses the fight, and he is originally destined to lose his second fight with Thor. I think the difference is that in Greek era, his rage made him the god slayer he was, but in Norse era, he did'nt need the rage, but was more calculating warrior. That's maybe why he was a little weaker, because he setteled down, and let go of his rage, but stayed as calculating warrior

Valid point, my friend!
@gregorysmith1402 Жыл бұрын
This actually makes sense! Atreus was sick because he was unaware of his true nature as a god being a god thinking he’s a human made him sick and weak. Kratos internally fighting rage and bloodlust is combating with his exact nature as a god that his power derives from. Which is why the devs of the game say Kratos is actually stronger being that gods get stronger the older they get but Kratos battling with himself within is making him seem weaker. I also agree with the analogy of him holding back as well more so in god of war 2018 because it was more so about training Atreus if Kratos went all out Atreus wouldn’t get the training he needs. But there were little key things in ragnarok that i noticed! Like in 2018 GOW he flipped Tyr’s temple! Then In ragnarok i was like why does it seem like it takes so much effort to lift certain things or rip down a wooden fence with the blades.

I really love how this shows the evolution of how Karatos copes with grief. In the older games, he is angered and violent. To put simple, I think he just doesn’t want to be known as a God Killing monster, to be more than just a monster. In his own words, to be better. He never grew tired in the past, because his rage kept driving him forward. He’s older and wiser now, he knows when and where he needs to battle or turn away, how to hold back to avoid senseless killing. He’s not as brutal as he used to be, he was far worse in past games. Now it’s more like he’s quick and efficient, applying power where it’s needed.
@jayceazar147610 ай бұрын
Physically he is stronger. But his spirit is in conflict. He is not "tired" physically...he is exhausted emotionally and spiritually. Its like a deep depression that keeps you bedridden. Good video. I think the old man story that he starts telling to Atreus is supposed to illustrate his mental fatigue and his being worn down by all this conflict and violence, hence his calling for death. After the final fight the ending of that story is changed as Kratos has found new purpose. He seems weaker merely because of his restraint and like you said he's haunted by his past atrocities. He isn't any physically weaker but throughout 2018 and most of Ragnarok he is 'mentally tired'. Like you said.

My theory is that he was passed the mantle of God of War when Ares was killed. So perhaps as long as he is in enraged in combat and not holding back, hence fufilling his moniker, he will continue to be at maximum strength. But, during times of peace or possessing an inner calm, he gets weaker since he is "cutting himself off" from the depths of his strength. I know Kratos is naturally strong being a demi-god and all even before becoming God of War, but perhaps obtaining the mantle pushed him further over the strength and power scale and maybe he's reverting back to his regular demi-god strength he always had, minus the "God of War" power boost, Plus, dude is just plain ol' getting old

His great strength lies behind his rage, when he fights he tries so hard not to go there which is exhausting in itself. He lost his wife and kids because of his rage and a whole realm paid for it, he doesn’t want to go down that rabbit hole again.

I think whenever Atreus is in danger Kratos doesn't hold back and his son being in danger is what triggers him to use his true strength as a god of war too. He wants to do everything he can to keep his son safe from harm no matter what enemies come their way. I find it very admirable that Kratos wants to protect Atreus that way and it seems like Atreus wants to protect his father from getting hurt or in danger in the same way Kratos protects him. The bond between Kratos and Atreus as father and son is pretty much unbreakable and it's the center of both God Of War 2018 and God of War Ragnarok. The stories are amazing! Nice job with the video too!

Something that people fail to understand is that kratos was only able to kill Greece because of his immense rage he felt to avenge his family.but he doesn't have such anger anymore as he is now more calm and also cooler.That is why he seems to be getting weaker
@transcendentsacredcourage Жыл бұрын
False. Kratos can tap into that rage at any time.

base old kratos is canonically stronger, physically, sure not magically, but physically he is significantly stronger. theres no argument here, this is confirmed in dev interviews and books. greek gods also gain strength with age, connect the dots, stop using your opinion as objective fact.

