In 1958, I was pregnant with twins. They died in my womb at about 5 months. When the doctor found no heartbeat (did not know I carried twins), because they couldn’t perform “an abortion) even with dead babies inside me, I had to carry them for three weeks until my body expelled them, they had already begin to decompose inside me. I could have died because of exposure of dead tissue of sepsis leaving a husband, a five year old and three year old. Honestly “How awful are our politicians.” 😡

The abortion problem is easily solved. All we have to do is harvest and freeze sperm from males, as soon as they are able to produce it, then give them all vasectomies. Sperm harvesting and vasectomies are much safer procedures than abortions, and far less dangerous than pregnancy and childbirth. With my solution, we can eliminate nearly all unwanted pregnancies. It is clearly the best solution; unless men don’t want others telling them what they can do with their own bodies.

@@Kindisbetter Thanks for mansplaining! Super helpful! 🙄However, your comment is incomplete. In the case of an ectopic pregnancy, yes, methotrexate is often used, not mifepristone. Yay for you. Feeling superior? Now, let’s get into some facts. Nearly 10% of all pregnancies will end in miscarriage, 80% of which are in the first trimester. And while an ectopic pregnancy will likely result in a miscarriage, most miscarriages occur for a number of different reasons. And mifepristone has been used by doctors for 20 years now to help women expel a miscarriage. While it is not the only method, it is one of the more accessible, effective, and safe methods. I am someone who had to undergo surgery when I miscarried, and it was awful. If I could have taken a pill and miscarried at home surrounded by my loved ones, I would have in a second. And I could explain to you the whole host of reasons mifepristone is preferable, but I don’t have time. Now, since you are so interested in facts, I recommend the paper “Medication to Manage Abortion and Miscarriage” published in the National Library of Medicine which explains in great detail how and why mifepristone is critical. I’m not sure why you felt compelled to point out that commenter was wrong. Perhaps it’s because you believe it’s perfectly ok for mifepristone to be banned, and you are certainly entitled to your terrible opinion. But the point this poster was making is not wrong. And you left that part out. We already have a crisis in this country when it comes to access to women’s health. A ban on mifepristone will indeed harm and possibly even cause death.

The answer is that it does not. By law a decision from the bench only applies to the parties before the judge. But judges have assumed the power to apply their rulings outside the case (a power they were never given), and for a federal district court judge they’ve assumed the power to apply their rulings outside their district as well. This usurpation hasn’t been challenged because politicians have been trying from the beginning to get around the limits on their power imposed by the Constitution and this is one way to do that.

Family planning is also a law and order issue because long term studies have shown that unwanted, neglected and abused children are more likely to be involved in crime as young adults. A decade or so after Roe v. Wade, there was a significant reduction in crime that was attributed to a woman's right to decide their own family planning and a reduction in unwanted children. No government has the right to tell any woman if she should or should not have a baby . That is such a personal decision. The doctors should always be allowed to do their jobs and protect the mother's health ( mental and physical) and unless you are a woman and went through these things yourself I would refrain from having an opinion or telling us you are 'pro life' because you're simply a hypocrite that likes to pretend to care about "the children".

To avoid people getting to emotionally invested in the debate (pro or con), we should talk about family planning and contraceptives. The best way to avoid abortions is to give people access to education about how to practice safe sex, how to use contraceptives and make them easily accessible (financially and legally, especially tube tying and the Plan B pill). Less unwanted pregnancies = less abortions and less kids in foster care. Also less poverty and crime. So win for everyone. Ok, can't stop myself to be emotional on the topic. To the self-proclaimed "pro-life", no one is forced to get an abortion. You are against it? Cool, don't do it. But stay the fuck out of the business of people who need it. We don't force you to abort, who are you to force someone to go through a whole pregnancy? What do you know about their circumstances? Their mental and physical health? Their family situation? Getting an abortion is not an easy decision, who are you to make other people miserable over a personal decision that has no consequence whatsoever on you?

The Woke religion where I'm what gender I believe I am today is definitely the religion that seeped into our systems and is destroying foundational human biology that's confusing the next generation into actually thinking if you were born a male you can give birth. The next generation of this country is f'ed while other nations are teaching their children actually means of survival for the future like coding while we're grooming children that there's no such thing as boys and girls. No wonder allies like France and cozying up to China and encouraging other European countries to stop following America because it's a nation in decline

You don't need to be religious to oppose abortion, you just have to be a rational being to know it's bad and must be banned 👍

@@melliott3681 your initial comment said 'those who oppose it are those who use it most'. Those stats dont prove that. Someone being of a particular religion doesnt automatically equate to them sharing every belief of that religion. The reason the majority of people who get abortions are of a particular religion is because the majority of people in the country are of a particular religion. So its just a simple case of law of averages.

I don't know, I thought it was bullshit that Bill and Piers complain about democrats playing identity politics on a subject about identity while at the same time going on and on about how women's rights are being taken away and taking up the entire time so that Porter couldn't get a word in edgewise. And if this is your first time seeing Katie Porter, go actually watch what she does. She is a talented representative and was the key person that got the CDC to cover the cost of Corona Virus testing for Americans. Like her politics or not, she gets shit done for the people cause she actually understands what's important. She isn't as worried about who plays what sport, she is more interested in trying to put money back in people's pockets and not corporate Americas.

@@llorenzo385 That's very hyperbolic. While I agree that biological sex should matter in competitive sports, saying trans people are "destroying" women's sports is ridiculous. There are very few trans people, and even fewer of them are athletes. Porter's strength is in the economy and calling out monopolies and large corporations for abusing laws and regulations. That is significantly more impactful to everyday life than worrying about a trans person's competitive edge in sports.

@@MinhVu-fl4nn : maybe not such large numbers right now, but it's growing obviously. and it only takes a very small number to suddenly dominate a number of different sports. if you were a female athlete happening to compete in this situation, would you care at all about how widespread the issue is? if you are dying from a very rare cancer, does the extreme rarity console you in any way? does it make the cancer easier to tolerate? if this trend continues, it could lead girls to stop wanting to pursue a sport they love because they know that years of hard work could be all for nothing because some guy suddenly decided he wants to compete as a woman.

@@freeforest You know what is also growing? Corporate corruption and monopoly power which is a much more present issue. The only well established "successful" trans athlete was that swimmer and even then, didn't even break any records while also facing backlash. Turns out hormones matter significantly so having some trans person who transitioned as a little kid would've negated most if not all of their biological advantage.
