@DOPYTC 1 I prefer to think of humans as the "Attrition snipers". Why? Well two of the most important traits for humans (only less important than our intelligence, which in Sci-Fi means nothing since all species are more or less as intelligent) are our extreme endurance, which gives us the ability to catch up to any other land animal that is running away from us sooner or later and survive to extreme wounds that would kill most animals (at the cost of ruining our skin thanks to our fast but not very precise regenerative ability), and our extremely good eyesight combined with the unique natural ability to throw stuff and being overall very good at guessing ballistics, something almost no other animal can do.

You kinda forgot to mention how some species don't look too well on human for their rapid expanse in galactic politics. Getting an embassy on the Citadel after just nine years of being thrusted into the larger galaxy when others had to wait like a century or so.

It's not like the Volus, Hanaar or Elcor aren't the most... Pro-active races, you know? I get the turians being pissed, but the other council races? Tbf, if someone should be hated over that, it should be the Asari. They were the first and propably formed the council and THEN gate-kept all other races that came later due to them living for so long. It is clearly a history of Asari-dominance over everyone else, though the brunt of it is carried by the humans due to their pro-active, almost invasive nature. I mean, I save the coucil every time, but I can still see that.

Classifying other species as humanoid isn't necessarily vein. Having a word that means "an appearance resembling that of a human" doesn't mean you love yourself.

This makes me think about that quote from the movie Constantine where arch-angle Gabriel says "You're handed this precious gift, right? Each one of you granted redemption from the Creator - murderers, rapists, and molesters - all of you, you just have to repent, and God takes you into His bosom. In all the worlds in all the universe, no other creature can make such a boast, save man. It's not fair.". On a more secular note I feel that human mental adaptability and diversity are pretty important. There will always be humans who's nature resonates with one of the alien races (which seem sadly predictable/monolithic for the most part) and as such CAN become acceptable to them such that humans could live in that alien culture, and in turn inject a bit of human nature into it as well (hmmm, maybe humans should be considered a sort of virus then...). Personally I think human imagination is what sets us apart. Humans have a knack for imagining impossible things, things that as far as we currently know are impossible, and yet when we focus on making them real we find a way. Kinda of like being at "A" and imagining "Z" and being able to work from both directions to eventually make it happen. This is something that I think aliens in ME should be really scared of in humans, we find the way to make the impossible, possible. But at the same time, this trait is subtle enough that most don't notice this about us.

Others have hair, but its one of those things more hidden away with development limitations. Quarian have hair but it wasn't revealed, Raloi might have hair (I forget). Andromeda may have species with hair but it seems to not include the Khet. Bioware will be more open to it as the series and technology goes on.

AgentDearestZ Sorry, by revealed, I meant in-engine. 'Tali' was a shoddily edited stock image meant to basically represent how the devs regarded the Quarians, and Synthesis was to better illustrate the concept, but neither were in-game models, and especially wasn't the norm in the game.

I mean... humans are painfully average, sure. But humans are also the most diverse. Not just in physical appearance either; in talent, skill, morality, beliefs, ambition.... you name it. Most of the other species' general population is more or less the same, with a handful of "rogues" thrown in (Aria or Garrus for an example), but humans are just that way naturally. Don't get me wrong, when it comes to the Mass Effect species, humans aren't exactly the most exciting or interesting, but looking at it objectively, we do have the advantage of being diverse and adaptable, however generally average we might be xD

Most of the squadmates (not including temporary ones like Jenkins, the DLC allies like on Omega) are non-human. However, yes, at least a strong third or up to half are human (Ashley, Kaidan, Miranda, Jacob, Zaeed, Kasumi, James). Its basically a third human, a third major species, and a third special (like Legion, EDI, Javik, Thane, so on).

I like the humans in Mass Effect. Generic enough to be believable, yet original enough to not compare them to Star Trek or Warhammer. Bioware did a good job in that area. The Illusive Ass in my opinion is even a villain in Mass Effect 2. If you realy think about it, everything he feeds you is just a bit too convenient and rubbs me the wrong way. Disclaimer: Over analyzation of Mass Effect 2 upcoming without having played the third game yet. A small turian patrol is supposed to have shut down a collector ship without damaging it? I dont think so. Yeah, the gun upgrade for the normandy is turian, but they are experimental HEAVY weapons. Nothing patrolboats would use. Just like the guardian lazer on Horizon. Those are all heavy weapons. It was very obviously a trap laid by the Illusive Man himself. He iniciated the whole situation, though the motive is questionable, since both trying to kill shepard and collecting intel on the reapers dont make sense. Speaking of Horizon. Weird that the Collectors attack exactly the sattlement where the virmire-survivor is at, right? The Illusive Man doesnt even deny having it "let slip" that they would be there, but let slip to whom? The collectors of course, but how? He may have contacts everywhere, but if he has the abillity to feed the collectors informations, why not use it for something useful other than murderous setup after setup? All of Mass Effect 2 was about the powerstruggle of Cerberus being loaded upon Shepards shoulders. It was never about saving the galaxy. It was about Cerberus getting their hands on Collector technology. Why else would they build a "human reaper"? And btw, should it even be possible to "build" a reaper in the first place? Something tells me that the whole collector-conflict was motivated by Cerberus striking a deal with the collectors for their technology and breaking it at the start of Mass Effect 2 for busynes reasons. I mean, I always said jokingly "he has Sarens eyes". But srsly: He. Has. Sarens Eyes.

Humans are really boring in a lot of science fiction. Mostly because sci-fi writers seem forget the unique traits of humans. For example our ability to sweat which gives us incredible endurance. Secondary to intelligence, the ability to sweat is one of our most important traits. It’s literally not mentioned once. And it’s not like it’s a trait that all aliens would have. Krogan and Turians have armor that would make it impossible to sweat, additionally no other species have eyebrows which are important to keep sweat out of our eyes. The only logical conclusion based on these clues is that sweating is a wholly human trait, thus is treated as if it isn’t a big deal. Because of sweat we in hot climates eventually catch up to horses, sweating is an amazing trait. For some reason the mass effect writers refuse to let humans have anything interesting traits, completely ignoring our incredible endurance.