Kratos is now stronger than ever he's just holding back because he doesn't want to go back to be the person he was back then which ended the entire pantheon so obviously he is stronger now he even told that himself when odin came to visit kratos in svartalfheim "Kratos said return my son or you meet the god i once was '' so this line alone is enough for us to know that he's holding back the entire game both in 4 and ragnarok he made norse gods look weak (Thor ,Heimdal and even Odin Too ) He beated all of them without even trying '' Just like thor said this lesser version of you '' That lesser version of him is even stronger than the entire norse pantheon sooo
@SvenGbandi-em5ys Жыл бұрын
Kratos is not getting weaker from age, but rather from the strain of holding back. If anything, Kratos is getting stronger and stronger as he gets older. It's not really something to be concerned about because it's him learning to become more Human again as time goes on while also growing as a god. Ares knew that Kratos is at his strongest when he is angry and Kratos has an extremely nasty temper, a temper that never goes away but with age and experience he's more restrained. it's apparent that the Greek Gods were far worse than the Norse as only Heimdall managed to fully bring out the old Kratos, something many of the other Norse Gods failed to completely do so. While the Greek Gods were both more callous and Kratos far more temperamental, making it extremely easy for Kratos to snap and brutally murder them.

Kratos told his son he couldn't physically win a lot of the fights without him, Key words. Kratos had the power of the Olympians, and that, too, was also lost. He could do a Superman leap over mountains. Now, only Thor could do it while Kratos could only hang on. His loss of the Olympians' powers forced him to rely on his fighting skills more. The creator said old Kratos is stronger. Maybe in different ways but definitely not more powerful than Kratos and the Olympians powers he once had. Dude killed all the God's of Olympus and titans in one night. Later in the distant future fights Baldur and comes out of it almost completely destroyed.

For me Kratos had become wiser with age, not letting himself be carried away by anger, I speak from experience, when I was young I had a lot of trouble dealing with my anger, with age I will not say that I became wise, because that did not happen , but she does not have as much power over me as she used to , but every day is like fighting an addiction always filling my cup every time , And fighting the monster inside is exhausting , always demanding to take control .

