Watching all these push 3 videos make me think the Force is the better choice. The force offers so much more including the incredible arranger view and touch screen. The updates for the Force have made it my DAWless choice. Also you know Akai is going to keep updating the force. I think you need to step back and rethink getting rid of the Force. I got all excited too when i saw all the features, i like the midi capture, but it doesn’t allow 3rd party plugins and i use Ableton with mostly 3rd party. My force works beautifully as an Ableton controller, and i easily round robin my projects. Naaaa I’m staying with my force. It is not second best. The thing I liked about MPC's is that you concentrate on your sequence and then can chain them together however you want to make a song. Then if you want to change a fill on say the bridge, you can do it once and then it's in every part of the song you have a bridge in. This is why I love that modular approach! And why a lot of liner DAWS like Logic and Ableton end up annoying me a bit. This Push 3 at the moment (and Push in general) can't put sequences together like that and you can't even see the arranger mode! It's a problem because I think for a machine to truly be self contained you kind of have to be able to FINNISH a song inside it. How do you do that with Push? They had an excuse when it was linked to your laptop as the idea was you jam/create on Push, finish in the laptop. But with standalone they seem to have overlooked that no one will be able to finish a track in it! Really odd... And no one seems to be talking about it. 2 grand to sketch patterns that you have to finish in your DAW anyway and no external plugins? People need to calm down lol. And the grand for an intel chip that is 25% power wise of what your MacBook Air can do for the same price? It's not exactly a big deal to plugin a super light laptop to this (new Push is much heavier than a MacBook Air). And you're gonna need it to finish anyway? I'm not convinced yet at all... I don't see any huge difference over the existing push/laptop setup for most music makers at present.

Obviously MPC and Push have different workflows and it is about whatever works for you. That being said you can absolutely finish a song in Push. Yes the Session view is made to jam and trigger clips etc. but if you actually know how to use your clips follow actions you can arrange you projects from top to bottom like a tracker and that's how you arrange your song in session view. And yes you don't see much of a difference from a push/laptop set up because it is both as standalone. I get it your an MPC user so you don't see what the big deal is but for Ableton users this is a game changer for modular set ups with out a laptop.
@VinylWave11 Жыл бұрын
@@MouthOfDeathMusic actually I started off with Push 2 and Ableton years before my first stand alone MPC. However I have MPCs to sequence modular gear. It works very well for me. @MouthOfDeathMusic Жыл бұрын
@@VinylWave11 That's cool I work with modular gear as well. I had an MPC one at one point because of the CV out puts but it didn't have clock out which was baffling. Hopefully they added that with their most recent updates. I guess its a bit odd why they wouldn't add the arrangement view but like I said you can still arrange your song top to bottom from the session view hit play and the whole song with play out. Session view can be linear or non linear I think that's where people are getting confused.

Right now I’m using the ISLA S2400 as my main sequencer and I’m also interested in the Retrokits RK 008 Sequencer. I really appreciate the old school workflow. As far as the MPC, Maschine+ and Push 3: For me it comes down to onboard sound (standalone MPE controller AND on-board MPE based sounds? Incredible.Incredibly beneficial to me as a composer)and workflow. Generally I’ll be using these type of devices to sequence external gear and internal sounds while I play over top. As such, according to Loopop, there’s no song mode or arranger mode. There’s also no arpeggiator. These are odd omissions and as such I’m going to hold off until I see this go past the early stages. I do love the sound of Maschine+ (I love FM8, Prism And Kontakt, reminds me a lot of the Synclavier sonically) but I do feel that Native Instruments has abandoned it and they really need to do a full on workstation with Komplete and Maschine as a standalone keyboard unit with insane CPU power and the ability to load third party VSTs to be taken seriously.

Ableton basically did a mic drop today in Akai's backyard. Why? Because let's be clear about this (and I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one): Literally the only reason I bought the MPC Live 2 a while ago was that Ableton did not have a device like the Push 3 on the market yet, of which I have been screaming forever. Fast forward one and a half years later and I'm still struggling with MPC's workflow. Legacy MPC heads might swear by it but the hard reality is that the current MPC platform is simply not up to snuff with today's production standards: The MPC Software is nothing short but horrible, not worthy of a DAW at all, and MPC's hardware OS is mediocre at best. So what will happen next? I will definitely get my hands on a standalone Push. Depending on the reviews over time it will be either this device or the next generation. After that, I will sell my Push 2. And if Akai in the meantime hasn't stepped up its game yet I might end up selling my MPC Live 2 as well (which is a very cool device, don't get me wrong).

