Well done Dan. My first ever Ironman so have I no frame of reference but had a fabulous time and was a great event for my kids to watch me in too. Just epic support on course. Love your videos as brings it all back for me.

Strong performance, expecially given the extra weight and the lack of swim and run training. Glad you enjoyed it.

My husband saw you just before you turn right to go into town ,at the top of the hill on the swim exit,he could not take part because of a training accident on Saturday morning at 03.15am when in the dark he fell over his running shoes and re-tore his miniscus,and then was hobbling round like a good-un.he was really chuffed to see you,would of been better under different circumstances,but there you go,he sends his congratulations,because,out of four people in his hotel only one finished the race,again well done for the race,and especially to your support crew for being as badly as you,in a good way.

I love that you continued with the swim as you felt grateful. I have been poorly with viruses alot of the summer and only did 2 races. I'm 50 amd just appreciate every day I can do something. Well done on your race!

Props for getting through that swim and mentioning gratitude. I broke my collarbone on my course recce 6 weeks ago. Thought I was going to be miserable spectating but I was so inspired by the atmosphere the whole day. Awesome to watch you finish too since your 2019 video was part of what inspired me to enter

Congrats Dan, wish I could go sub 12 in an ironman. You are absolutely right about the time pressures of ironman training, I have had to give up long distances since becoming a dad this year but what I have found is a new love for the sprint distance, it may not sound as glamorous as a full distance triathlon but I have really enjoyed being able to try and get faster rather than focus heavily on endurance.

Well done Dan! Thanks for running through this. I used to think that if I fail to complete a full IM, then it would be because of a lack of endurance prep on the run, but your comments on the swim emphasize how important open water swim preparedness are (both physically and mentally)

Hi Dan, just saw your IMW race review. No doubt about it you were awesome. The weather played its part and surely you have to be happy just finishing with a swim like that. Hope to see you back next year.

Well done, Dan and thanks for posting your journey. Regarding the run, I had a similar thing happen to me in Kazakhstan and I survived on oranges, bananas and coke. I had gels I could take, but my stomach couldn't handle it. Like you said, we need something to get us through the run and it worked for me also, but a bit slower.

Excellent perceptive review and pretty much summarises everything spot on. As someone else who was targeting sub12,you SHOULD be over the moon with your performance: Chapeau. You missed out on not using the Maurten gels tho, they are first class (shame they're stupidly expensive). 'Denim Shorts Guy' (TC).

Well done, Dan! Just found your channel and now a keen follower. One query in your experience - do you think a road bike or tri bike is most popular for IM Wales? I've heard a road bike can be quite handy with all the turns etc. but unsure which type of bike you'd advise. Thx! James
@TriathlonDan Жыл бұрын
Thanks James, appreciate it! I'd always choose a TT bike for Wales, providing the gearing allows climbing and the brakes work. The course does "flow" very well, lots of climbs are approached at speed and there are lots of fast and rolling sections where TT position would be faster. I have seen people ride fast on a road bike with clip on bars though. I guess it's down to how fast you plan on riding too. In 2019 I rode 5:43 and it was 100% a TT bike day, whereas in 2022 I rode 6hrs and I'd say it was more of a toss up between road and TT bike due to the lower average speed and lighter road bike. Don't underestimate the "Can I ride this bike for most of the day comfortably" factor too. Hope that helps and good luck in Tenby!

I’ve felt like that on both my swims (both rough conditions) you just got to try and remain calm and you do settle into a rhythm eventually. But those first few hundred metres are hell 😂😂😂

How do you see your rank by discipline from the IM results? I can only see overall or age group rank but that appears to be your position within the field at the end of each discipline not your rank specific to that discipline