This is so spot on. I know exactly how exhausting it can be to try and restrain oneself. Kratos is doing everything in the last 2 games with weights that can be heavy even for a god. If you want an actual take that is super concise without bullshit plot armor… A take that actually follows the plot as it is fully directed.. I’m gonna break it down here in a way that even the developer cannot justify. Nobody can. Therefore, it completely invalidates the continuation and basis of how Kratos would even have any power at all anymore. And it’s completely from the material. No headcanon. Listed in order from ragnarok basis backwards through the original trilogy. - Kratos verifies with mimir that he lost all original power from his homeland, meaning all connection/all power sourced from Greece. Any additional power he had gained in entirety. Imagine a keystone. If a foundation loses it’s keystone, it loses all additional backing besides solely it’s own durability underneath all the weight. - This 100% verifies that Kratos is nothing more then a demi-god, solely by his genetic birth to zeus as a child of “god”, meaning he only retains the internal power of half a god. Again, demi-god. He was not born to Olympus. He was born to a mortal woman. This whole connotation of him being a full fledged god is completely lost in translation. It is not the same backdrop as Hercules, actually the opposite to where Kratos could never naturally achieve godhood anyway. Because he is not a full blood god to begin with. This is why Kratos is physically gifted, yet not supernaturally gifted. As each fullblood god has an actual supernatural talent. - Kratos states he lost all weapons/left them behind/they lost their power, same as his gained internal power; his weapons being legit 50% of his power basis due to the enchantments and souls contained within. Again, this confirms he has no additional power basis but solely being a demi-god. Anything external is completely invalidated. - Kratos was never the actual god of war as stated in first remark, he’s a demi-god who was granted half the superficial power of a god originally by ares; thus making him a full god. Upon killing ares, he is granted the full power of god of war as it’s next chosen conduit. By right of combat/claim. - Yet In gow 2, zeus strips him of this power entirely. He never regains the power of the god of war. At all. Lmao. Therefore, even after gow 2, Kratos is solely a demi-god by all internal means. He never fully regains the power nor title of the “god of war” and it is solely self pro-claimed by himself after that. Again, it’s more of a claim to right by being undefeated/combat. Not an actual power nor title he has any longer. - In gow 3, the only reason Kratos is even able to match power with the gods is due to the power of hope/the sword of Zeus. He never at any point has the power of the god of war, solely the power of humanity. Which at the end of the game, he impales himself releasing all and gained power to the world anyway. Any power he would have, no matter what power you try and source to say, he loses it all in that moment it shoots into the sky regardless. - So, re-cap. Kratos is nothing more then a demi-god, who never even actually had the power of the god of war after gow 2. He lost it. At the end of 3, he himself releases all of his gained power. - So a literal three times over, Kratos is confirmed nothing but a “powerless” demi-god after gow 2 and gow 3. It’s his weapons and the power of faith, that allow him to tap into his half power as a demi-god. Which is nothing more then physical enhancement as shown by the purely physical feats aside of his weaponry. Casual demi-god concept. No supernatural abilities, yet physically gifted. - It makes completely no sense that Kratos would be able to get any stronger, if anything, he would be weaker then he was when he had the power of the god of war. You read that right, Kratos was actually stronger in gow 1/2 opposed to 3. - Kratos as a Greek half demi-god, his aging buff is clearly rebuffed/reduced due to the direct show that he struggles to regenerate/as well as sum up the strength that some people believe he’s gained. - Lastly, the feats of any of the two games in continuation are entirely bullshit. Simply because of this layout here. It makes absolutely zero sense that Kratos as a demi-god with no external power basis any longer would even be capable of trumping his original feats when he had the actual full power of a god. He wouldn’t even be able to contest a single god. He has literally nothing that would allow him to even stand at that level of power to do so. - All in all, the developers shipped it knowing it made no sense to a real fan who scoured and deep dove the lore of the original trilogy. It truly should’ve been entitled a re-cast of character or with an edited ending of 3. Because again makes absolutely zero sense that Kratos isn’t way weaker then prior. None of his asgardian weapons grant him additional power basis, opposed to solely being weapons capable of inflicting damage on the land’s kin/gods. - If you refute it after seeing it layed out as is, that’s just you supporting the devs and enjoying the game for the fandom. Not for the character actually making sense. And there is a large difference. “Holding back” is the exact copout they wanted people to drive in defense of the obviously ridiculous plot. But again, there’s no way to back that when holding back wouldn’t even matter anyway. Even if he held back, he would undeniably be getting his ass beat even worse then it seems in the cinematic content. He should be dead in the first fight with baldur. He shouldn’t even be able to contest anything more then the land’s fodder.

If this was true then he wouldn't be able to use the blades of Chaos or they would lose effect and not return to him. I believe you are on to something than the other Kratos simps saying he is OP. I believe that yes he is still a Greek God but his strength is now different. Unlike the previous games he doesn't rely on OP weapons and power ups as he has now honed his own strength with time which makes sense of what the Balrog said of Norse Kratos being stronger than Greek Kratos as the Greek version relied on items and using them in abundance to gain the advantage vs the Greek Pantheon. It wasn't his strength in normal means. Why he struggles in this game is very simple. The Norse God's are more stronger forces of nature than the Greek. The Norse have fought literal incarnations of primordial beings compared to the Greeks fighting the titans. The closes Titan to accomplish a feat of killing a primordial being like Odin did was Kronos. Along with him being rusty at the start. Kratos in Ragnarok gets the upper hand by getting new items though so there's also that fact