Push 3 -8GB of ram. MPC X SE -48GB Micro SD Card as it's internal hard drive. Push 3-256GB gen3 M.2 NVME drive. MPC X SE-no possibility to upgrade the specs. Push 3-completely upgradable . As far as standalone products go, Push 3 is definitely a step in the right direction. Akai, take some notes.

I won’t sell my X (just yet) but I also do not get a Force (which I wanted until today). It’s not about the workflow. I know both for ever now and like each of them equally for different reasons. But the amount of innovation Ableton showed us today is what I hoped to see in the X SE and I am totally disappointed. I didn’t feel any urge to buy the X SE when it came out because I already have exactly that in the X. But the Push 3 instantly makes me want to change my whole setup to an Ableton only workflow. so they add an Intel i3 to it, which is the big reason it has such a poor battery life. ...and it's still weak-ish. I feel like they should have just gone with ARM or the Maschine+ CPU and more battery time. It IS super thin. I like that, but I'd probably have forgiven them for adding a few mm for a bigger battery. I don't think we can make Max4Live devices and use them on this? Loopop said no plugins, but maybe eventually Ableton will add this sort of thing; that'd be really cool. The big reason I got a Maschine+ was because you *can* run Reaktor on it. Agreed on competition. This device may not be for everyone, but it will only drive progress from the other companies :) I am NOT a brand loyalist. I don't care if someone uses MPC, Force, SPs, Maschine+ or Push 3. I'm happy for people to make music on whatever it is they like. I'm very cynical today, and the cynic in me says the only way people will be upgrading the CPU, RAM, SSD will be with future pricey Upgrade Kits from Ableton. They've figured out how to release a Push device to keep people spending money w/ out creating a whole new hardware controller :) Glad I didn't buy a Push 2 recently LOL...

Then I'm kind of pressed to use the MPC DAW for the most put together experience with the hardware. It's really appealing to have standalone hardware for me. 20+ years on software you want to venture down other avenues. I by no means will get one piece and use it like my swiss army recipe. Right now so it's like a push will give you Ableton's stock and max plugins? A force will give you Akai/Air plugins? Ableton I kill the effects and don't reach for 3rd party too often, but the instruments are only sampler, simpler, drumracks, and external instrument. The force will be all the same stuff I already have on the various decade MPC's. Probably still end up with both so you can be a little Ableton/MPC and then be Ableton/Ableton...either way you gotta commit to audio for any 3rd party save recalls.

yes you basically jam and tigger clips in session view and it gets recorded to the arrangement view. you can then further edit and automate it.

It took me a while to learn Ableton/DAW .I never used any Push only the Maschlne MK3. I almost pull the Trigger to buy Push 3. I will wait on the reviews. 🤔🤔✌🏽🙏🏼❤️

Thank you for the video, your stuff is great. For me this is not a competition for the MPC X SE. I have the PUSH 2 which is great for controlling Ableton Live. However, the PUSH 3 does not have anything that I want or need, I definitely do not need my PUSH to be stand alone. However, if a company puts out a standalone that can host VSTs that I use, Serum, Falcon, Diva, Zebra, Pigments, then I would definitely purchase it. I will not be purchasing PUSH 3. I also have my MPC ONE setup to be used with a battery, but I don't work on battery power too often (sometimes on the weekend), however I use my MPC X SE everyday. I have my own workflow, I currently work with field recordings, hardware synthesizers, guitars, drums and other percussion instruments, MPC X or ONE, and other samplers (Roland SP 404 MK2) and drum machines. I am sure the PUSH 3 will be great for some people; and, I am not knocking it, it just isn't what I want. I am definitely considering the new smaller Polyend Tracker Mini, to take with me on the go in a pocket. For $2000 I would be buying the ARP 2600M.

