I agree with you about the peace one finds in the woods. I lived with the woods all around me and 2 years ago an electrical fire in the middle of the night took it all after 38 years. After one winter in town in an apartment , not able to even find the stars, I bought a 1964 camper, put it up on the ole homestead as I had to start trying to tip down what was left … but by bit, I’m working at it. I’m 65 and everyone’s too busy to help and companies wanted $15000 to tear down what was left charred and erect. So… I’ll plug away at it BUT best part I’m STILL here, living full time in my little camper, with my dig and tend to the yard and my gardens and my hens. I sit out and watch the stars ♥️ No street lights, just black sky , coywolves howling down back in the woods, and I’m HOME ♥️ - just don’t wanna leave here. The land is as much HOME as the house was. And the rain on the metal roof 🙏🙏🙏🙏🤗🥰

Hope for the best, but *PREPARE* for the worse is a damned good philosophy! Decades ago, I and a GF spent two weeks in the Sierra Nevada Mtns. of Central CA. Our first night, we arrived at the campsite very late, but after setting up our tent, while she was getting ready to retire, I stayed up, setting overhead tarps for the tent, our fire pit, and the nearby table. Then I dug a trench/drain-line around our tent and away (downhill). She kept harping on me to just come to bed, and I just kept going till I was satisfied. Next day, the Heaven's opened-up, and we had downpours/wind/hail/thunderstorms, for the next four days! Then, she understood the importance of proper set-up, and we had a wonderful time! Lovely video, GREAT Tempest-Watching, and very happy you were able to record it and then share it with us! :-D

Climbing for 3 hours with that huge backpack, managing to build a fire, and cooking fantastic meals in freezing temps are just a few of the obstacles you overcame, all while filming. Honorable mention goes to your tarp placement, which was perfect and amazingly allowed you to sit outside your tent in the driving rain. Therefore, I hereby annoint you "King of Tarps." @@philiphjelsand5167Totally agree, there was no point in that fire, he got soaked through collecting wood, he couldn’t build it close enough to the tent because of the wind, he couldn’t use it to dry off because he had to keep his waterproofs on and he didn’t need it for cooking, I think it was just for the purposes of film content. I would have took off my wet stuff in the tent then got in my sleeping bag and watched a film on my IPad. Would have made a short and dull video though.

I found a cave on my property about 15 years ago. The entrance is about 5X5 feet but inside it about 20X30 X12 feet tall. I love camping in it during storms. If we get Tornado warning my wife comes with and we ride out the severe weather together. We've had two Tornados in that time one passed close enough we could see it and all the crap flying around, it was awesome. I've built a queen size bed, tables and chairs, end tables. a large fireplace and other creature comforts in the cave. It's out home away from home in bad weather. You should have gone the extra mile and fried up some hash browns.

CONGRATS young man, I just turned 71 yrs a couple of weeks ago and after raising 3 children on my own , they're grown and have children of their own, so I never was able to follow my dreams ,esp of my love for hiking and camping out, after moving to UTAH from LOUISIANA & TEXAS I taught us 4 hiking and camping in these wonderful mountains in Northern UTAH, just N of the SLC,UT airport, anyhow I always promised myself that once my kids were grown and on their own I would get a motor bike and travel to MONTANA & into ALASKA, and travel ,hiking, camping etc, but developed the big C years ago and that kept me down , so I only do my traveling, hiking ,camping and build a great campfire [ i love this] and loved cooking over a great fire outdoors ,then after dinner I'd make HOT COCOA w/ MARSHMALLOWS & ROLOS AND POPPED POPCORN OVER THE CAMPFIRE AND ME AND THE KIDS JUST HAD OUR GRAND OLE TIME, SORRY WAS REMEMBERING ABIT, ANYHOW MY TRAVELS OUTDOORS UP IN THE MOUNTAINS IS THROUGH VIDEOS AND I LOVED YOURS SO MUCH I SUBSCRIBED AND GAVE A BIG LIKE, BUT IN MY HEART I GIVEBYOU A MIL LIKES. Abel, just found your channel today and every comment I was going to make has already been made by everyone else. It was the BEST FOUL WEATHER camping video I've seen to date! ! ! Good on ya mate for hanging in there and braving the elements. I'm considering doing some Overlanding camping trips now that my wife has passed. They should be a lot easier then my 20+ years of military 'camping'. LOL 70yo, Seattle, Washington USA. Thanks for taking us all along with you.

