You are talking in extremes. If the relationship is physically abusive, staying will be foolish. But not leaving an unhappy relationship immediately can be a contrast to look for a better feeling place. Similarly the man is not in a do or die situation at his job. Abraham is asking him not to quit abruptly. It never works. The next logical place for an physically abusive relationship will be leaving it but abruptly severing an unhappy one will be not the NEXT LOGICAL step.
