The reason it changed to what it is currently was because of a stupid clerical error made by a census taker after partition. That being said, I'm a hundred percent sure that my Ancestors were Hindus. I have thought about this many times, and I feel that may be one reason for the concept of oral traditions. Also, there are very sophisticated ways of preserving the exactness of vedic recitation like ghanapatha, kramapatha etc. Maybe this was why expertise was divided into "castes" to preserve the knowledge and not dilute or misinterpret it. Lastly, they could perhaps forsee it all happening as something unavoidable, that this was predestined!

Dawoodi Bohras migrated from the middle east and settled mostly in Gujarat in large numbers and in other coastal areas in relatively small numbers hence they have DNA's matching middle eastern and Iranian people. They marry only within their community, hence, their DNA is not mixed with other DNA's. Their religious practices also differ from mainstream muslims. Not sure, but my dad gets all Y-DNA matches with Chechens from Russian Federation so I'm now researching his background. My background is Gujarati Muslim and I did my DNA ancestry test with ftDNA. I got 88% Asian of which includes Afganistan/Pakistan and Indus). 10% European (5% Greece, 2% Scandinavia, 3% East Slavic) and the rest is Middle Eastern - Anatolian, Mesopotamian, Iranian. I’m from Hyderabad I’m Telugu Hindu Idk about the rest of India but over here in Hyderabad there is a significant population of Muslim Indians who are of Iranian and Arab descent and obviously there are some local converts . There are literal neighborhoods of these people The barkas area in Hyderabad is 99 percent Muslim and it is filled with hadhrami Arab descent Muslims. And many other influential rich Muslims of Iranian and afghan descent also live here in Hyderabad Most of them came in 18th century because of nizam and they all like to live abroad in western countries. Nope. Middle eastern as well as Iranians are Anatolian rich population as far as I know. Indians are poor when it comes to Anatolian ancestry.
