The fact that he put so much "performance" into this even though it was just a drum clinic and not a Korn show is amazing to me. Shows how much he loves what he does!! This was so much fun to watch!

I honestly think people are intimidated when they see this level of talent up close. They're all used to walking around all stiff and uptight, doing and saying the right thing.... they're probably pretty good drummers. Then they sit five feet from this guy and energy is just pouring out of him.... there's practically sparks coming off him. It's probably pretty overwhelming for most people.

Agreed, I attended the clinic for Michael Henry "Nicko" McBrain of Iron Maiden and its not that we don't appreciate what they are doing, as drummers we are taking it all in trying to figure out how he is doing what he is doing, playing along in our heads try not to air drum and smack the person next to us. Its a rare learning experience that we will probably only see once in our lives and we don't want to waste what they have taken the time out of their extremely busy schedule to allow us this up close and personal experience. I was 100 feet away and was not able to get this close, we had a monitor to watch though. Also what they didn't show was where he broke down specialized beats and began teaching.
@rumdog139 жыл бұрын
To respond to "that crowd was lame" comments: It was a drum clinic. Most everyone in there (myself included) were drummers and we were really paying attention to exactly what Ray was doing. It was a lesson and we were focusing on his technique and style. Were we supposed to be jumping around headbanging? This wasn't a concert, it was a tutorial. That medley was how he started the clinic, which went about an hour. Almost everything after that intro medley was him talking about style and approach to playing drums. He gave lots of good info and examples that everyone there could try on their own drums. Trust me, we were all very into it and amazed. We didn't want to miss a thing so we paid very close attention. Thus the "zombie" crowd. Idiots.

2.9M views and zero dislikes , that speaks volumes. We all know Ray is a bad ass on the drums , but what most people dont know is that he is one most of the down to earth and humble guy. Much respect.

I saw KoRn in original lineup with David but I'll never forget the moment where Ray threw the drum stick up 5 meters into the air and caught it in time to hit the cymbal for the big boom! WOW!

Plays everything perfectly and can emulate Davids sound without sounding out of place which nobody else Korn has had drumming since David has been able to accomplish

i have a new found respect for Ray after watching this. I used to think David was the man on drums and far better than Ray but... I've never seen David put that much heart into his drumming. He just kind of did it. However, Ray seems to enjoy what he does for a living and is good at it. I highly respect Ray Luzier now. Good stuff and likeable guy.

Sadly there are still a lot out there that still think like you did (mostly die hard Korn fans who aren't musicians anyway). David was a great drummer and had an original/groovy style, however Ray is a professional in every sense of the word and has taken Korn to a level David never could have achieved and this clinic video is a perfect example of that. Glad you gave Ray a chance dude! \m/

Lol this guy thinks so lowly of some of the stuff Dave played, he even adds extra fills and does stick tricks just to make it difficult. Dave sucked
@tjmcdonald28359 жыл бұрын
John Crichton I've got to agree here. Going back and listening to Korn's older stuff I can't help but think how uninspired David's drumming was. I prefer Ray over David.
@MattQuerry9 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say Davids drumming was uninspired. It was VERY creative for the time. He was just uninspired when the record label started forcing to have a more "commercial" friendly sound. Can't say i blame him. Ray enjoys drumming though.

Ray is a great player and David WAS a great player. He allowed his ability to slip away when he led a life away from music and then expected Korn to take him back as if nothing had happened and as if they hadn't found a drummer who was better in Ray. David in his prime was fantastic and he brought a jazz style of playing to metal that was unique - this is shown in their first two albums especially. They went a lot more mainstream with their next few albums after that before finally returning to the original Korn sound during the last couple of albums.

I can’t believe I’ve known about Ray this long and had no idea he was this talented! That was the one of the most incredible modern solos I’ve seen, especially coupled with a rock medley! You sir, Are deserving of all your success.

All these years later here I am commenting again.. I saw Ray at music midtown with DLR in 2002. As a percussionist- I had no clue who was supporting Roth that night and was absolutely captivated. I have been a fan of Ray ever since. Very few rock drummers play with such raw energy as Ray… he reminds me of a hyperactive Keith Moon just pounding and demanding resonance from those heads. Hope to see him again - cheers.

Thank you , I have watched this video about 10 times in a row and believe you have to be one of the best drummers in the world. When did you sell your soul to the devil? Ray used to practice in the next studio/rehearsal room to my band in L.A. (The Valley) we were in the same building but not the same league, when we took breaks at the same time and around the same table in the parking lot Ray was completely approachable and just a real nice guy...............good times