I find it also very interesting this "Out of the Computer" but still a computer concept is hitting right now. Don't sleep on Apple's release of Logic Pro for iOS. THAT also can count as an out of computer experience - AND this is happening with EXISTING Apple hardware. With both Final Cut and Logic Pro hitting iOS, you know, YOU KNOW they have some hard hitting upgrades coming. Exciting times my friend.

I’m getting rid of my force also. But I’m moving to the MPC x.

When I got into audio production, the Push 2's age was what stopped me from getting it. Now, I'm considering the controller version and holding off on the standalone option for a bit to see what future upgrade kits look like. Also, if this doesn't inspire Akai to make a Force II, I'm not sure what will.

the push 3 has no linear sequencer in standalone, funny thing is you can load inear projects from your computer and play back but you can't edit that
@carbonvibes Жыл бұрын
Good job Ave, I was interested in the PUSH 2 but something told me to wait. To me this wouldn’t be a substitute for my MPC, but an alternate instrument / companion to my Ableton software. It is nice to see another standalone unit come into play. If I get one, it probably wouldn’t happen till a year or two from now. Cool stuff nonetheless.

I hope Akai taking notes. After year of constant grinding on standalone mpcs i opened ableton just because i was bored and made 50 beats in ableton since. And lemme tell you. Graphic EQ,Clicking out complex midis,snare rolls and bunch of plugins etc. Makes difference. Rn i feel my mpcs are just kid toys for playing and making memphis type beats lol.

Native Instruments had better be taking notes, and doing some introspection right now, because Ableton, just stuffed NI into a locker and took its lunch, and Ableton is _hungry_

The replaceable processor is a game changer. Going the absolute opposite direction of the planned obsolescence that plagues tech and damn near everything else in the world.
@LotusDollaSign Жыл бұрын
that upgrade kit shit sound like a game changer to me, i always felt like products should work like that, like i wanted the mpc one over the live bc of the form factor but i really wanted that battery still, and i know there's room for it in there. i'm not fuckin wit this shit being 2K wit a damn intro version of the software and having to pay even more for the full software, that shit is nuts to me.

Great vid Mcree. Glad to see you’ve steered away from the Akai debate. The Push 3 looks cool but not cool enough for me. Sticking to my LIVE II.

_Daaaaamn_ 😮 and if the CPU isn’t as powerful to the standards of Ableton power users, you can upgrade the CPU, and the battery as well (2.5 hours? Seriously Ableton, really? ) in the future as well

Calm down your GAS 😁 Force still have a lot of PROS over Push 3: - accept "outside" sound cards via usb; - arrangement view w/ better automation; - 500x better graphical interface; - lots of pad modes; - offer some things for performance that (believe) Ableton doesn't: touchscreen, crossfader, X/Y, midi assignements, etc.. - be a DIFFERENT instrument than Live + Push 2 (that a lot of you already have); - $1000 cheaper 🤷🏻♂

Yes I agree the force is still a beast. I did order one of these tho.

For $2000 I would expect more CV gates and an XLR/TRS combo jack, at least. I wouldn't go as far to say generous on the price. The live 2 has a little more to offer on the inputs and outputs but I think the price point for the push 3 is a little much. $1699 I think would be a comparable price point. I'm sure many would disagree and that's fine. Your Pockets is your pockets. If I were to get this item, I would go with the Push controller over the standalone. I don't think the standalone components are worth $1,000 more dollars (Well, I guess it's possible depending on the type of ram and hard-drive space). However, I do like the option to upgrade your push at a later time if you so choose. That's pretty dope. I have no regrets on the MPC XSE purchase though. it's offers much more (outside of the ram hard drive, and MPE functionality). Plus I just love the MPC workflow... Ohhhhh And let's not forget. The Push 3 purchase doesn't come with Ableton live standard or suite. it comes with Ableton Live intro. So you still have to upgrade even after paying $2,000 (if you get the standalone version) from Intro to either Standard or Suite, you will have to pay an additional 300 to 550 something for additional live features (Unless you already own Live standard our Suite).

I think I see a new marketing masterpiece Ableton could really start pumping out the free and discounted packs. And I bet they have some ringers saved just for the occasion ...will "PUSH" everyone toward giving up them bananas for this thing