Loved the video. Had strong rainstorm here this evening which brought alot of flooding. People needing rescued from houses and cars. About this time last week an f2 tornado sat down close by where I live. Looks like we're in for an interesting spring/summer, lol. If I were you and plan on continuing in heavy rainy weather I believe I'd invest in a raincoat lol. Loved the video. Tyfs God bless you

I grew up in North Dakota close to Canada. Camping in the snow (dry) was always easier than wet and cold, these conditions are challenging to say the least. Hats off to you sir! Thank you for all your work filming and editing, plus excellent narrating. Cheers!

I was on a 12 day canoe trip and it rained every damn day. Still remember it vividly, as we had 250 lb 8 person canoes to carry as well. At 17 years old, it was life altering. We planned the trip ourselves, bought and packed the food ourselves. We had one canoe with teachers, but they stood by and were just observing and there for safety. If you got lost with bad navigation, they let you lol. They purposely put guys in same canoes that did NOT get along. This was in the vast park of Quetico in Northern Canada. It was called Outers and you attained 1 credit as long as you did 40 hrs community work as well. There was fall trips, winter camping/snowshoeing , and an all overnight navigating snowshoeing trip.

In Africa my then husband worked in tsetse control and was based in the zambezi valley, 2.5 weeks out of every month was spent under canvas, cooking was over a fire, to bake l would have a hole dug in the ground, a fire in the hole until burnt down ashes,, dig the ashes out and pop in a cast iron pot with whatever l was baking (a delicious way to bake bread but l also did cakes) bathing was done in a zinc bath with water drawn from the nearest water hole and heated in a half of a 44 gal drum also, being the zambezi valley and in Africa there was of course wild animals, then l thought it quite a hard life but it was all about the type of work my husband did and now, at 80 years old l realise just how fortunate and blessed l was to have been able to live that life for over 7 years, thank you for re_awakening my memories

That reminded me of when me and my mum went camping overnight, we were jump judges at a cross country horse event, it was too far away to get their early the next morning, so we camped overnight. It a hot barmy June afternoon when we set out, by the time we got there a storm had blown in, absolute deluge and high winds. So we stripped off down to our underwear to pitch the tent, because we didn't have spare clothes. We also had to batten the tent down with an extra tarp over the top to keep the tent from being blown flat. The storm settled down and we all had a great evening, went to bed about 10pm, it got really cold in the night and when we got up in the morning there was a good 10 inches of snow. So that was that for the cross country event, they canceled it. We then had to wait until late afternoon for the snow to melt so we could pack up, get out of the field and go home. Happy days.. 🤣

Been there done that, in November 2019 on the south coast of England, there was a massive storm coming in from the English Channel while on a tour of the coastal areas. I had fun trying to put up a poncho so I could eat, thank god I had my tent up before the main storm hit me..

I simulated the conditions you experienced by pitching a tent in my bath and leaving the shower running.The wind noise was created by my cordless vacuum on turbo setting.Unfortunately i forgot to remove the plug from the bath and woke early in the morning to the sight of a plastic duck bobbing up and down relentlessy,gaining my attention.Also my sleeping bag was soaked accidentally by a carelessly discarded bottle of bubble bath and resembled a giant ice cream cone.

Nice to see someone else battling the elements ! I have yet to find a tent that is completely waterproof by itself. With that, if starting to rain I rig a large tarp over the tent site then set up tent. My tarp size is big enough that it completely covers the tent area and a few feet past its footprint . This so you can have a dry apron to hang out. Even with a full coverage rainfly on my old 'built like a tank' NF VE-24 a tarp gives that xtra added comfort level. The important thing is to know how to rig it so a line or corner wont cut loose in high winds / rain
@asuraphreak
@asuraphreak 9 ай бұрын
No tent will be waterproof. The floor is possible and essentially standard with tent that have floors, but the tops are made cheap and often have mesh with crappy rainflies. Tarp are a must in practically every tenting situation when heavy rain is potential.
