As you passed the aberdeen harbour expansion the grassy mounds with vents were the city landfill site. Vents are to prevent the build up of noxious gases from the mixed waste buried there.👍🏼

You're absolutely right about those small light house structures. They're the leading lights for the harbour and help guide ships in the channel. One is green and one is red which corresponds to the port and starboard lights on ships. Also, the "air traffic control" style building is the Marine Operations Centre which houses the Vessel Traffic Services for the harbour.
@iand5369
@iand5369 2 жыл бұрын
Right by one of the leading light houses was Ferry Road which at the bottom of the street was the crossing to Footdee, I was raised there as a small child before moving to the more modern suburbs of Mastrick lol

Thank you so much for these 2 videos highlighting my mother's hometown, Aberdeen! Wonderful! The beach is absolutely beautiful, as well as the coastline! I agree with your comments about people littering - nasty. Being a railfan, I'd definitely appreciate the views of the railway on parts of the trail. 8 out of 10 is very respectable. Finally, I'm so glad you found a bus!!

Lovely, you're right it is a stunning coastline, just very diffeent from tne West coast. I followed Chris Walks the UK, then James walking for MIND on FB & saw all that, harsh & midgey too! Trying to inspire a friends son to do vlogging, sent him parts 1 & 2 as it starts with a footie stadium, that'll appeal to him! Thanks for another great vid.

Great tae see ya back match fit fella, pretty sure the guy getting filmed at the start was chef Ainsley Harriott. The littering anywhere really grinds my gears, lost count seeing people eat on a train too then just get up and get off leaving behind cups and bags or wrappers etc, much be such a hassle for them to put in that nearby bin. Thanks again fella.

I may be wrong but I think the grassy mound with the vents is a former municipal tip and the vents are there to release methane and other gases generated from the rotting decay underneath.

they sometimes have them that burn off the gasses, lots of little stacks all burning off gas

We have that setup in the States as well; former landfills are contoured over, and there are venting pipes to prevent the buildup of gases. Less explosive than a fuel stockpile, but explosive nonetheless.

What an enjoyable brisk walk down the Aberdeen Coastal path Part 2. Sorry to hear you have been unwell Steve, I’m struggling to recover from covid since 1st Jan. I could do with some of that Scottish fresh air myself! this is indeed a very wild and rugged Coast “An Unsung Coast” great description! why do some people insist on defiling a beautiful planet by leaving their rubbish!! thanks 🙏 again Steve for another fabulous dramatic video, I’m with you 8out10, I’m off to the kitchen now to make a pathetic bacon 🥓 roll, can’t compete with that gigantic breakfast in a bun it looked delicious 😋 take care and get well soon, we can’t do without our intrepid ‘Braveheart’ and your sidekick Alicja, 😊🤗👋

Haha Steve, where did you hear about fuel tanks under the mound at Tullos Hill? At the top it is Tullos woods, or the farting woods. Although there is not many trees up there. The mound was a rubbish tip for Aberdeen & beyond. What happens to built up rubbish over decades, it starts farting, all those horrible gases polluting the air, something needed done, and what you see today with the vents is the result.

Unsung coast indeed - so beautiful! How about getting a bike? You could cover more ground. I love seeing the train tracks and trains. Another great video!

Cheers Derrick! I've got one at my Dad's place but nowhere to store one at home (without threat of it getting stolen). Will be getting one soon though when we move to Montrose!

A new video 😃 been looking forward to it mate! Seems the weather has held up and is dry. You know yourself up there not the best at times. It looked as if you where up near to where Altens is. Having worked offshore for years the east coast scenery, specially on the way up on the train is top notch 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

I was at the Tory battery looking for the dolphins at the harbour entrance. We saw a seagull making a determined effort to empty the bins in search of food. It succeeded in finding a burger and then promptly downed it in one. The litter therefore isn’t necessarily inconsiderate people, but actually seagulls.

Great part two of your walk considering you were under the weather, the breakfast wrap must have kept you going.

Always love the mix of natural and man made industrial landscapes, so this would be great for me... Like that nuclear power station in middle of nowhere on the way up to Edinburgh on ECML train. Take it with a pinch of salt (excuse pun), but 'celebrity' looked very much like chef Ainsley Harriot... You didn't miss much Steve - not worth a selfie imho😁.

8 out of 10? You forgot to add for the breakfast roll, that's an extra 2 surely? 😄 Fantastic! Really enjoyed this series of walks, in Aberdeen, Glasgow and in Edinburgh. East coast has always been my favourite so shush, don't tell everyone. 😁

You’re right with the light houses Stevie, they’re called leading lights , ships line them up on their approach into harbours .

Great part 2! I was looking forward to it. That was a long walk but worth it except, as you said for the industrial part. It’s a pity that isn’t moved inland. And those cliffs - I had to laugh as it wouldn’t be a Steve video if there wasn’t at least one treacherous walking experience. I was taken aback by what you said about the new harbour project for “cruise ships and renewable energy projects” which sounds to me like a real oxymoron. When cruise ships arrive the impact on the local environment is usually not positive. I hope Alicja is safe in Poland as this is a difficult time to be in that part of Europe.

A very good point Heather! Alicja is home safe - she was shocked at what home was like just now - a scary place and so many poor refugees
