You followed by Shintaro are the american judo culture, in my opinion, you both are basically the people giving judo the biggest fighting chance to grow in this country

Cool, wouldn't want you to get into trouble. This channels been a god send. I doubt you remember me but you're channel has helped me so much. I redoubled my efforts with my PT and now recovered from my disk injury. Not completely 100% pain free but enough that i can train full contact and spar again in BJJ. I also started Judo at a local club and I'm Competing in a BJJ competition in just under two weeks. Really appreciate all you do with this channel.

These break down videos are amazing thank you! Something on Fonseca would be great. Great ashi waza and also many dropped techniques for such a big dude.

Abe’s footwork was pivotal to move quickly towards that griplock at around 2 seconds.

The Kimura trap, as known in BJJ

The breakdown of Abe's technique is good, but I disagree with the conclusion. The best from this kimura grip in Judo is Hamada Shori who submitted Kayla Harrison and many others from this position. She used to do the move quickly like this, but against an elite newaza player like Harrison it cost her their 1st match. IfSince then Hamada uses kuzushi extensively to threaten turns and only goes for the kimura grip once she realises that her opponents are unable to defend against it. That's how she submitted Kayla. The 2 Hamada-Harrison matches are here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bHSciaNnqKprhNE If Abe's opponent had closed her elbow and rotated laterally away like Kayla did in similar situations, Abe would have been the one left unbalanced.

Excuse me you can't compare contests Hamada- Harrison with this action in the lighter weight. Everything is much faster here and Harrison has more time for defence. Really only hypotetically: I think if Harrison had 52 kilos and she have to go against Abe, the result would was same as here because Abe did it really amazing. And I would like underline: Abe did it against very good and strong opponent AT 8.MIN in semifinale of the world champions!

@@judojudo3808 Yes, the girls at under 52 can move more quickly, but I feel blue lost because she defended poorly by moving to an unathletic position and just attempting to be a dead weight on the end of Abe's arms. The next Hamada video I make is going to look at how Tsukasa Yoshida (under 57 kilos) escaped a kimura / ude garami attack from turtle and why reaching for the grip with 2 hands and your head forward like Abe and most others do makes you vulnerable to counters from people with good defense and why some of the transitional grips Hamada and Mami Umeki use before grabbing the arm with 2 hands eliminates the risk of being countered.

@@judojudo3808 I've posted a video going over Abe's newaza style changes over time. At 6:12 in this video you can see Chelsie Giles counter Abe's attempt of this technique by using a cartwheel. It was at the same event as the Kelmendi match. Abe's changed her technique slightly since that event. She now presses into her opponent's once she takes the grip. If they don't resist, she pushes them backward, if they push back into her, she rolls them. The video is here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/g5vRm2iGp8qAirc

@@non-stopnewaza9266 I saw this sequence from your video. It is ok you give example of the same category (I had problem with comparing very different categories). Yes you have true that Chelsie Giles defences this situation as you write (by the way: she and Giuffrida Odette behaved the same in similars situations agaist Abe Uta today too). But situation from your video (Abe-Giles) is at 3.min contest but situation here is at 8.min contest. And it is big difference!

they are both at the highest level. so often the player, making the first mistake, will loose. and maybe she will become olympic champion this year. she is just 21 years old
